Other relationships subs need a lot more of this energy. Inspired by horror stories being shared here.

No, it's not 'tacky' to call out old men for their obsession with chasing much younger women.

I notice these unfunny memes everywhere on social media now since joining FDS. Would usually just scroll on without a thought but now 🤡 clown culture is hard to scroll past without the temptation to roast.

Car dealership allows men from general public to write obscene and sexual comments about female employee. You can literally be just doing your job and the LVM will gather to be disgusting.

ALWAYS leave if you ever experience any of these 'red flags'. They are predictors of future violent behaviour and are behaviours that have been precursors to fatal DV.

I had three natural pregnancies after 34 and two of them were after 35. One abortion, one stillbirth and one living child. I’m almost 44 and I’m still fertile.

I regret the abortion, but I had no choice, he was a NVM.

Finally! I want to know what crusty, old white man designated the number 35 as when women lose their fertility.

Also, this much “research” and energy needs to be redirected to educating men about how they have a biological clock as well.

One of the reasons I opted NOT to freeze my eggs is because I think it preys on women’s fears. It’s too expensive (although GET It if your employer will pay dr it!) for me and it ignores the variable of the age of father.

It’s really weird and arbitrary (35) because I know so many women who had their first babies after that. Even some “oops” babies. I’m in my 40s and on the lookout for signs of peri menopause but so far, nothing. Everything is as it’s always been.

Word on egg freezing + fears. My friends and I all get the ads for it online. Also agree if employers pay for it that's a game changer

I read that the studies on maternal age and fertility were based on French peasants in the 1700s.

Obviously we have different health standards and lifespans now.

“Expecting Better” by Emily Oster is mandatory reading for anyone who wants to have kiddos via pregnancy.

The problem is that men are less fertile than ever. Healthy sperm counts are dropping precipitously. It’s not us.

[–]AriaLuz 34 points35 points36 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men have half the sperm they did 50 years ago. Plus most of them use the death grip every night and drink so heavily which also doesn’t help their sperm. Their quality of sperm actually starts to deteriorate at age 18 might even be earlier now since they are so obsessed with porn now. By the time a man is 35-40 they contribute to a lot of birth defects in children.

And don't forget the copious amounts of processed junk food they eat every night plus their gross vaping/weed habits on top of not exercising.

They really want us to think we’re infertile past the age we stop looking like children

My gyno did some tests & said the second I want to be pregnant, I will be (at 41).

Fertility doesn't drop for us until after 45.

The "after 35 fertility drops" nonsense is from a study in the 1500s in France.

Adoption will always be an option for me, I WILL have children WHEN I'm ready and not before.

I loved this part as well:

You know who isn’t treated as over-the-hill the moment they reach 35? Men. There still seems to be a pervasive idea that men don’t have biological clocks and can become a dad at any age. However, I’m afraid sperm doesn’t exactly age like a fine wine; sperm quality declines as men get older. Studies have shown that babies born to older fathers have been found to have an increased likelihood of health issues, psychiatric problems and cognitive disorders.

I thought there would be some FDS members who appreciated this part. Watching men in their thirties get fat, drink too much, eat garbage, no exercise and no concern for health at all and wonder how it's women that get told that the clock is ticking.

Specifically, a child’s risks of autism and schizophrenia skyrocket when dad is over 45 at conception.

[–]pinkcityscapeFDS Newbie 25 points26 points27 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My mother conceived naturally at both 41 and 45 so I don’t know why people act like it’s impossible after 35 it’s definitely a lie...

[–]Winter-Firefly 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My mom got pregnant with me when she was 40, the fear-mongering bioclock nonsense is just garbage to scare women into settling for dusty scrotes early in their lives if they want kids.

[–]fox_dariaFDS Newbie 22 points23 points24 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No kidding! Glad to see this.

Several of my family members from grandma to aunts had their last kids between 37-41. When my other grandma had her last kid, at aged 30, she said the doctor kept saying things like "you know at your age" and that was in the 1970s. So it's about time we used science and data to inform our understanding fertility. It's not going to be the same for everyone that's for sure but pinning an arbitrary # is harmful not to mention stupid.

Article aside, there's such a thing called wikifeet? 🤢 Enough internet for me today...

[–]janeaustenfan99 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is somewhat of a relief to read.

[–]-pop-fizz-clink 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm very grateful to be cf. I do not envy my sisters who truly want kids in this socioeconomic and dating climate. Good on those who are able to comfortably (financially, socially aka has a support system, and so forth) do it on their own (freezing egss, etc).
