I don't think that mental illness explains this woman's actions. Only about 18% of hybristophiliacs have a diagnosed mental illness, which is quite a low rate. Except for being openly attracted to criminals, hybristophiliacs are not very different from regular women.

Women's attraction to criminals is likely just a side-effect of their preference for dominant high status men (essentially bodyguard hypothesis). In the natural setting, antisocial behavior was likely a reliable signal of dominance and high status, because men could only afford antisocial behavior if they had already secured substantial status in the tribe.

Regardless of one's "-pilling," a reasonable person would probably explain the situation by saying that some people are just fucking nuts. The lesson is that you have to trust your gut, identify them, and stay far away from them. I don't think this story is much deeper than that.

it’s ridiculous that people want to use some unified theory to explain every single action of every single person. we have general guidelines of social behavior sure, and we have unified theories to explain physical phenomena, but physics is the most fundamental science.

biological systems are much too complex for us to develop a theory that would explain the actions of every single person, and be able to comprehend the crazy calculations it would require to actually understand it.

some people are just insane. there doesn’t need to be a pilled explanation, though bluepill is notably less rigid and would probably agree with the sentiment that some people are just insane. regardless of what system you use there are people who defy your way of thinking. the mechanisms that are truly at work are too nuanced for us to fully accurately comprehend.

There is a mental health condition known as "hybristophilia." It affects about four percent of people who work in prisons (not just guards...also nurses, teachers, etc in a prison setting), although it affects others too. It does affect women more than men, but it affects men, too.

Hybristophilia is known in modern-day as basically being attracted to individuals who have committed criminal acts.

Experts say it's because women who work in prisons often work in positions that lead to more emotional bonds with inmates. They work as their counselors, for example, and inmates open up to them. They see these inmates as "humans" with emotions, often troubled pasts, etc., and they begin to feel empathy for them.

It is 100% unacceptable, but it's certainly not correct to pretend this is normal female behavior.

There are R strategists and there are K strategists. They look for different things in partners, they have different genetic personality traits. You also have people who could go either way. It wasn't that she just couldn't control herself. Plenty of women can control themselves, it's not just a matter of circumstance and any woman will cheat. Men are more likely to cheat if the opportunity presents itself, not women and there are men who resist that too. It's a mating strategy. He may have also been charismatic, or she wanted to mother him or something. You see that sometimes in older woman/younger man relationships. May not be genetic, might just be some moral failing. She was taking advantage of him, given her position and age. Plenty of guards have dealing with inmates, sexual or otherwise, regardless of training and many are not trained right. RP types only look at thing that support their worldview and disregard the bigger picture. A bigger picture look would let you see men and women do this, probably men more so and that not all women, or men cheat. But you overgeneralize and catastrophize. You don't think clearly. Heaven only knows what other problems you have than negative thinking and this is true of most males in this sphere. People do things that royally screw-up their lives all the time. Doesn't mean all women will cheat with a murderer. Also, plenty of men get away with crimes, especially of a sexual nature, whatever their job. If you're surprised by that then you're not clued into the reality of how much more often men do these types of things.
