Concur.

I mean I doubt how much utility this sub really has anyway considering the inability to see different viewpoints on display here but there are definitely a lot of cases of 'playing the man not the ball'.

A lot of people, what they like to do is insert their own personal anecdotes into their posts, use themselves as examples of what "X" group is like or even post about certain topics to the point of ad nauseum, which again, makes it about them at times.

For example: If some male user on here starts saying that he speaks for all men, and keeps using a sort of appeal to authority argument on his status of as a man, I think it is perfectly reasonable to attack the person and attempt to dismiss. I really, truly believe that a lot of the males using this subreddit do not speak for all males, and I actually think they are a bad example of how the majority of males think.

When users on here make arguments similar to "I do not like marriage, so no one should get married", they are creating a huge incentive to be attacked, you can tell a lot of people will do this. Look at the involuntary celibacy posts: The posts will usually start fairly in-personal, then when you begin to reply, the OP starts to make it about him, it will usually go like this.

Electra: Well being 5'7" is not that bad

IncelAccount2: I am 5'7" and females do not like me

When people on here start stating personal opinions, preferences, use themselves as an authority and make the arguments about them, they might just get attacked.

i don’t see comments like that enough to bother me, but you could always either report or ignore them. pretty sure most people do one of those things and move on.

A dumb reply often comes after a blanket statement. The solution is not to make sweeping, blanket statements about a gender.

Qualitative evaluations require a fuck ton of education and work.

Quantitative evaluations require very little understanding or thought.

Also, amused mastery is fun on those that aren't here for "debate". Their position, given their responses opens themselves up to be dismissed.

And insult can tell you if they have any "frame" whatsoever, which is good at seeing if they can participate in a qualitative debate rather than a quantitate "dumb" response.

Vetting is a useful skill.

I agree. But every time I go deeper and try to convey a thought at a higher level someone simply says I'm wrong for being wrong. When I counter it's along the lines of subtle name calling. Nothing is actually productive. But that's the point of this sub.

In terms of debate, this is like one step above calling someones mom fat. It's a quick, cheap attempt to dismiss a poster and all their opinions and get in an insult while you're at it. Very common here.

Some people don't come here for debate. They come her to reinforce their own notions/worldviews so that they remain secure in their minds. What did you expect?

Does it matter? Most of TRP talking points are either easily refutable and/or there is no argument to be made against them because their whole mindset/worldview is shrouded in narcissism and a lack of empathy.

It's just typical deflection. In your first example it's just the poster wanting to feel superior and above the behaviour you're describing. In the second example it's just a straight up circlejerky ad hom.

I agree that these are worthless responses that don't belong on a debate sub. Adds nothing to the discussion.

The only way to limit the slapfights is to not engage. Easier said than done.

We don't need any more rules, we just need the existing ones to be properly enforced. And no that doesn't mean nuking everything with the least bit of snark, but cutting off circlejerks and slapfights where there isn't even the pretense of a good faith debate/discussion.

I see a lot of promising topics turn almost immediately into 40 tangent comment debates about fat girls or this girls or that girls. Most posters are necessarily mediocre so they have stupid script discussions with excited fingers. Morons just jump on trigger words and bury any good discussion.

Also why dont TRP heavier hitters come check in? I am fond of pointing out the actual socially repulsive consequences and vibes of RP strategy and then idiots and dullards just create monstrous straw men caricatures that offer no challenge. A common refrain is that they do not speak for TRP in general- where's ol Rollo and shit? Someone that dedicates their fingertips to RP evangelism should be making a better effort to address these challenges and stop leaving it to the fanboi jerkoff ones to be the face of something that they claim is helpful and good.
