If you want a LTR: Meet people - and I do mean people, not just women - through common interests. Build out your friend circles. You'll find women you click with, and women you click with and have chemistry with. Not all of them will want to date you, but some will. Key is to not make finding someone the main goal - keeps the pressure and creep-factor out.
Tinder's fine for a fling. If you're not getting matches flesh out your profile. Demonstrate you'd be a considerate date. Think about why you would spend time with someone like you and advertise what you have to offer. Be up front about what you're looking for, but work to be as inclusive/open as you can and don't put down anyone's attributes/preferences when stating your own. When matched, don't just assume they're DTF just out the gate - find out what makes them tick and what they want out of things and determine if you're willing to meet their needs before you jump to sex.

Holy shit, I think this is the best advice I've read in a while. So much online relationship advice is totally out of touch and not at all what I've experienced in my life. The best way to meet people is to simply do stuff. Get involved with stuff, anything that interests you. When you put yourself out there, you're exposed to so many new people, and some of those new people will be potential lovers.
[–]mazxmazx1 points 4 years ago [recovered] (44 children) | Copy Link
That sounds good in theory but I'm not in college I don't have a way to build out friend circles. I don't get matches and they never reply back anyways.
[–]atman714 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
Dude, you could do anything. I used to be lonely and not have a big circle, but in early highschool I got involved with lifeguarding. I loved it and loved the friends I made at this pool, and quickly ranked up to a LifeGuard Instructor, and then a manager. I met my first girlfriend doing this too.

