Matchmaking of any kind is a humiliation ritual, certainly in the modern world.

It was okay in the 17th century or what have you, but today you're talking about the dregs who didn't successfully get matched at work, school, bars, clubs, or in the IG/Tinder/[insert social media/dating online meat market here]. The very bottom of the barrel, for both sexes.

The movie is called “Materialists” for a reason. I don’t think the film is saying “this is awesome behavior!” wrt the main characters.

I just hate it when guys get mad because I'm taller than they are. I don't lie about my height. I also only wear flats. When a guy tells me I'm actually 6'1"... look, it's not my job to lie to make you feel better.

It’s still so weird to me how when it comes to aesthetics, height is rated higher than a lean athletic body, blue eyes and an attractive face. A lot of these tall men I see women with aren’t even attractive. Dudes being 6’2” with horse teeth and a face that looks like a foot.

I want to see them go full Indian matchmaking with these western platforms. The guy gets evaluated with all the same criteria, but the girl has information about her weight, skin color, and ability to cook added.

I thought in the movie the rich guy was very much into her. He did the initial pursuing and courting . He kind of even chased because she wasn’t initially interested .

She chose the very poor man at the end too
