I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm a 39m who has only been in one relationship that was long distance, and aside from some mutual touching with her the only sex I've ever had was sex that I paid for. (Which was horrible btw, please do not take the advice of many online that say escorts are not that bad of a choice.) In the past several years I've tried so hard to improve myself and my life. I'm actively in therapy for about 8 months now, I've tried to be more social, go out, and whatnot but I just can't make anything happen. I live in a small down, which I'm sure doesn't help. I go out to the nearby city which produces no results. I try to go to conventions and whatnot with like-hobbied people, but I never meet anyone. One thing I know that doesn't help is I can't approach strangers, women or otherwise. I've only outright asked one girl out and that was in high school. I kinda stumbled into that one relationship, and it was 95% long distance and I only met her once.

I recently tried to get to know a girl going through a divorce who came to work at my workplace. She was very hot-cold, didn't really reciprocate my energy, but I foolishly pressed on. She went back to her husband and ghosted me and all the other friends she was making at work. I tried to express interest in another girl I've had attraction to for a while via some secret admirer bullshit. After about a month and a half she left at note at the delivery point asking me to stop because she didn't wanna play the guessing game and said I was "hiding". At one point prior she left a note thanking me and said she was curious to find out who i was, so yeah, fucked that one up. I would rather have revealed myself and had her laugh in my face than be stuck with what-if's on it for the rest of my life. I say that, but nothing has changed though.

I don't know what to do. I'm not attractive, I have no good friends, most definitely no wingmen, and I feel like I've run out of options and time. I've taken in a nauseating amount of self help and dating content that I can't even apply because I don't meet anyone. I've went to therapy. I've tried to build confidence within myself, but no matter what, I just can't approach. I feel like this is something an 18 year old should know, but here I am at 39 losing hard at life and losing what little time I have left to enjoy sex and relationships. I feel like perhaps it's time I consider just giving up and letting it go, but I don't want to. But I'm stuck! I've posted to several different reddits looking for answers, but my God do most people not give a single fuck about men's problems. Most of my posts were completely ignored, but maybe I'll have some luck here. Thanks for any input.