Just turned 30

Are you sure it has nothing to do with your personality? We're all just here trying to help and you're already being pretty rude. Why post on here if you're going to deny everyone's advice and type in all caps?
[–]mazxmazx 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
You know there might be something to this now that I think about it. I guess I'm just frustrated that until I have a social life with many friend groups I'm not worthy of anyone. If that is what everyone is saying though then that's fine I will work on it.
[–]atman714 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
That's not what we mean. It's an odds game. If you sit at home and don't get out of the house, odds are you're not going to meet a variety of people and potential lovers. Whereas, if you pursue hobbies you enjoy and make friends, you'll begin to expand your social circle and potentially find a partner. Maybe one of your friends will say "you know, there's this girl that would match you well, let me set it up."
[–]mazxmazx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I already made it crystal clear I go to the gym runs 5s then hangout at coffee shop and read. Where on my post or comments did you get the idea I sit at home all day?
[–]atman71416 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I don't think you understand hypotheticals. I'm saying that someone who doesn't get out much has statistically lower odds of finding a potential partner than someone that does. You're taking everything I'm saying as if it has to literally apply to your life, and it's honestly annoying.
[–]mazxmazx1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
That's a misunderstanding on my end. My bad
[–]heytheredelilah917 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Those are great activities but they are usually solo activities. Find some way to make them social. Join a book club, find a sport or workout class, something of that nature.
[–]atman714 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When I become friends with someone, I don't look at their social life and say "i wonder if they have enough friends to be worthy of me." I'm friends with them if our personalities mesh well.
[–]honey-bundy-88 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
How did you get that from his response?
[–]mazxmazx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Thats what it sounded like but he already explained it so if you have something to add that's really helpful and I will appreciate it but if you're going to beat a dead horse than I can do without that
[–]honey-bundy-882 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Ok, you have a defeatist mindset. For every piece of advice people gave, you deemed it impossible for your situation right off the bat. You’re using extraneous examples from this sub while ignoring the context (and the women actually giving their opinions) around them that makes them unacceptable. There are plenty of women in the real world who wouldn’t mind being approached in a respectful, earnest manner. Focus on the hobbies and goals that would better your life first before you invite someone else in your world. Stop catastrophizing and get on with your life!
Okay thanks for the advice. It tough to hear but its probably spot on
[–]RabbitNRaccoon10 points 4 years ago [recovered] (18 children) | Copy Link
You have a way. You just don't want to put the effort in.
"I shouldn't have to make any changes to my daily routine but I still expect to get a partner".
Makes no sense. You need to change it up so hard and force yourself to get out more. Or stop complaining.
[–]mazxmazx0 points 4 years ago [recovered] (17 children) | Copy Link
When did I say I won't makes changes? I'm on reddit asking what changes I should make. But I'm not 18 I don't go to school anymore. Where I'm I suppose to find people to befriend as an adult?? Let alone groups of them
[–]RabbitNRaccoon10 points 4 years ago [recovered] (16 children) | Copy Link
You find them by going out. And doing stuff. Pick up some more hobbies. And interests. If you don't have any hobbies or interests that involve other people you're not gonna meet anyone.
Even if you don't particularly like socializing alot, you have to pick up some that force you to at least be around other people. It could be volunteering. I'm not saying going to bars and clubs.
But going to basketball once or twice a week is nothing really.
[–]mazxmazx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link
Ok thanks for the advice. What hobbies do you have where you meet women? What do you recommend?
[–]karikit 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
"Key (to the common interest approach) is to not make finding someone the main goal - keeps the pressure and creep-factor out."
You missed the point already. Start with what hobbies YOU are interested in, independent of whether you can meet women through them. People can tell if you're faking a hobby just so you can hook up with women and it comes off really skeevy.
What interests do you actually have? Maybe this thread can weigh in on how to use your interest to open up your social circles.
[–]mazxmazx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I play basketball, workout at my gym and read at a coffee shop. Other than that I mostly surf YouTube, watch Netflix and play video games.
[–]hella_elle 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Have you considered book clubs? Doesn't have to be in person clubs (usually at libraries), the pandemic has helped start a lot of online ones. There could be some more focused on whatever genres you like to read.
As for gaming, there are plenty of women who like to game as well. Joining discord servers for your fav games could help, and interacting with the fandoms can help you find friends with common interests. Good luck!
[–]Litgamenerd 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
Hella’s advice is great, and I just wanted to add you could look into a local games shop, or arcade group. Things like anime clubs or clubs based around certain shows pop up around these spaces because they offer a spot to meet and talk over a shared interest in a space that is already geared towards that kind of atmosphere and genre (ie. games shops are for “nerds” so you’ll find more “nerd things” in games shops).
The important thing I want to remind you of is that you don’t have to dive in and pick up 15 new hobbies and go out every night, take it one step at a time. Think of it as trying to make new friends too, both men and women. Most people whom don’t just happen to find the right person via a dating app meet each other through a shared hobby and it slowly develops into a relationship. Remember that you’re probably not going to get down the first woman you come across, and that’s okay. A long and fulfilling relationship means finding someone you mesh with really well, and you need to learn people to know if they match what you’re looking for.
*Edit: Typos
This is pretty good advice but I'm not a nerd. Also 15 hobbies seems excessive. How many hobbies do you have? What do you do in your free time?
[–]Litgamenerd1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
That was my point, you don’t need to be diving into 15 different things at once, you start with one or two, apologies for the typo and confusion. As was the nerd location suggestion, it was just to give you an idea of what kind of place you’re looking for.
You said you play basketball, which is great. Have you talked to your teammates about catching up for something like drinks after a game? As a way to move things from acquaintances to friends. Or do you train at the same place as women teams? You could try asking some of the women to vs you in a training exercise as a way to meet them. As long as you don’t push things immediately from “hey would you mind running against me for this exercise” to “nice boobs, want to grab dinner now?” You’ll do great.
I play at my local Lifetime Fitness. There are never any women playing basketball it it doesn't really lend itself to meeting women admittedly but I love playing and if I quit so I could take a yoga class like many people suggested I would be miserable
Yeah don’t quit something you love for the hopes of finding a lady, your personal happiness is worth more than that.

