And I agree that the truth is important, but it is always going to be beset on all sides from ideological thinking. All ideological thinking is unproductive/counter-productive (I fucking hate all the moralizing that happens regarding the topic of human behavior even as I understand it's pervasiveness) when it comes to understanding the truth, but some forms are worse than others

OP, I mostly agree with you. I agree with maybe 60 - 70% of TRP ideas, I think they are very useful in western society. However, among the very healthy mindsets (IMO) found on TRP, there is also a lot of binary thinking, venting, and ideological extremism. As with anything, take the good and ignore the bad.

I often think many people go extreme on TRP as a way to "shock" or eliminate all of the blue pill and societal programming out of them. Often, going so far to one ideological extreme (after being the opposite all your life) is a way to eventually end up somewhere in the middle once your brain adjusts. As I've said before, TRP is a useful and moderately accurate framework, use it, but don't be so ideologically committed that it clouds your judgement of the diversity of situations and people in this world.

You do know TRP describes itself as a toolbox and a "TRP culture" is hard to grasp, right?
You have to distill what you meant by that for us to evaluate your "critique". If you abide from doing that, you're left with three statements that I evaluate as the following:

1 - True. People don't understand it. People face cognitive hardships to accept randomness, I guess it stems from there. Still, not that hard to grasp. As you said, "novels".
2 - False. Dialectically false. If you have two conflicting propositions over the same subject either one of them is wrong, or both are. Accepting "real world" and "each case is unique" pushes you away from a working model. Although psychology isn't developed with Karl Popper's concept of science (observation, modeling and repetition), evolutionary psychology is, and this should allow you to use dialectics.
Whether people there do this or not is ANOTHER thing. And they don't seem to be too fond of it. But sometimes they do.
3 - Nearly unfalsifiable the way you phrased. This might be discussed but I'm skeptical about the demographic and whether they suffered the worst types, or any sort at all.
Many of the models TRP provide are for otherwise non explained phenomenons, and the very existence of such models angers some people. Let alone TRP's habit of making maxims and its usage of an external enemy on its first welcome sign.

These are valid criticisms. But OP, what did you expect would happen when you criticise them on their sub? Look at what happens to people who go to a feminist sub and try to criticise them. They get banned and no one bats an eyelid. Even if it brought discussion and debate, that is not what they desire on their sub. It is like going to a big butts porn sub and saying "guys, the porn is awesome. Really it is. But can we get some more flat butts up in here to balance things out? Not every woman has a fat ass and some are still beautiful..."

Sure, but that is not what the sub is for. When the mods spot it, they will remove it. You could have brought that discussion to PPD where there is place for your views. It is like going to a conservative church and saying a gay priest would be great for diversity. It is a good idea in theory, but context! Know your audience. Criticising them for taking down your post after the fact comes across as pretty petty.

Take note of TRP moderators comments below, I find the way they insulate their community from opposition quite amusing.

See what I mean? This is a pretty high handed remark to make. "They won't change for me so I will go somewhere where my ideas are appreciated! Now look at them squirm while they attempt to justify treating me that way!" I doubt you are the first nor will you be the last. Complaining that they cannot handle criticism well when you cannot accept their reasons for deleting your post is quite hypocritical. Or are your criticisms somehow magically beyond reproach?

Ok. I still don't know what you are trying to say. I think most people know that TRP is an echo chamber tightly moderated and rarely open for discussion. It is the same as TBP in that regard. However it isn't a bad thing. You don't have to frequent either, that is why they will never really go supernova. They lack the nuance that you mentioned. One doesn't even have to add value there. Just recite all the core TRP tenants as if it is the Quran. Do it enough and you get your 72 virgins I.E. EC status. The only place (that is remotely relevant to the whole discussion) where you can really discuss things is PPD. Also the reason why I give TBP slack in that regard is that it isn't trying to help anyone. They are just ridiculing TRPers. They are the enemy you know, while TRP is just covertly enforcing certain bad behaviors. Add in some aspies and you have a grand old time.

A lot of people resort to flaky reasoning grounded in evolutionary psychological concepts that they clearly don't understand. Evolution isn't nearly as simple as most people ignorantly assume when they first grasp the fundamentals of it. It requires quite a nuanced understanding that can only really be obtained by reading real scientific literature (i.e. textbooks written by people with PhD's, research articles, scientific novels, etc.). I've taken university level classes in evolution and psychology, read Dawkins books, etc., and I wouldn't offer overly prescriptive advice on the basis of some shallow understanding of evolution (and psychology which is also quite complex).

Absolutely agree with you there. Even in the red pill - a sub that prides itself upon pursuing the truth - people succumb to easy explanations that fit their narrative. I have seen this so often that I attribute it to human nature by now, some kind of defense mechanism. Perhaps we even evolved that way ... could be wrong though.

First off, scientific novels? What the hell am I gonna gain in terms of real scientific understanding from reading Attack on Chewbacca's Taint: A Star Wars Novel? The Ferengi Cycle II: The Ferengi Paradox? But seriously, what is a scientific novel? How am I going to understand science based on a novel, which is by definition some made up story?

Where was I going with this, shit. Oh right, you rely overmuch on "experts". Your point on offering prescriptive advice is well taken, but sometimes you just feel your way through a situation and know, generally, how it goes. For instance, I wouldn't look to a physicist to fix a toilet, someone with supreme theoretical knowledge of how water flows. I would look to a fucking plumber, who knows that X knob does Y thing and that it works to fix the toilet so we can all shit and move on with our lives. I do agree with you that a lot of people on TRP sperg out with the rules and go on some Extended Universe Marvel vs. Capcom Lex Luthor vs. Superman Firefly vs. SeaQuest DSV shit, like for instance what in the theoretical fuck is a "Gamma male", but at the end of the day TRP is the plumber. That's the value of TRP's canonical core. It gives you the practical knowledge so you can fix the thing and get your basic biological needs met (ie during the time while this jackass, Asperger's-positive theoretician was writing Considerations in Toilet Design: A Proposal the plumber already fixed my toilet and I took 3 shits).

2 - Welcome to Reddit. Again, this is the realm of spergs. These are not logical people you're dealing with, OP. They're roleplaying as alpha Chads in their little clubhouses and egging each other on in an echo chamber.

Some people would allege that this is reality, that this is society in the hyper-partisan fake news era, but in fact most people are pretty reasonable. Most people in that mob are rather reasonable and considerate. You just get the loudest possible voice saying something in the most succint manner possible, and it sounds good goddammit so let's give all our upvotes to that guy. The actual thought of the individual TRPer has much more substance to it than catchy generalizations like "Alpha Fux, Beta Bucks", but we go with that since we broadly agree with it and, again, it's catchy.

3 - Now here's the pandering to the community that makes for a classic TRP post. Make just this into a TRP post and you'd get Reddit gold. The environment on there can be compared to places like /r/NoFap. A lot of feel-good bullshit surrounding a shiny kernel of nutrition. Something like the proverbial piece of shit with a little corn in it.

1) You come off as snobby.
2) A lot of concepts on TRP are on a spectrum, and there are sizeable minorities who go this way or that on particular topics. 3) My take on the constituency is you have young (teenage or 20-something) incels, bitter divorcees and old goat / observers like me. The first two are bitter and raging and in the anger phase; however the thought leaders are older, with some experience, and measured and nuanced views about things - whether you agree with them or not.

I've been banned from TRP and PPD here and there. I have been banned from ROK. Badge of honour: I think for myself.
