Rodgers was no martyr. He inflicted an incredible amount of damage on incels' reputation. He made things a hell of a lot worse for incels, not better.

Most people who aren't on Reddit or various other places don't know what Incels are. So I doubt that Rodger is at all thought of in that way by the vast majority of people who don't delve into these corners of the internet. Was Incel ever mentioned on any new story ever during the coverage of his crimes? Because I don't recall it. But my memory isn't always the best for things like this.

Incels had a reputation for whining and self-pity before Elliot Rodgers. Afterwards, people starting assuming that maybe a few incels were spree-killers waiting to snap. But I don't think it was a serious worry for most people, because one mentally ill person isn't a pattern.

But some of the posts that the moderators have been swiftly removing from this thread are terrifying, and they make me think that Elliot Rodgers was not an isolated nut, but a genuine representative of a real trend on "incel" forums.

Please. Get help now. Talk to a mental health professional.

Well, he was definitely not a martyr, and he was certainly no hero. I don't think he damaged the reputation of incels though.

However, another idea is he essentially made problems worse, because he exacerbated the character that men will turn into violent serial killers when denied sex, and thus led to more mockery and insults of incels.

This doesn't make any sense. If people are afraid that incels will turn into violent serial killers when denied sex, why would anyone want to provoke them further with mockery and insults?

As a whole, how do you believe Elliott Rodger effected society's view of incels and their struggles?

Not much. In most cases of mass murder like that, the primary focus tends to be on how it happened and the kind(s) of weapon used, which invariably leads to arguments over gun control.

It's rare that very many people will discuss the reasons why, since the assumption is that the perpetrator is/was mentally ill and had no rational reason for committing murder. But that also leads to discussions about the funding and availability of mental health programs (and the stigmas attached to mental illness).

From the incels I've spoken to, he's damaged their reputation. PUAhate had to change their name to Sluthate. Moreover, some people focus on his mixed race roots and point to the tragic mulatto idea, which is a stereotype.

Most chapters have a minimum GPA requirement of a 2.5 or higher for initial membership as well as continuing active membership. Typically the average GPA for new members, as well as active members, exceeds the all-campus undergraduate average.

He didn't help anything or anyone. He hurt the incel community more than anything ever. All he did was give people another reason to never date or have sex with these people.

He wasn't even an incel really. His mental issues and racism are what kept him from attracting women. The guy was good looking, from a financially well off family and had Hollywood connections through his father. Even though he was half Asian he mentioned only wanting blonde white women. He'd probably have had success if he tried dating any other race. He was half Asian so maybe some Asian women would have been interested in him. He could have used his dads position as a director to get some women. He was in his early 20s. Plenty of women that age would have fallen for the "my dad can get you in a movie" line.

This guy was no martyr. He didn't die for any good cause. I doubt he even cared about other incels. I'd also argue that lack of sex was the true reason. Nut jobs will make up any reason for their violence. Think about it. If the week before his killing spree, he'd have met a hot blonde and she had banged him a few times would he not have done this? I don't think so. I think he would have come up with another excuse because that's what wackos do.

He didn't expose anything. The only thing people know about him, in fact, the only thing I know about him, is that he murdered a bunch of people, and was angry because he couldn't get laid.

That doesn't reveal anything, because there have always been, and will always be, losers who can't get laid. And they will always suffer. This is the way the species is set up.

There are certain types of pain that are simply hardwired into the human genome. Women will always be subordinate to men. Unsuccessful men will always live lives of sexual frustration. Attractive women will always be able to get ahead without talent or hard work, by selling their sexuality, and they will always bitterly regret it later. Unattractive women will always be treated like pariahs.

The only solution to the misery of incels is to stop being one. There is no change you can make in society that will make women attracted to incel men. Only a change to those men themselves will help them.
