This is a bad argument that inherently assumes All Feminists Are Like That and any feminist that doesn't fall in line with those views can't be a True Feminist.

Gone Girl was also written by a self-identified feminist woman, but many other feminists have nevertheless attacked her for her work.

I would go so far as to agree some feminists do not buy into WaW and some may even actively oppose it. However, if the the most vocal feminists either act like it's a good thing or simply overlook the issue completely, you can hardly claim feminism as a whole takes that former position.

Because it addresses many feminist talking points. Also, no one argues that feminists only want to vilify men, just that many do vilify men.

In any case, feminism is much bigger than the opinions of a few movie critics. The feminist ideology is based on feminism's patriarchy theory, which is the view that men have been and are the oppressors of women. How does that not vilify men?

It's fiction.

It's an escape from real life. In real life, deleterious mutations that cause a person to behave violently are vastly more likely to appear in anybody with only one X chromosome, than somebody with two.

As a result, violent women are outnumbered by violent men by an order of magnitude. That's just how biology has always worked.

In popular fiction, we favor stories that are dramatically unlike real life. We favor characters with supernatural powers.

Even in stories where they decide not to allow characters to violate the laws of physics, we tend to favor stories that are dissimilar to real life.

Is the protagonist being threatened with violence by an antagonist? Make the antagonist a woman, or (think of 70s horror movie the Omen) a child.

Stop insisting that every artwork have political implications. People consume entertainment because they want to stop thinking and get lost in an imaginary world where things work differently than reality.

Having not seen the movie, I assume it still reinforces the idea that the world is a dangerous place for women and society needs to protect women more.

You'd probably get some positive feminist response for a male-on-male victimization (describing the problem of entitled men and that even men can be hurt by it in some cases).

I'd be a quite surprised by positive feminist responses to a movie depicting a woman victimizing a man though.

If feminists want to uphold the image that women are wonderful and that men are the monsters then why do they like a movie that shows the dark side of women?

I've often wondered this but not about feminism, but about people and social orders in general. There appears to be this phenomenon (don't know if there's a word for it) where once someone reaches a certain level of power, influence and independence, their true motives are revealed.

One example of this is "fuck you money", where the person has reached a level of financial independence that they can afford to speak their mind and not be so politically correct.

It's been said numerous times by anti-feminists: Third-wave feminism is not about equality, but about female supremacy. It uses second-wave, "true equality" feminists as its mask to tell the world "Feminism is about equality", and using women-pleasing beta males to push its anti-male message that practically every women is being raped, beaten or disadvantaged, until it reaches a point where it can remove its mask and say "Fuck you men".

Maybe it does this to taunt the world, or to publicly bask in the glory of its victories, but it's not enough to stay low and keep the lie going. At some point the deceiver and manipulator wants to remove the mask and say "This is the real me."

"The Neon Demon" is a visually stunning movie made by Nicolas Winding Refn who also made Bronson and Drive. It's about a beautiful young chick that tries to make it big in the modeling business.

I watched that movie. I loved it. It had Keanu Reeves playing the role of a creepy pedo lol.

Society doesn't put pressure on women to be beautiful. Women ARE society. That women feel like they have to be beautiful only shows how narcissistic they are. Its a tough game. They are all aiming for chad. So they do what it takes to get chad. Women put so much pressure on themselves to be attractive because they all have their eyes only set on chad.

Most dudes would fuck a skinny, fat, ugly chick, so why would women be pressured to be beautiful if they weren't aiming for only chad?

watching that scene was fascinating, i could tell i was supposed to be having "feelings" about the "plight" of this poor model but i was not only left completely cold and indifferent, it was completely off, phony, hieratic, unrealistic seeming, cold, slick, inhuman, false, and not right. art has so completely become divorced from humanity at this point, i hope another 70s style realism revolution comes one day, but i doubt it

They like it so that they can say "see, we liked that one movie, you can't accuse us of vilifying men". It's manipulation.

At the end of the day, the way women behave is more important than what movies they like. And the way they behave indicates that they vilify men.

Good question. One might ask the same question regarding feminists and their claims that women can be just as "strong" and "independent" as men, yet go gaga over "50 Shades of Grey" and stuff like that. On the other hand, for those feminists who approve of imagery which shows women as "strong" and "independent" (even if it shows their dark side), that would at least be consistent with their overall position.
