Is it people online who are calling you shallow? If so, I wouldn't take advice from armchair psychologists because I think most of them are coming from a place of anger or are just trolling.

I only say this because I am 5'3 and my partner is 5'6. Not one person in real life has ever said anything to my face about his height or critized my preference. I also prefer men who are at least an inch or two taller than myself, but it doesn't mean I would never give a shorter guy a chance.

It doesn’t really matter who thinks you’re shallow or not. What DOES matter is how likely you are to get what you want. If you are Team 6’0+ or Bust, that’s all well and good, but you have to be okay with the fact that you are significantly less likely to find a man who qualifies for that AND has all the good RMV traits that we look for in a man. Unless you are obnoxious about it and shove it down people’s throats, your preferences will not offend anyone and will not affect anyone else but yourself.

I call BS. No one has ever told you you're shallow for wanting a 5'6" guy, unless you live in a country with an extremely short average.

What they'll say is that, generically, women with height requirements are shallow. But they're talking about average height women who put 6' as their minimum on apps. They're also missing the point; that's a making rules for betas and breaking rules for alphas type thing, rarely an actual requirement. These women don't care if a guy is 5'11" or even 5'8" 9/10 times - they care if he makes her feel dominant. Height is just a hack there, not a requirement.

Almost every woman I know would be uncomfortable with someone shorter than her. Personally, I’m 5’5” and want someone at least 5’6”. I guess I have a hard time believing anyone’s calling you out on this. Maybe it depends where you live

Its okay to be shallow. You have the right to be shallow and desire superficial things from a partner. Everyone regardless of gender does that to an extent.

Every romantic relationship is somewhat transactional and made up of some superficial qualities. Its not completely made of superficial qualities, you’ve obviously got to like the person for who they are deep down, but its completely okay to like the shallow things that come with the relationship like sex perks, your partner being hot/attractive, money, status, etc.

It’s all normal, don’t let people shame you for having standards.

It’s typically women who accuse men of being shallow for wanting a fit woman.

Men, usually in retaliation, accuse women of being shallow for wanting tall men (tit for tat, basically).

The only difference is men actually have a point because height is out of someone’s control whereas weight is not.

Saying it is shallow might be a bit far, but the common response to height is that it is pretty much the one physical thing that cannot be changed.

Hair colour, muscle size, bra size, body fat ratio, clothes, appendage size... everything else is changeable either easily or with surgery. Height cannot be changed. This, as far as I have seen, is the usual objection to women liking taller men, it is unfair because it is the one thing they cannot change.

I’m a 5’2” woman. I want a man who is taller than me and I have never been called shallow for that. I have called other women shallow if they were like my height and insisted on only dating men 6’ or above. I think it’s perfectly natural as a woman to not want to be much larger than your partner, although it’s fine to not care about that too.

Now I do still think having a height gap preference is shallow (like someone my height insisting on 6’+ is very different than someone 5’11” having the same requirement). But I do think I was overly judgmental of women for having height preferences in the past. We can’t negotiate attraction and I’m sure each of us has at least 1 shallow thing that’s a deal breaker for us. As long as you’re not going insulting or criticizing men for being too short for you, it’s no one’s business but yours what criteria you use to select a partner.

However, the more criteria we have, the narrower our pool of potential partners gets. If something is an automatic turnoff for you, it’s ok to have it as a deal breaker. Just be realistic about how much of the population meets that requirement, how many of that group will meet your other requirements, how many other women are looking for the same niche in men as you, and how desirable you are.

I've heard of men who give the counter argument "how will women feel if a guy only wants to date a girl of a certain boob size n above?" I guess it comes from insecurity & frustration of the opp gender having a preference for a physical trait that we were born with and cant change naturally

They are more angry at how a woman can reject them for something out of their control. However, it’s fine to not be attracted to a shorter man. You want what you want, and you need to be attracted to your partner. So it’s them trying to name call to prevent you from rejecting men you’re not really into. It’s about your own happiness and them trying to make that invalid.

Either you’re not being honest with yourself (and actually have been rejecting guys who are 5’6”, 5’8”, etc merely for their height)….or you’re just trying to score pity points.
