I think the line is where they're contractually obligated and financially compensated for their labor, and they're free to rescind their labor at any time (relatively.) You can't walk up to a doctor on the street and demand a physical, and you can't demand sex, even from a prostitute. You don't get to lay claim to anyone's labor. You are entitled to enter agreements in which they provide labor, and they are within their right not to enter those agreements. If that's "entitlement to their labor" the phrase seems to be rendered pretty meaningless.

It is not taxation on their labor, it is taxation on the resources they get in exchange for their labor (money). If you're a construction worker, the state does not force you to spend x hours a year building kindergardens, prisons, or roads, it forces you to pay x amount of the money you get in exchange for building private and/or public property.

You can choose not to work for money and live autonomously like growing your own food and having livestock (without selling any of it), then you don't have to pay an income taxe. You might still have to pay property taxe but, as the word suggests, that is a taxe on your property, not your labor (and if you have no income, idk if you even have to pay that). The government won't come knocking and demand you get a sallaried job because they “own your labor“.

If the state were entitled to your labor for social programs, they would dictate that you physically spend a certain amount of time whiping old people's butts, work in a soup kitchen or work on a field that feeds single moms and their children. Instead they tax your income to then in turn pay other people to do those things.

And I would draw the line exactly there - the state can impose taxes on people's resources/ property, not on their bodies.

Similarly your child or (ex-) wife might be entitled to some of your resources but your wife can't force you to change the tires of her car or eat her out and your child can't force you to regularly spend time with them, help with their homework, drive them to soccer practice, or if you don't have custody even physically feed them and change their diapers.

Edit: an equivalent for sex would be taxing people's income to pay for prostitutes and mental health professionals for incels for example. At the same time said prostitutes, assuming in this scenario they are legitimate employees or self-employed, would have the choice to change careers or not take a certain client, just like the people paid for all other social services today.

Typically when people refer to "entitlement" to an individual's body as in they feel "entitled" to sex or to touch them etc. What this is describing is an attitude that person has where they think they "deserve" someone's attention, affection, sex, time etc. For example: there is people who think it is an injustice others are not having sex with them and they have this sort of attitude about it or victim complex about it that comes off as "entitled".

Someone feeling like another individual has to use their body to work for them, and that person is acting like it is an injustice, or it is unfair "how could you do this" etc. It is almost the exact same thing. There really is no "ethical line" to be drawn here. People who act "entitled" are awful to be around and will typically get called out on it anyway.

Comparing sexual entitlement to tax entitlements is a pretty weak argument. Its only legit if you’ve never been supported by someone else’s tax dollars. Did you go to public school? Do you drive on public roads? Do you ride public transport? Do you own a house and claim a mortgage interest deduction? Ever used a library or sued someone in court? The idea is that we all pay into a system that is there for us when we need it. And you will need it someday (Medicare and SS account for half of entitlement spending).

Taxes pay for the things we need (and admittedly some we don’t like Trump’s trips to mar a lago and Carson’s $30K office redecoration). This has nothing to do with violating someones bodily autonomy. I owe taxes to pay for the safe, clean society I benefit from. I don’t owe anyone sex.

That's like saying because the government can tax you I can levy my own tax on you as well and the two are equally valid.

I also can't relate to the other part about social programs. Entitlement there is between society/government and an individual. It's the government's job to satisfy the entitlement and (at least in my perspective) the government also represents that individual. So the entitlement is an agreement between you and yourself to some extent. I can't follow how that's even comparable to relationships between individuals.

This feels like a simplistic view of how people make money. As if a person picks 10 bananas and the government takes 4 to give to people too lazy to claim a tree.

In reality, employees do the labor while managers and investors get most of the money due to things like market power and other market inefficiencies. Taxes exists as a market correction.

This is an extremely flawed train of logic

The government chooses which programs to allocate the funding it elects, there is no law mandating that individuals are entitled directly to government revenue. Basically, it's not correct to claim one is entitled to the IRS's money.

Imagine if every entry job you were applying for required 3 years experience, an 8 year degree, a solid plan for your future, and to work overtime for free and maybe they'll hire you.

There's a point where you go "hey, is this effort I'm earnestly putting into this going to pay off, or am I just being taken advantage of by someone?" And then most times, it's the latter, and you get pissed because that's a shitty thing to do.

That story is probably not uncommon for people seeking jobs, but that story also describes the attitude of the modern woman, the gatekeeper to sex.

Call it entitled if you want, but there's a point where the effort you put into trying to show these people that you're earnestly trying to do the right thing by them turns into the absolute recognition that you are being taken advantage of by people in a position of power, and it's socially acceptable for them to shit all over you if you point out how shitty they're being. And it's not wrong.
