I used to check in on resilience.org back when it was focused on looming energy and resource decline and transition to an energy-constrained world. Now it's just a place for opinions that are vaguely leftish or progressivish.

To be fair, many of the comments at men's lib are calling out the simplistic thinking in the piece.

This reads like a high school term paper. The sort where the teacher is just happy that the student actually turned it in, therefore A+. It doesn't even have a conclusion, it just sorta... stops. Thankfully.

A titillatingly dehumanizing and empathy-deflecting presentation, along the lines of Susan Sontag's quip about the white race being a cancer on humanity - white men as a problem, white men as a surplus, the hypnotic repetition of "problem" (15 times) and "surplus" (30 times), an enumeration of all the evils the problem men and the surplus men and the white men are guilty of. And after all that fun and profit, the figleaf that, oh you're mistaken, I don't see white men as so much invasive vermin to be killed off, what seemed like gleeful use of problem and surplus about human beings was a distancing ironic reference to how capitalism exploited these men. We don't want them dead, though naturally after all that's happened we can't allow them to be the majority in any nation or municipality or neighborhood, to be proud custodians of their ancestors' achievements, to be in any position to advocate for themselves or enact social norms in which they and their children can flourish.

I've said this many time before, so I'll say it again:

The idea that you can assign collective blame or guilt to an entire gender or ethnic group based on the specific innocence or guilt of a consistent element of said group is reprehensible. There are billions of men and hundreds of millions of white people. Neither white people nor men at an individual level speak for or act on behalf of their entire race or gender. If we said the same thing about black people or women, there would be (and rightly so) universal outrage.