Great! There are some things you can do within your existing set of hobbies that people have mentioned - join book clubs, discord/gaming communities, your gym might have some community events you can explore.
In addition, consider stretching into just one or two social hobbies - trivia night, social dancing salsa/swing, runner's club, etc. Really consider joining a coed intramural sport - it's a great workout and camaraderie at the same time.
Lastly, remember even if these groups don't produce an immediate date, they'll expand your social circle to the point where you'll be meeting new women through your new friend groups.
I asked this question because most hobbies can be done alone at home which defeats the purpose.
[–]karikit 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Most hobbies could be done alone at home AND could be done socially.
Start by taking your existing hobbies and look for the social/community experiences it has to offer. I think you got some great suggestions on this thread already.
If you want a stretch goal, you can further supplement that with generic social activities - salsa/swing dancing, taking classes (cooking, art, writing, etc), join a co-ed sport club, etc.
Out of the suggestions given to you on this thread - what are you planning to do first?
[–]mazxmazx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don't have much so far. I found a local members only gaming club I'm going to try out. I'm also considering taking some classes at my local community college but the class are pretty expensive and they only meet once a week so I'm not sure about them.
Alot of people have suggested yoga and salsa dancing. I'm a little torn about doing those because I have no interest in them outside of meeting women. But at the same time when I say I'm not interested people call me out for being unwilling to make changes. How do I balance only doing things I'm genuinely interested in with doing things I'm not interested in if it gets me around more people? Where do you draw the line?
[–]karikit2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
People will call you out if you judge something before you try it. If you had said "I've taken a few salsa classes but decided that community wasn't for me" then no one would harp on it.
The answer is that you give the stretch activities a try (and I mean 3-5 good attempts, not just try it once) and then draw the line from an informed place.
In the meantime, there are meetups and Facebook groups and communities springing up all the time around common hobbies. I suspect you can find more than just the members only gaming club if you did more research. Do some homework and find 3 more communities related to your existing hobbies.
Also check that this "members only gamers club" is inclusive of women and isn't going to be a sausage fest. The same criteria should apply to any group/community you join - should be a place women feel comfortable in.
[–]PthaloGreen 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Local hobby-based MeetUp groups are handy like that. Some are also specifically for singles.
[–]luridlurker 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
What hobbies do you have? What activities are you interested in doing that can involve others? Hiking? Gaming? Repairing cars? If you don't have interests that you can connect to others on, are there things you can see yourself building interest in?
For matches, you have to hone your profile. It's work. You have to advertise why you'd be fun/interesting. If you're not spending time developing hobbies and skills, this might be difficult.
[–]mazxmazx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I play basketball at my gym everyday after work from 5-8pm. Then I go to my local coffee shop from 8pm to 10pm and read
[–]luridlurker 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's awesome. Do you shoot hoops by yourself? Play with others? Have you considered joining a book club? Do you say hi to any of the regulars at the coffee shop?
You don't have to answer any of those questions - this is just for you to think through where/how you can build things out. If you're comfortable, push yourself to set up a platonic date. Doesn't have to be with a woman. Just be bold enough to ask someone to have coffee with you after basketball, or start up a chat with another regular at the coffee shop.
Thanks for the advice. What hobbies do you have where you meet women? What would you recommend?
Depends. I'd suggest not joining groups explicitly to meet women. For me, I found people I had the most in common with in hacker and makerspaces- specifically around wood working and machining. Building something together is a great way to explore peoples' personalities and how everyone fits together. If they happen to be of the opposite sex and there's chemistry too, it's a great way of vetting out potential partners for compatibility.

I don't know if it is true that they hate being approached cold, I think if anything they are referring to rude, insistent approaches in strange places.
[–]mazxmazx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
No it's common knowledge women don't like being cold approched
[–]atman714 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
It's obviously not that common, because I know couples where the man approached the woman cold. From most girls that I've talked to, they just don't like being approached in places like the gym or at work, where they're busy and not looking to get constantly bothered.
[–]mazxmazx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
How is this different from what I said?
[–]atman714 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
You are saying no cold approaches are acceptable. We are saying context matters. Some are fine.
[–]mazxmazx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That's fair but from what I have read on here cold approached is mostly unwelcomed and I'm not trying to go around creaping 99 women out just so maybe 1 will show interest

