Here is the [backstory.] (https://www.reddit.com/r/askMRP/comments/4914h7/first_mate_threatening_to_jump_off/) Summary: Wife threatened to jump ship, I gave her a choice--leave now or wait until November so that we can give an honest effort at fixing our marriage.

She decided to stay until November. 10 days later, she pulls the I want to leave card, again. My reaction was better, meaning I was visibly less angry, but I still engaged way too much. This watch what she does, not what she says is finally sinking in.

My #1 priority right now is to give my son the best environment for him. According to many statistics, this is a traditional family unit. So my priority is to create a healthy marriage with my wife, not for her, but for my mission and my son.

I am improving. I'm 6 weeks into StrongLifts, and visibly stronger, buffer. 175cm, 75kg. I am moving forward with a side business project that has earned a nice chunk of change so far. I am leading my improv group. I am reading WISNIFG. I started a NMMNG group that meets bi-monthly. As suggested by /u/cj_aubrey, I am tracking my anger and other negative emotions to get a better grip on my emotional state. The point is, I'm taking steps to be the best man I can be.

But she still wants to leave.

The problem? You guessed it. Another man. If you read my backstory, you'll see that the initial I-want-to-leave conversation was stimulated by another man in the picture. As far as I know, it was not physical (and I did my due diligence), but emotional. Since then, he has not been on the radar in any channel that I am able to monitor.

During this latest episode, she brought up how much I've changed in a short time. I told her yes, and it's interesting that she still wants to leave even though she has no steady job and she knows it will not be the best for our son. Basically, there's no good reason I could see, and certainly not with such urgency. It makes me think there's someone on the side. And she said that yes, she still 'daydreams' about the other guy.

At this point, I have no evidence that it's been anything other than that or anything else with anyone else. Like I said, all known channels are monitored.

I take responsibility for being a drunk captain and bringing us to this situation. I also take responsibility for doing whatever I can to fix it, not for her, but for my mission, which is to be the best father I can be and give my son the best possible life.

Saturday, she moved to the guest room upstairs. She says in a month, we can reassess who will move where. I calmly told her that me and my son aren't going anywhere. I know I should have STFU. I'm not ready for A&A when things are so heavy.

So according to her words, I have a month to become attractive enough to stimulate some tingles. I am following classic MRP strategy--lifting, reading, improving self. My biggest Achilles heel is STFU and maintaining frame. To help, I am repeating STFU to myself in my head a lot. Not just for her, but in all my interactions. I know that this sounds like I'm doing it for her, and maybe to a small degree I am, but I feel confident to say the lion's share of this is for me and my son.

Any other tips or tactics on how to better maintain frame?

Assuming the other guy is just in her daydreams, how to I combat that? Is the answer anything other than 'be attractive, don't be unattractive'? And speaking of 'don't be unattractive', that means always be at my best when not alone, right?

Also, I know that the leverage point is being willing to walk away. And right now, I'm not. If she leaves, it's on her, not me. After 6-12 months (married 9 years in April) with no improvement, yes, I'll be ready, but I genuinely want to offer my best first so that I can walk away as regret-free as possible. Until I have a few solid months under my belt of being a good Captain, I can't in good faith abandon the chances of giving my son an opportunity at the optimal condition.
