(1) No affirmative claims in titles.

(4) No links to outside content without post-text sufficient to explain the linked content.

The current list of exemptions are:
Mods will still see content from blocked users when the content is on a subreddit they moderate.

Such a useless new feature, looks like I got to step down or continue to use res.

It will be great for users, but yeah not going to do the mod team any good here.

Another glorious step forward towards safe spaces and no dissenting opinions

[–]hyperrrealLoves fun[S] 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I think giving individual users more control over their reddit experience is a good thing. It's not like this gives mods or admins more authority.

I think giving individual users more control over their reddit experience is a good thing.

WTF is "Reddit experience"?

Either way, it's a horrible thing for a Mature Discussion SubTM that PPD aspires to be

[–]sen--sen 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

why, though? it'll allow people from all sides to block trolls, or people that they can't engage in with constructively. granted, not every person will use it this way, but i think most will and hopefully, the blocked types will be weeded out (since there's a lot of overlap between those two groups). i think it's a positive thing.

[–]Plugawy_Nedznik 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So far 100% of blues think that blocking people that disagree with them solves all problems.

How telling. The difference between reds and blues, right here

[–]hyperrrealLoves fun[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So far 100% of blues think that blocking people that disagree with them solves all problems.

And your evidence for this is...

[–]Plugawy_Nedznik 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

2/2 is 100%

[–]UberBluntCruising 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not blue but I'll be using this to block blatant shitposters (naming them here would break rules but there are bloops on PPD who come under this description and we all know it) and the whiny incels.

[–]sen--sen 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

well that's not accurate; maybe i'm missing it but i'm one of the few people of any pill in this thread who has said outright that i think it's positive (and my flair isn't blue).

there are plenty of red, purple, blue, and gray people on this sub who engage genuinely and would continue to do so. not having trolls derailing a discussion for them would just improve the quality.

sure, some will use it just to block anyone who disagrees with them. i wouldn't be surprised if those people end up blocked in return, though, and like the trolls, eventually get weeded out or change their ways.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I use RES' block user feature on a number of posters in PPD. Combined with the RES tag of "Idiot", it elevates the quality of the discussion quite a bit.

[–]alreadyredschoolRational egoism < Toxic idealism0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Which color do you use for idiot?

Fuschia

Damn, that's what I use for users I like. It does make me chuckle when I see "RP Man " followed by a fuchsia tag.

There's already a thread over on /r/thebluepill where they're circlejerking about the possibility of blocking all red pillers - which is particularly funny if your stated goal is to satirize them.

Can any blue pillers here help me understand why blue pillers and those you have significant overlap with, including SRS, SJWs, leftists in general, you know, "you people" - are so consistently keen on protecting yourself from the scourge of dissenting opinions? I mean, I see dissenting opinions all the time too, obviously. I roll my eyes at most feminist tropes. But it would never occur to me to hide from them.

And please don't try to motte and bailey by saying, "no seriously, we just don't want to be harassed" - Reddit admins already issue site-wide bans if someone was PMing you. You are not being harassed by red pillers. What you really, really want is to only see views that you agree with. Why? I honestly don't get it.

Remember this Apple ad? It's the most famous commercial ever made. In it, the guy on the screen says, "we've created a garden of pure ideology, where each worker can bloom, secure from the pests of any contradictory thoughts." You... you do know he's the bad guy, right? You're not supposed to be like him. You should kind of be ashamed to have accidentally come to the same conclusion as him.

Because you have come to the same conclusion as him. Not just on reddit. Not just today with this block feature. The whole movement, with its safe spaces and no-platforming and blocking - you are literally trying to create "a garden of pure ideology, where you can be safe from the pests of any contradictory thoughts." Why would you even want that?

I was actually tempted to make a PPD post about that earlier. If they block all the TRP EC's, then they won't have any content to object to, and hopefully the echo chamber circlejerk would end forever. We can only hope.

[–]sen--sen 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

they'd probably be blocking them so that they're not as bothered when RPers wander over to their sub and make a scene. it's not unreasonable; the sub's not for RPers. i didn't think RPers cared that much about what others thought of them, though, so i don't know what the purpose of hoping the sub disappears is if (general) you run around claiming you don't care in the first place.

[–]probably_quite_drunk 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

they'd probably be blocking them so that they're not as bothered when RPers wander over to their sub and make a scene.