Then don't be a creep. Have a normal convo, ask them out, and if they say no, gracefully say "nice talkng to you" and bow out.
It not that I'm a creep it the idea that women are creeped out by men who approach

Well, I don't really know because I don't usually socialize. But I used to read a seduction blog and the guy recommended approaching women in bars, clubs, and places where people went to hang out and socialize. The guy on the blog commented that some women even told him that it was great that he was talking to them face to face, because now men did it all on Whatsapp. But hey, I guess that's just one guy's experience with a blog. It will depend on many things, even the country you live in.

You are 30 years old pal. It’s time to start acting like it and toughen up and ditch this. You aren’t a awkward high school kid trying to find the courage to ask out your crush to prom. You are a full grown man? Be decisive
[–]MegusMarte1 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
DUDE, stop overthinking. You’re self doubt is incredibly frustrating. Girls HATE that shit so get rid of it ASAP. I have a great deal of self doubt myself but holy crap dude people are giving you solid advice at literally every turn and telling you what to do and telling you that the convoluted narrative in your head you’ve adopted is nothing but BS and you keep giving yourself a reason to not try something. It’s called TRIAL and ERROR there is no guarantee of anything, everything occurs on a situational basis. You can never know unless you try, there is very much a chance a specific won’t like you or like being approached by you specifically or any guy in general at a certain place but that isn’t absolute. Just try it out, you have nothing to lose by trying and everything to lose by sitting here whining and second guessing yourself about shit. Excuse me for being so harsh but how can you expect a woman to find you attractive if you are second guessing yourself and can’t be be decisive in a simple thing such as approaching her in public or accepting solid advice from people about where to meet girls? All you have is excuses for yourself buddy. Get up, put up, or shut up
[–]fembitch97 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Just to be clear, I’m a woman and I don’t mind cold approaches in public places. I’ve had guys hit on me in the gym or the supermarket and they were polite so it really didn’t bother me. I think the majority of women don’t mind being cold approached as long as you’re very polite, just be prepared to take a rejection respectfully.
[–]mazxmazx -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That's fine but you're in the minority
[–]fembitch97 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Do you have any proof of that?
[–]mazxmazx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There are many post in this very community of women saying they don't like being approched and how it makes them feel uncomfortable
[–]fembitch97 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah, I’ve seen those. I’m just saying a lot of what you see online doesn’t actually represent the majority of women.
Literally lol. This dude is just reading everything at face value and making absolutist assumptions. I’ve literally gotten all kinds of signals from chicks at the gym that indicated attraction, this guy just has low self esteem and is doing everything he can in his power to convince himself he has no hope. Women don’t care where you hit on them just has to be the right guy/circumstance/approach
[–]absolutebeginners 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Who cares what they think? It's not "redpill" to talk to women in public. Just don't be weird about it and take the hint if they're not interested.
[–]CanadianCatanian 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
As a woman who dislikes being cold approached, I’m surprised at some of the comments here implying I’m in the minority, lol. I for one am grateful that you’ve believed a lot of the women who say they hate it. But I am an extreme introvert with anxiety, so women who are more extroverted and/or actively looking to date may like being approached! If you have to do it, I’d agree with the others that suggest clubs or bars, places that are kinda ‘for’ flirting and finding people. (Even though I personally wouldn’t want to be approached in those places either lol.)
[–]mazxmazx 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and provide some balance lol I know I'm not totally out of pocket
[–]mammajess 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I'm kind of similar in a way but I don't mind a cold approach but I just want to be treated like a person, not be "picked up". Like if they treat me in a friendly, non-flirting way at first I can see if I like them, then I would give a very clear signal so they can commence any flirting. Actually, that's not even necessary for me. But I like quiet shy men, not asshats like some men I've seen out there. If a dude was to try to do PUA shit on me I'd probably punch them in the balls LOL
[–]mazxmazx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
So much of this requires mind reading. So a guy should approach you and talk in a non flirtatious manner (that is extremely subjective) until you give him a sign (that is somehow not necessary) at which time he should flip a switch and become flirty? How do men navigate that?
[–]mammajess 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Maybe I was unclear, I apologise. It's not nice to get confused by people when you're trying to understand things like this.
1) I mean just talk to me like someone you were not trying to have sex with, just like neutral, friendly, open manner. No pick up tactics, just human to human. Two humans observing whatever thing is happening that instigated the conversation. Then I can "read" you because you're not trying to be another person or initiate some kind of tactic. Having time to read you means I can decide if I like you or not. I can feel who you are and pick up on cool stuff like what kind of words you like to use or the way your eyes smile when you talk or whatever.
