This comes back to the essence of the tradeoff that is marriage.

All the bullshit of romance is just that, it's bullshit meant to keep you emotionally attached well beyond the dictates of reason and biological attraction. At its core though, marriage is a tradeoff. It's a business deal. Before romanticism was invented, people understood this.

Here's the deal:

Women absolutely need men for their basic survival, health and well-being. Without men, they will die. Men OTOH, only need women for sex, children and some help around the house because she's there anyway.

Therefore, the tradeoff of marriage is thus:

Women provide exclusive and ongoing sexual access. They birthe and help raise the children. Keep the house clean and keep him company.

In exchange for this, the man offers a lifetime of protection and provision to her.

This tradeoff isn't equal by any stretch of the imagination. The man gives the woman much more than the woman gives to the man. By several orders of magnitude more.

Why is this important?

Because anything she does to diminish her marriage value, will make her less worthy of a good man. When she wakes up and realizes that there are no good men left, that's her fault!

If she has sex with other men, she's no longer offering exclusive sexual access. She's therefore unworthy of your exclusive financial commitment.

If she wants an open relationship, she's looking for a better man. She is no longer worthy of any commitment from any man, ever.

Doesn't matter if this becomes acceptable by society or not. In a reciprocal relationship, each partner contributes something valuable to the other. This is the basis of the tradeoff. This woman destroyed all her value. She may be the one walking away now, but this party will come to an end pretty quickly.
