I’m a 9-year married dad in Georgia, and my wife wants a divorce. I don’t.

We did counseling. I fought for restoration. I owned my shortcomings. I was willing to do the work. She’s emotionally done and doesn’t want to try anymore.

We have daughters together. They’re my world. I’ve been as involved as I could be while working full time. She’s always been more hands-on, but I’ve never been absent. I’m fighting for 50/50 because I believe my girls need both of us.

The hardest part isn’t even the legal side — it’s feeling like the last 9 years meant something different to me than they did to her. I moved to Georgia to build a life with her. Her roots are here. Her community is here. Mine aren’t. Now I’m separated, far from my family, trying to figure out what rebuilding looks like.

I retained an attorney to protect myself and my ability to see my daughters. It’s a battle I never wanted, but I’m not going to be careless with my role as their dad.

Some days I’m angry. Some days I’m crushed. Most days I’m just trying to become the kind of man and father my girls can respect, even in this.

If you’ve been the spouse who didn’t want the divorce — how did you move forward without becoming bitter? How did you rebuild when you didn’t choose this?