2) for me I just don't like to be "picked up". You know that little French fellow with a mohawk who does the cringey PUA stuff I think I would murder him if he tried to pick he up LOL. I make it very obvious if I like someone. Generally I would break the barrier via some kind of touching, like a joking punch in the arm or something, standing closer etc. The guys I like are not necessarily so socially astute so I make it very, very obvious.
3) I meant the man doesn't even have to have flirting skills. It's not necessary beyond being a human who has enough confidence to talk to other humans. I know what I like in people and I am very observant.
I'm here to represent some measure of diversity I guess. I'm not sure how many girls are like me. But I absolutely hate any kind of pick up business. I can smell inauthenticity a mile away and I personally don't like the man taking too much lead and pushing me around or pressuring me. There is some amount of trauma around this due to some crimes I have been a victim of and I thought that was it earlier in my life.
But actually it's something more taboo than that. So taboo I didn't understand it was possible and couldn't understand myself properly for a long time. I'm sexually dominant. I don't mean like I tie my husband up or something or whip him. I mean I naturally am supposed to take the lead in dating. I sometimes get all demure and like my man to dominate me too but that's kind of a fun roleplay for us. Really my nature is to be the one who leads the affection, even if I am pretending not to be. My husband is an extremely introverted very cute nerdy type person and I jump all over him and give him big kisses and make him giggle and sneak up behind him and grab his ass etc etc. All he does is make love eyes at me and say basically nothing LOL. We laugh a lot and have lots of affection but he rarely initiates. We're both a little unusual I guess but we're like peas in a pod :)
I hope I made sense that time. This shit is very complex and I guess everyone tries to simplify it too much like women like X women don't like Y.
[–]mazxmazx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for explaining this. People are saying I need to meet women doing group hobbies. Is that how you meet your husband?
Yeah I agree many people simplify this and it is complex. I'm like I'm not a mind reader. How am I supposed to know who likes what, when they like to be approched, and how they like to be approched if at all.
[–]mammajess 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
How am I supposed to know who likes what, when they like to be approched, and how they like to be approched if at all.
The thing that sucks is that you cannot know this beyond 1) paying attention to body language cues (what is a happy smile vs a fake uncomfortable smile) and 2) always stopping when a woman says no. You seem like someone who would be happy to do either of those things. Beyond that you have to know you will sometimes make mistakes and look dumb. I could not tell you how many weird things I did when I was young and didn't understand what was going on LOL
Doing group hobbies is a great idea, find something you have interest in that is popular also with women in your age group.
I met him online when I was interested in visiting his country. We talked for 2 months before meeting. It was a big gamble, the way the holiday was planned out it would have been mega weird if we hadn't have liked each other IRL. Thankfully the whole thing was actually a million times better than either of us could have expected. We were then very confused about what to do because we loved each other then. We had to get married to live in the same country. It was all pretty insane. We got married and live in my country now. I then had to make all kinds of applications to immigration so I could keep him! He's mine tho now LOL :D
[–]mazxmazx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Is stopping when someone says no or shows disinterest enough though? Every time I do that I still walk away feeling like I just wronged someone who didn't even asked to be engaged.
[–]mammajess 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
But if she looks at you like a stunned animal or looks angry straight away just get out of there, she doesn't want to talk.
Every time that happens though I always feel disgusting and I feel that everyone is judging me.
[–]mammajess 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are very self conscious. I was very self conscious as a young person. I lived in crippling embarrassment of myself 24/7. I'm not sure how to make it better on purpose but I'm sure a therapist knows. For me it got better naturally over time. Oh one thing that helped was this saying "what other people think of me is none of my business".
[–]mammajess 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The girl will be ok as long as you are polite, she will get on with her life and not think about it much afterwards. As long as you don't get angry or needy afterwards like demanding to know why she isn't interested or whatever. It's not like an assault or something. Just be wholesome about it, you're just trying to get to know someone better. No one can be too offended by that :)
[–]DarkestTimeline24 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I want to meet people when I feel safe and I’m up to it. In my city it’s not normal to just talk to strangers unless you need like direction or bus fare. I don’t want to be hit on at my bus stop, or at work, or when I’m sweating at the gym trying not to make eye contact while I do my hip thrusts. online dating is kind of fucked and is rough on a lot of people and I don’t know that anyone likes it exactly. In public though If I want to mingle and flirt I go to specific places bars, pubs, dinner parties, social events, games stores and hobby shops, pool halls places where socializing is the point. There’s cues beyond this. If someone is sitting at a booth in a bar getting dinner with friends that’s prolly not a good time to talk to them. But someone on their own or with just a buddy or two at the counter right by the bartender, they’re prolly a little more up to talking to strangers.
So you agree with my premise? I cant tell but it sounds like you do