Which is fine. But it also means they would never see those user's posts or comments, so they'd have nothing to link to, and thus nothing to be outraged over.

i didn't think RPers cared that much about what others thought of them, though, so i don't know what the purpose of hoping the sub disappears is if (general) you run around claiming you don't care in the first place.

First, I'm not RP. Although that's a fairly standard Bloop practice, to label anyone they disagree with as RP so their opinion can immediately be discounted. It's both intellectually dishonest and sad.

Second, I only care if TBP disappears because I think it would be hilarious if their own hubris ended the sub. The irony would be delicious! "Let's block all the TRP EC's! --- (one week later) --- Oh shit, now we have nothing to complain about!"

[–]sen--sen 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

the TRPers that go to TBP aren't necessarily the ones being complained about, although there is sometimes overlap. no doubt, even with blocking the TRPers who try to make a scene in TBP, there would still be plenty of TRP content for them to criticize if they so desire. it's likely not going anywhere.

[–]probably_quite_drunk 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

there would still be plenty of TRP content for them to criticize if they so desire

Hence why my example was them blocking all the EC's. You know, the users who produce most of the TRP content.

[–]sen--sen 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

i don't often see the ECs in the TBP sub though (granted, i haven't gone there in weeks). so, it's not the ECs that would be blocked. thus, no hidden content from them.

[–]probably_quite_drunk 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

i don't often see the ECs in the TBP sub though

Hint hint: they don't have to be in TBP to be blocked.

[–]sen--sen 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i know that. i've never said otherwise. i said that the likely reason TBPers would block RPers is if they enter the sub to cause problems. if they don't do that, then i doubt most of them will bother blocking them because they'd rather make fun of their ridiculousness.

so, as i said before: if ECs don't enter TBP to cause problems, they likely won't be blocked.

[–]probably_quite_drunk 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

so, as i said before: if ECs don't enter TBP to cause problems, they likely won't be blocked.

I guess you missed the part where TBP had a thread going for users to block the TRP EC's, regardless of if they came into TBP or not.

[–]sen--sen1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

yeah, i must have. i glanced at it for the first time in a while today, but i didn't stay long or see a thread about that.

no, its the professor, enjoying his marriage and his wife, and everyone shitting all over him for it.

the fact that one is bothered by an anonymous on the internet over something that will never affect you, isn't illegal... Such a shitty mindset.

The only ones who go there either have the misguided notion that TBP is acting in good faith, responds to reason, or thinks for some reason that their e-honour makes a fucking difference.

Test out the feature, I'm sure you'll like it

... likewise? i don't hang out there, i'm just basing this on what i remember from the time i used to spend there, so i'm not the one your comment needs to be directed at.

i probably will, as evidenced by the comments where i've already said i think this is a good thing.

I'd imagine those who are using it are those who only reply to content, not those who search for it.

And they can always use two different accounts, with two different settings.

I'm more worried what it will do to the conversations here. I'd rather not see blues, reds, and incels talking to the centrists and not each other.

[–]probably_quite_drunk 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sadly I think it may be inevitable, at least from an outside perspective.

Personally, I would love to be blocked by blue pillers, so I don't have to listen to their fatuous objections to some caricature of my thinking.

I would hate being blocked by some of the more thoughtful fence-sitting types in this subreddit, because they ask intelligent questions, raise objections I think are good and worth talking about even when they are wrong, and generally help me hone my thinking.

[–]stonepimpletilists 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Lol.

A subreddit created to shit on another subreddit, and then blocks all members of said subreddit.

You couldn't make that up if you tried.

anyone who isn't an idiot at an RP sub could care less. Don't try harassing my spouse IRL, consider spending less time online.

"you people" - are so consistently keen on protecting yourself from the scourge of dissenting opinions

Surely you realize the irony of a red piller saying this? TRP insta-bans anyone who dares post a dissenting opinion on that sub. Not the case for TBP, as far as I know.

[–]nicethingyoucanthaveRed Pill Male1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do you think these two statements are similar:

  • no trolling in this one subreddit, however, here's a debate subreddit where we invite you to post

  • hide all posts from all people with whom I disagree no matter where they post and no matter what topic they're speaking on

I have no issue with dissenting opinions, really, my issue is when a person is just toxic. I mean, I believe in free speech and all, but I don't have to subject myself to a neo-nazi's stump speech. A lot of red pill stuff it downright toxic to us.

[–]hyperrrealLoves fun[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're actually right, it did have a block feature. But it was for PMs only. This is a more advanced version of that which blocks comments, etc. as well.
