Gentlemen,

I’ve finally had the revelation that my inability to set boundaries is why my marriage failed. I was a doormat, blinded by sex, for 18 years. I always put her first. I stopped chasing my dreams to instead work to provide the life she wanted. She never reciprocated but I just kept going with it. I’m just now setting firm boundaries with her and while it’s pissing her off, I am feeling so much better. I feel like the man I was before her and I love it. For reference she’s still in the house. I’ve come to see that she’s just kept me around to keep getting stuff. I’m a person that likes to give, but for her it’s never enough. For instance, she’s still living in the house and has had a job for close to a year but has contributed $0 to joint expenses. She does the bare minimum with the kids. I’m proud to say that since our utilities bill is solely in her name, she has to pay it if she wants to live here. That’s all I’m asking. Well, she didn’t pay so I sent her a payment request for it on I don’t want to say the app. My therapist has told me that when dealing with a narcissist, you have to always show strength and make them feel it’s in their best interest to get out. I’m proud to finally be doing it. It’s made my mental health so much better and it’s actually helped reduce any hostile feelings towards her. Wish I had known this when I was 20.