I think we’re in a time where these scripts need to be workshopped. I think attitudes have changed and there are different expectations and boundaries being established. Women are trying to learn to be more comfortable initiating but culturally this is going to take time. But also women’s main ambition in America often isn’t marriage anymore so they they simply aren’t pressed enough to want to be approached by strangers all the time. They just aren’t pressed for connections like that. While this overall is healthy it does mean that dating is just a little different now and learning what that can look like is taking time. We as a whole spend less time in community spaces in recent years. With the plague it’s impossible to go out regularly and even before life is terribly busy and folks are not good about making time to socialize. I think a lot of people struggle right now to pull themselves off their computers and out of their homes to BBQs and bowling alleys and stuff. Everyone I know is overworked and not making enough money. Everyone is more isolated than they ought to be right now, it’s always been a challenge to meet people outside of university or college. Making friends is harder the older you get. I feel like it is especially tough in recto years. There’s a lack of space and time for good communal socialization. I think a conscious effort needs to be made to try and build more of this into our lives-well hopefully when covid is more under control anyway.
The comments to my replies are saying I need to grow up and start approaching women and that women will be receptive to this. What are your thoughts. Am I being immature for not doing this and do I need to start?

Of course you should keep trying to date if you want to date? What is the other option? Accept that it’s hard and work on it. Approach women but take sometime to think about when and how it’s most appropriate to do so. Everyone struggles with it sometimes. Regardless of how old we are. It’s gets easier with practice.

