It's funny how sensory acuity improves with time and practice... Your post reminds me of something that happened once that is a bit surprising to me in retrospect -

At a beach park one day, I had done some version of my usual little quick 'hello' to blip a woman's radar, after observing how attractive she was. She sought me out and re-engaged with me at my car where I was sitting, and we started to make conversation... and while I was sort of looking off while searching my mind for how to express my answer to something she asked, I somehow noticed and identified the way she way she was watching my eyes/eye contact to detect if I was just a friendly human or if I was actually interested.

SUPER subtle thing to pick up on, and I'm surprised I noticed and recognized it.

Anyway, in that instant, I knew to move out of my ultra relaxed state a little in order to use my eyes to let her feel my interest.

We talked another minute before she said, "I'm just gonna go over here and use the bathroom; I'll see you when I get back, if you're still here..."

Haha Game was on.

No, not just eye contact. Women will look you in the eye when they're making change at the cash register, so just eye contact is not a clear indicator. There has to be other body language vibes that go with it, like hair touching, she "perks" when she sees you, etc.
