I prefer cold approaching women in bars and clubs over online dating. Here's why:

Most people who use online dating apps like Tinder and OKCupid are men. Also, sending a girl a message or trying to "match" with her is less nerve-wracking than cold approaching her in person. Because of this, any woman who uses online dating and is even slightly attractive is getting several messages/matches per day. This causes her to think "If I've got this many guys sending me messages, I must be a real catch!" I've lost count of how many times I've been using Tinder and I saw a woman who was slightly above-average in terms of looks, but her profile text stated that she's looking for a man who is tall, handsome, and has the body of a Calvin Klein underwear model.

If you develop the ability to cold approach women in public, you'll be surprised at how many will agree to dates with you. You'll be going out with girls that you used to think were "out of your league." Women are impressed by a man who has the guts to approach them. Even if she rejects you she'll probably be flattered, and tell her friends about it. She does not feel impressed by a man who just sends her a message over the internet.

Meanwhile, with online dating you can expect to be ignored a lot even by average-looking women. I'm not saying that you should never use online dating. It's good to cast a wide net, and you might get lucky and snag a date with a girl who is really attractive and has a great personality. What I am saying is that you should not rely on online dating, and you should make sure to approach women in public.

Online dating (tinder most so) is very superficial. So is real life actually, better looks will captivate her more. But the difference is in real life as long as your good enough, (not obese, good hygiene, decent looking face), you have a chance a pulling a girl who is relatively better looking than you. This is because your personality and character have a chance, and will shine when you speak to a girl in real life. She can be turned on by your confidence, your ability to be sexual when talking to a girl, your social intelligence, etc... If you have any of these things it will leak out of you and affect how you talk to girls and carry yourself, and she will like it. On tinder, there's no opportunities for attractive qualities like this to show.

I feel like I should mention that your average girl on Tinder is matched with around 30 guys at any given time as well. It's very hard to stand out.

Tinder is extremely superficial. All it takes is odd lighting in your main picture and you won't get any matches at all. I wouldn't worry too much. Change your default to a picture of you windsurfing or hugging a dozen puppies and viola all the matches you could ever want.

In person, it actually matters how people act and what they say. So take that as a sign that your "in-person game" is strong.

Online dating is like real life dating

both are going to take some serious work on your part

for online dating the main area you need to focus on is the quality of your pictures & how your text game stacks up

there are plenty of guides on this sub for both but i'll give you a quick understanding of pics

your picture need to be taken well look hire a photographer i'm pretty sure you can hire one for 50 $ no problem just look talk about how you want to look

you first picture should probably just be you in good clothing & a good picture on a busy street or natural setting

your second picture should be an abs pick women are just as shallow as men so if you don't have abs go to /r/Fitness & start working out

every picture after that should be a pic of you doing your most interesting hobby

Rock Climbing

Skating

Martial Arts

Kyaking

Playing at a Concert either DJing or in a Band (this gets you major points)

Approaching in real life will almost always yield higher results. Just being confident enough to talk to a stranger puts you way ahead of most other guys.