The options are not Tinder or approach random women.
Capitalize on your social circle. And if you have a small social circle, getting out and making friends and connecting with people is good practice for your interpersonal skills in general. Making friends and having mutual friends is an effective way to meet new people and potential dates.
Secondly, join in person clubs/groups based around an activity. My best friend joined a co-ed softball league and that alone has expanded her social circle dramatically. A lot of people on her team met their SOs through the league and attending parties after games.
Third, frequent the same place daily, and go at the same time. You will meet the regulars and meet people who are there consistently. This can be a coffee shop if you have limited options. Go there at a certain time and hang out and read for an hour. My favourite is always going to the gym- I met my partner because we both worked out at 3pm 5 days a week. I saw him there so often that we ended up chatting and that led to a date which turned into a marriage. Additionally, I have made a ton of friends by virtue of being a gym rat and seeing familiar faces who you become friendly with.
Fourth, volunteer. This is another great way to meet people. Alternatively, you can take on a part time job that is social. One of my best friends retired young after developing a successful app, and he bartended on weekends for 3 years because it was isolating being a 30 year old dude who was retired and introverted. Bartending allowed him to meet people, and I know he dated some women who he met at the bar. This isn't going to be feasible for everyone- but even a public facing job on weekends can be a good way to meet new people, make friends with coworkers, and be in situations where it's normal to interact with a stranger.
Fifth, ask for advice/feedback on your dating profiles from friends (especially female friends). I revamped one of my male friends profiles because his was absolute garbage and despite him being an amazing and intelligent guy, he came across as a boring player on the apps. I helped him with his answers/bio and his photo selection and he told me he had about a 20% rise in matches. I've seen guys use the apps and they usually swipe based on the photos. Women tend to read the bios and answers, and that will impact their decision a lot more.
Lastly, don't bank on getting approached. It's very taboo for women to ask out men (even though I asked out my man!), and women are socialized to believe that if men don't come to them, they're doing something wrong. Men are taught to chase, and women are taught to attract. It sucks and it's pretty outdated, but it's a reality that you need to accept. And no, there is no need to give up. Finding someone who you are compatible with takes time. It's not going to happen overnight. And 9/10 dates end without a second date. When it comes down to it, we're not going to be romantically compatible with most people. It takes time to find someone you have a genuine connection with.
Patience is required. And if you're more of an introvert, it will take some time to get comfortable socializing and putting yourself out there. But the more you can expand your social circle and put yourself in situations where it's normal to chat with strangers- the better chance you'll have of meeting potential matches.
Getting bitter and disillusioned is a huge liability if you're looking for a romantic connection. Having that attitude means you'll likely end up projecting resentment onto women who don't deserve it.

By cold approach do you mean a guy walking up to me? I usually meet guys in person I don't use online dating usually because I tend to find a similar pattern in the men I date on there vs in person.
In person if I like a guy I usually give a smile and play with my hair and that's enough to make him come over to talk, if he smart enough to catch subtle hints he's already passed by biggest test.
The problem with cold approach is those guys tend to not be able to tell when I'm not interested and they stay there too long and start to get borderline harassing. Then when I firmly reject they get super mad and aggressive which is very scary.
I'm in the process of getting my concealed weapons license because one time an Uber driver took me to these back roads in the middle of nowhere and started hitting on me. I was so scared I thought I was getting kidnapped and he wouldn't leave, I had to beg him to take me home.
[–]mazxmazx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Sorry that happened. That really sucks.
I have a few follow up questions.
Do you like guys approaching you at the gym, coffee shop or grocery store?
When you signal guys you like do you make eye contact first? How do you go about getting their eye contact? If a guy needs to make eye contact with you first how would he do that if youre not looking at him already without staring?
[–]MaliaXOXO 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I've had guys approach me at the gym usually I don't mind as long as it's not while I'm in the middle of a set. Best time is right after I finish a machine or a particular workout and transitioning to the next workout.
Coffee shop usually while waiting in line I'll have a guy start flirting with me if he's attractive I'll reciprocate.
Grocery Store most guys don't approach because I buy Vegan food and they look more confused than anything.
I like to go to lounges and bars with my girlfriends than we will signal guys to come talk to us with my index finger like a come hither movement. So I don't actually walk up and talk to a guy, I usually walk right past them and wait for them to catch my eye once they do I'll smile and play with my hair. If he hasn't approached me I'll sit down and smile again if that doesn't work I usually just move on. I've even walked by and dropped a something from my purse to see if he'll pick it up for me and start a Convo that way.
Usually the guys will just walk up and talk to me without signaling anything and I'll talk and try to see if there a connection.
Damn that's a real boss way to signal a guy.
Okay so I get your bar/lounge game but do you signal in your day to day life also or do guys kinda just know not to engage you unless they're attractive?
[–]MaliaXOXO 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Oh unattractive guys hit on me all the time I usually don't mind as long as they are respectful, I usually tell them I have a boyfriend or try to avoid them by not giving eye contact. Sometimes I'll have to make excuses like I have to go, some are very persistent and can't talk no for an answer.
Another way I signal is just saying Hi to start a friendly conversation to kind of test the waters.
If a guys wants to get your eye contact to see if you are potentially interested would it be weird if you were sitting at a table at a coffee shop reading a book or something and when you momentarily looked up he was already staring at you from across the room? I know it an awkward situation but I'm curious what actions Is socially acceptable for a man to go in order to initiate eye contact. Making unwelomed eye contact is a big fear of mine.
[–]MaliaXOXO 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think if you make eye contact and long as you give a little tiny smile and make sure it's not creepy(lustful) it's fine. It's hard a situation to predict. Reading a book if I'm looking up and catch a guys attention if I like him I might play with my hair if not I'd look straight back at the book and keep reading.

