Recently in other subcultures I've seen such vomit-inducing philosophies surrounding what I think is the concept of unconditional love. Basically a person (usually male) wants to be acknowledged and loved for "who they are" as a person and not the "shallow things".
At first you assume the "shallow things" are limited to wealth and social class which I understand to a degree but then you realize no, The "shallow things" in their eyes extend to intellect, accomplishments, hobbies, personal goals and even values. Like god damn, at what point do you see your life choices, morals and interests as a reflection of "who you are"?
At a certain point I just sort of concluded that it's all a shaming tactic used to instill a feeling of guilt on people who actually have something to show for their time on earth, and try to convince them to accept a partner of lower quality.
You hear it all the time in the manosphere "men don't care about your education, goals, hobbies, etc" as if it somehow makes them less shallow. No, those things make me who the fuck I am and if you can't at least APPRECIATE them, then you don't truly love me. It really is just that simple.
I've been accused of trying to "live vicariously through a partner by seeking their power" simply because I want a man who actually has intellectual and moral value. Nah fam. You just don't want to be held accountable for lacking in intellect, motivation, and chivalry.
I am by no means shaming women who appreciate expensive things and like to be shown it through gifts, and I also think that if you are coming from a background of high wealth and social class then it should reflect in your dating life. But that personally isn't me right now.
Everything I bring to the table (excluding my looks and figure) is character and intellect based. Men are really out here thinking that they are LESS shallow for not caring about my intelligence or morals, and trying to get me to do the same for them, just because they have nothing to show for who they are as people.
This phenomenon can also be seen in pickmes, but it's a bit more covert
