I wonder what they would've said at the end of the War of the Triple Alliance.

For the unfamiliar, that was a war that broke out when a political leader of middling (but existing) diplomatic skills became convinced he was a genius and interfered in a border dispute between two nations that had nothing to do with him and turned a minor brush war into an apocalyptic conflagration that caused massive death and devastation to basically every player involved, setting the stage for the geopolitical upheaval that would go on to define the next century of the continent's history. So like Woodrow Wilson, but with better fashion sense.

Take a look at a map of south America. Note the relative sizes of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. Take a guess as to which of those nations was NOT in the aforementioned alliance. Yeah. It's almost impressive the beating the Alliance forces (and economies) took, given the disparity in numbers and power they had.

Paraguay lost about half its population in the war, and for years afterwards was known as "the land of women", because men made up only about 12% of the population. The country became the economic black hole of South America, and it was STILL not enough for Sally Miller Gearheart.

This is what the women and the men at the top want.

They see their man long enough to have a kid or two, which they want, and then they get his paycheck sent to them every couple of weeks. Then when he dies in war, the state takes care of them forever and they don't have to work.

The men get chewed on until they die, the women reap the benefits, the few men at the very top get their pick of whatever women they want. Men that play along to to war and die. Men who don't play along get sent to hard labor camps, which are basically industrial farms or mines.

On one hand, the male disposability, but on the other, not like the Russian women really care that much. Russian society is by and large a death cult, suffering is equated to heroism and hardships are glorified, instead of seen as a reason to change anything, and your life isn't worth jackshit.

If you have seen the video clips of Russian mother whose son was killed in Ukraine and bought a Lada for the compensation money that they received from the state, it kinda does make sense, no matter how fucked up it is. In Russia, the sons and husbands would end up becoming alcoholics and maybe perhaps dying in a drunken fight, so in their minds it's better to send them to war, which would bring some money for the struggling family and they could claim state benefits.

And it's not like the families (or even the state) really are waiting for them to come back. Because there's close to no opportunities, so essentially if they came back they would be just another mouth to feed and a potential alcoholic problem. But if they die, they can be cast as heroes to the Motherland. Kinda same as in USSR post-WWII, when the Red Army soldiers returning from PoW camps were regarded as potential traitors, but the fallen made for great propaganda value.

Russian soldiers are more valuable to the country and their fellow countrymen when they are dead. They are treated like the lowest scum up until the moment they die. After their death, they are called heroes and martyrs. To a large degree, this applies to their families, too. /.../ Soldiers coming home in plastic bags are heroes; those who come back alive are seen as a burden, future alcoholics, extra mouths to feed. Expecting that mounting casualties can convince Russian families to change things is absurd. Their families obviously don't want them back. That is if they have families. At best, your typical Russian soldier has a single mom and an ex-wife with children from two husbands. Maybe one of them even talks to him, but likely not.

And I kid you not, actually a Russian mom had no qualms with sending her son to war, because "she had one more son".

Of course I support mobilisation. It's because I raised men, not... Hoo boy.

There's a theory that the reason Russian women are so beautiful is because of the historical attrition of men from war. For thousands of years Russia has always had wars.

Most of the young men never came back from these wars; those that survived had their pick of the litter. Rinse and repeat for centuries and certain trends emerge.

These short videos were shot in bigger cities like Moscow or St. Petersburg. Men from these cities are not being sent to war. It's mostly men from smaller town and villages from eastern Russia that are being recruited.

The reason you see mostly women in cafes and window shopping is that men are at work.

This is why polygamy was so common in ancient times. All the men were killed in war so if women wanted a husband and kids and protection then they had to share a husband.

As incredibly sad as this is, every country with an excess of women due to war or other factors, massively bounces back with abundance and prosperity, throughout history.

We have no period in time where an excess of men has led to anything but despair, but increases in gender imbalance favoring women has always led to roaring prosperity. Post-war female surpluses often align with peace, happiness (via family formation), and childbirth booms.

Research consistently shows that imbalanced sex ratios have significant effects on society, often rooted in evolutionary psychology and sociology.

The natural human sex ratio at birth is slightly male-biased (about 107 males per 100 females), but cultural practices like son preference, female infanticide, or war can skew it.

When ratios become heavily male-biased (eg 120+ males per 100 females, as seen in parts of modern China and India due to sex-selective abortions), societies face increased risks of violence and conflict, the data absolutely supports this.

This is attributed to "bare branches culture " young, low-status, unmarried men who are damn fustrated by limited opportunities, and are more prone to risky behaviors, crime, and aggression.

Overall things will be pretty good for both nations in 5 to 10 years and the conspiracy theorist hiding on the back corner of my mind makes me think this was what they wanted.

It's a crazy thing to say in a men's rights subreddit but if the gender birth ratio was flipped we would be way better off and have more equality. Women due to a greater share of the collective voice and men due to their rarity and increased respect. Right now women are rare, and with genetics giving them only about 20 to 35 years of fertility they absolutely control the narrative despite their being more pissed off and disenfranchised "throw away" men.

Through all of history men were "rare" due to only alphas surviving conflict and the sexual dimorphism has left us in this state.

What would actually improve things for men worldwide would be a greater female birth rate overall, it's crazy to say. It would change the sexual market value back to normal and equalize the sexes again without causing issues for women's rights.

Men definitely have it harder in that situation. But are you suggesting women should be drafted as well? A lot of people here are critical of feminist positions, yet what you’re proposing would actually align with them in practice.

I don’t think pushing for more equality will fix the issues that it has already created.