You gotta stop being so extremist for a start lol!
Not everyone hates the cold approach. And you shouldn’t just give up. There’s so much middle ground.
You gotta be smart. Think smart. Try something. Observe. Collect data. And apply that data to your next attempt. Keeping in mind that all people are unique individuals. So what may not work for one person — may work for another.
You can also just observe people without having to participate in the science. go to a grocery store. Notice how many couples there are. How many singles they are. Make any notable observations? One thing I notice, is there’s a lot of shorter guys in relationships, so the internet isn’t always true, LOL!
Figure out what your strengths are. And what your weaknesses are. Play to your strengths.
The key is to practice with intention. Science with intention. Don’t wing life without taking observation. Hone in on learning.
And if you just can’t learn. Or life is too hard, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Women don't hate being cold approached who ever told you that?
[–]mazxmazx -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Many women on and off reddit have made that clear. If you disagree fine but dont ack like you've never heard of this before
[–]unlivedbread 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
They're in the minority. I do alot of cold approaches and most women find it very flattering. Many will tell me they wished more men would do it. Just don't be fucking obnoxious, unaware, or creepy and you're fine
Saying that most women dislike it is just a huge cope because its scary as shit and hard to do.

YOGA IS A GREAT IDEA!!!!!
Like if a guy found a more "feminine" interest that he really does like and he genuinely got into that he would be surrounded by women and have lots of women friends. And if they trust you and like you they might introduce you to the nice, stable girl you want.
[–]ResponsibleAd2541 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Informal matchmaking still works , ask around to friends and family. The benefit of that is that you get some prescreening for assholes and if use the family, you probably don’t have to worry about them “approving” (lol, you get what I mean) on the back end.

women hate being cold approached
Different women will react differently to this, I am sure. Even among my fellow women friends, we act differently, down to the way we accept or reject.
I got cold approached quite often, usually either being offered to get to nearest cafe for lunch or if I want to take their numbers. Happened everywhere too. During grocery shopping, in a train once, when I was walking my dog, etc. I always politely told them "no, thank you" and when they asked why, I just told them that I am not interested. And so far, 100% of them always accepted that rejection gracefully. No harassing, no pestering.
But that is just me. I have a female friend that will always say yes and take the guy's numbers as token of appreciation because she thinks bravery should be positively awarded. She had bad and good experience from those decisions too.
Another female friend will just raise her hand and say no and nothing else.
So you see, different woman will react differently for cold approach.
That's fair enough but I'm not a mind reader. How am I supposed to know if my approach is going to make someone really uncomfortable. I dont think its fair to the women who I approach to take that risk with there sence of safety especially if they are minding there own business. Would you agree?
[–]supertitiz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
lol cold approach only works if you are hot and/or super charming. otherwise it's creepy. given that you don't get matches on tinder, don't bother with cold approach. improve yourself.
You might be on to something. What would you recommend?
[–]supertitiz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
if you are looking for serious relationship, i agree with others, build a social circle and go from there. you can try dating apps with better pics too. i mainly rely on dating apps but since i am not very good looking, quality of girls are not very high + having a good relationship is more fulfilling anyway. so i'd say lose weight/build muscle, get better pics and try OLD again while building social circles.
