I woke up one day and reached for help at a breaking point. I realized home was not ok

I also realized if my kids were living that life as adults I wouldn't be ok with it. So I had to change it

Getting out of a dysfunctional marriage isn't giving up on your kids. They're much better off without that. Sucking it up at home just for the kids rarely works. What kind of example would you be setting for your kids like that?

I read through your replies, you are definitely pompous and kind of a prick. Your first paragraph (minus the style of writing, refer to pompous) was on point but then... you nosed dived. If they have made it to court, it means they did not give up. It means they fought.

The majority that come here are ruminating on the effects to their kids and struggling to move forward from day to day. Just because their posts aren't an ode to the negative impacts to their kids does not mean it isn't a theme that replays over and over in their heads. Besides that, those that are posting about the financial impact are indirectly speaking on the negative impact to their children.

In summary, few people "allow" a judge to decide. It reaches a point where you and your ex cannot find a middle ground and are forced to accept a judges decision, kinda like what you are currently going through.

There’s pretty much no where safe on Reddit for an unanimous opinion. I agree with you more than disagree. American divorce is a super experimental concept. Especially with judges. They essentially have more power than the president.

You can’t curse out your parents in public is some countries, or the ruler. You can’t curse out a judge in court. But you can use profanity when talking to anyone, anywhere else.

Most people are sheep, and accept everything.

I will always find it incredible how many people go down the road of completely abdicating and essentially giving up entirely the rights to raise and care for their kids insomuch that it is handed over to a stranger in a robe.

Have you seen the general populace? Have you actually sat in on two weeks of hearing after hearing in family court?

Drug addicts. Alcohol addicts. Gambling addicts. Physical abusers. And yes, even child molesters, both male and female. These are only the worst of the worst the courts have to deal with. Then you have your generalized total shit parent or parents who don't give a damn about their kids, or each other, with constant fighting and assaults because the adults in the house have a lower IQ than the grade schoolers.

This is why we need the "stranger in a robe." There are a metric fuckton of truly terrible parents out there. Two people who banged, and don't give a flying F about their offspring. This is the truth. Go visit family court for two weeks. Juvenile Hall for two days. You'll see. Both are bursting at the seams with uber shit "parenting."

Seems like the operative words here most are misinterpreting - “giving up”

I’m referring to the walk away spouses that give up on their family in turn giving up the ability to have decisions about their kids be made between the parents instead of a stranger in a robe.

You claim to have gone through a terrible divorce but then come here with this nonsense position that so many men are just giving up their rights.

That couldn’t be further from the truth of what actually happens in divorce proceedings! In every single case I’ve seen the father has no damn choice. The judge has forced the father to accept the decision they made or risk jail/prison.

So like the others have said, you sound stupid and very insensitive to us fathers who have and continue to fight for our rights as parents against a corrupt and biased system that is the family/divorce court.

You should consider deleting this post and removing yourself from this subreddit.

What point are you trying to make here? That people should stay in a bad marriage for the sake of the kids?

I doubt your attitude is going to get much sympathy here. Did you go through a divorce yourself or are you just out to insult other people?

Careful. You're assuming a lot here. Abuse, toxic environments, narcissism, addiction, and any number of other factors may be at play.

For me and my children, this divorce is really bad. That's not the case for everyone.
