I want you to take one good hard look at yourself, and then ask yourself the following questions.

Realistically, how objectively attract are you?

How often have women expressed interest in you NOT within a setting where they're paid to interact with you?

If you're objectively a 6 or lower and you don't get a lot of women initially interested in you, then the chances of a barista genuinely flirting with you is going to be quite low.

On the other hand, if you're an objectively attractive guy and you get a lot of women who are interested in you, then there is a chance that the barista is genuinely attracted to you.

So take one good hard look at yourself, and then make the judgement call.

Look at it this way, if the only women that flirt with you are baristas or if from all the women that you meet baristas flirt significantly way more with you on average than women doing any other type of profession that has nothing to do with customer service, then they are most likely just trying to get nice tips.

All service workers are trying to get tips at all times, but the single ones are still looking for guys like any other girl.

To decipher if she also wants your steak tip or just flirting for monetary tip, u just need to look for the tells.

If she is just flirting to be friendly and fulfill her duty, it's going to flow well like she does it everyday because...she does.

Former male barista here. I worked at a high traffic coffee shop for over a year in hopes to meet women. I’m definitely attractive but was never seeing any hints of being flirted with. So I brought it up to the women on staff who were all plenty beautiful and asked if it’s just me. A sigh of relief washed over them and they said they didn’t want to bring it up but none of them felt they had been flirted with either and were feeling bummed out “aren’t we all sexy baristas?! Shouldn’t we be getting asked what we are up to this weekend?!” Was the sentiment. So it was unanimous among staff that we all felt under flirted with. Flirting is tough if you don’t have a cool accent but I can assure you that while yes flirting for tips is a thing, make strong eye contact to see how the barista is looking at you. And while you’re in line, if we treat you a little differently than some of the others, chances are we (baristas) want to find out your insta and are curious. You don’t need amazing banter, just read the room, don’t pronounce it “expresso” like a fucking dumb ass and you should be fine.

P.s. bring a book to read, baristas tend to roam and sweep under tables and if your vibing with that barista it’s the perfect time to distract them from busy work and start a convo. Hope that clears it up at least a little.
