Is saying "hey, I thought you were cute and so on" really a bad opener?

I think it's a fine opener if you're saying it and you genuinely mean it. It's quite polarising and will allow you to gauge a girl's interest quite quickly. If she flat out rejects in a harsh or negative way then obviously she's not interested and she's most likely not a pleasant person you would want to get to know anyway. Consequently you've saved yourself time by not beating around the bush and making lame small-talk about the weather and you can move on to the next girl.

The best opener is to tell the girl exactly what urged you to talk to her in the first place. If her cuteness is what appealed to you, then by all means use your opener. If her shoe laces is what appealed to you, then tell her how much you love her shoe laces and how you love people who wear great shoe laces. You'd be surprised at how good an opener honesty could be.

It can be a great opener. Yes some women dislike it - but some women LOVE the boldness. It gets you into personal conversation very quickly. It's also the only opener to use if you want to stop a woman who is walking down the street.

However, strong delivery is vital. If you don't say it loud and proud it will come off creepy.

Here's how I do it:

Warm up by telling a girl she's cute and then just walking away (say 'have a nice day' after or something). This takes all the pressure off you because you are not worried about what happens after the opener.
Approach a girl with your opener. Say it loudly and slowly, with pauses. I say it like this "I saw you from over there and I have to say (pause) you look (pause) REALLY cute today, so I just wanted to say hi". Say 'cute', not 'sexy' or 'beautiful'.
Follow up with "my name's X, what's yours?" "So X, how are you today?"

I think if your game is allright, you shouldn't really bother using the best openers, so it's subjective. I think it's an okay-ish one, and at least it shows confidence and interest.

Depends on how you say it and how you present yourself. If you go wearing your favorite gaming shirt and your half mumble "he.. hey i-I.. think you are cute!!!"like a retarted its going to sound retarded as fuck. Now if you act like brad pitt and say to the gilr the most beta shit you can come up with but hold frame look her right in the eyes she ll melt.

Work on how you say shit, how you stand up, buy good cologne, get in shape and what you is the least important thing

It's called a direct opener. Use it when you are already getting IOIs. Direct openers blow out very often but when it hooks it often hooks hard. When you aren't already getting IOIs, open with a playful indirect opener like banter or teasing or situational humor...so you don't lose the girls who would probably blow you out if you opened direct.

Just make sure NOT to start with "excuse me" or "I know this is random but..."

you're giving too much information imo with this opener. kind of a hail mary she either says yes or no to your monologue and that's it. just start chatting people up by saying "hello my name is…" and try a different approach each time. it's really hard telling you what to say because it's all about the situation and you will learn with time what's the best thing to say.

Rarely are there actually good or bad openers. There are guys out there who opened girls and did well, with freaking POKEMON lines.

It's not WHAT you say. It's HOW you say it. Confidence, etc. You could have the "best" material (whatever that is) and fail if your attitude is shit. And vice versa.

Well, if the girl is very cute and is used to having guys tell her this, then it's not going to be a very effective opener. But if the girl is less than attractive and has low self esteem, she will eat this up.

The only way this has worked for me is if I combine it with something like: "Hey, I thought you were cute. And I just wanted to see if you've got an interesting personality as well". Worked for me a couple of times, but I'm no expert. Haven't even f-closed yet hahah
