Because back in the old days, an average man who goes to college and works hard is guaranteed to not be broke. Hardwork WAS the road to success.

The problem - we adapted this mindset in modern world. Internally, both men and mostly women, assume that men who are broke are simply "lazy". Nowadays, you can work as hard as a slave but if you dont excel at something, no company would ever look at you. Half the time, even people with a bachelors on engineering would sometimes end up on call centers and fastfood chains. Today, opportunity is the road to success. Hardwork just keeps the opportunity alive.

Remember what Chris Rock said… Only women, children, and dogs are loved unconditionally. A man is only loved on the condition that he has something of value to provide. And in our society, and for men, that value is monetary based.

This is how a man is valued in our society. Notice when a woman talks to her friends or family about a guy she’s dating, the first question she is asked is “so what does he do?” Right there! That’s his value. I know a lot of guys out there claim height and appearance matter, and they do to some extent, but the big thing that matters more is his career. Period. That’s how he is judged. On the flip side, after I’ve been on dates with women, how many times do you think I’ve been asked “what does she do?” by my friends or family? NEVER! She could be a doctor or could be working at Chick-fil-A, it wouldn’t matter. But for a guy, that would matter big time!

Why has society never paid attention to this? Because they don’t have to.

Unless that broke man is good looking and has potential. Other than that, men are expected to build themselves up and then marry down (responsibility and male disposability). While women are under no obligation to marry down as they consider those men to be beneath them (vanity and hypergamy).

Women will look out for their own interests first. Men are more willing to sacrifice their own self interests for the sake of others (women, country, career, etc.). We as men in general, need to do better. We should actually learn from women and look out for our own interests first as well.

I think there is more initial social pressure on women to find a man who "can provide." Because the old fashioned idea is the man is the breadwinner no matter what. We're shaking that off slowly as a society, but in the same way women are still judged more on looks, men are judged more on income.

That said, I was thinking about it and for about half the couples I know the wife makes significantly more money than the husband.

It didn't start off that way, but from talking to them nobody is complaining. In one case the guy brags that he bought their first starter home with his job out of college, but the newer bigger house they moved to was all her doing. He still works his ass off at his job but he jokes about his wife being his sugar mamma.

50 years ago that shit would have not flown though.

I think guys are learning that relationships as a team work way better than relationships where one person is the "head of household."

Women are attracted to status and power, men are attracted to looks and youth. A rich man gives a broke woman "a chance" because she's presumably physically attractive. A rich woman typically doesn't lust for young handsome men.

Because this is a fairly recent thing. it wasn't until 1964 that a woman could open a bank account without a husbands signature for instance. How are you gonna get rich when you can't even have a bank account?

Typically speaking men have by and large always been richer than women throughout history.
