A couple days ago, I was working on a group assignment in class, and one of my classmates had invited his friend to help along with us. Over the course of our 12ish hour long day, (I'm in film school and we were shooting a music video), I was able to talk to this girl quite a bit, and she seemed to enjoy my company, but my anxiety came over me, and I was ultimately not able to ask for her number. Now I know I completly missed my chance to ask a girl to go on a date with me, but I'm honestly just as sad that I missed out on making a potential new friend.

I knew there was a very small chance that she would have been interested in going on a date, but people are generally very comfortable giving away their contact information if they liked talking to you, especially if you had a conversation that lasted more than 15 minutes. Over the course of my college career, I'm pretty sure I've asked almost a dozen people, (both men and women), for their numbers, and not one of them said no, even though I've never been on an actual date. That is, however, how I've made the majority of my friends, by asking for their number.

Now I personally dislike communicating through text because of the general lack of tone indicators, but asking for someone's number, still gives you a way to further communicate with them. Through text you can plan hang outs, dates, and get togethers after having met someone in person, where as not asking for someones number could lead to no further engagement.

Six months ago, I was on set for another music video, and there was a different girl there that I was interested in. She, as well , liked talking to me, and I was able to ask for her number. I can confidently say that she is one of my friends now, even if we're not dating. The only difference between my interaction with her and the girl from the other music video is that I ACTUALLY had the guts to ask for her number, and then later on, tried asking her if she wanted to spend more time with me. The girl from the other music video, I don't even know if I'll see her again to be honest, and it's all because I was too afraid to ask a simple question.

The only downside to asking someone for they're number, is that they could ghost you afterwords, which has happened to me quite a bit, but the friends I've made through asking just a simple question has been worth it, and I'm confident that I'll hopefully still meet a potential partner this way. Plus, if they ghost, then they're probably not worth your time anyway.

TLDR: If a girl interests you, try to ask her for her number because even if you don't get a date or a relationship, you might at least make a new friend.
