If you understand that Feminism is not an equality movement, but a means of maximizing a woman's sexual strategy, then it all makes sense. Forcefully shaping public opinion so that even low-SMV woman are to be considered by top alphas is how they aim to achieve that.

The thing is I really don't care. In all seriousness I've never focused on a dude's bod for more than 3 seconds. And those first 3 were just the poster dudes my old weightlifting room had for "inspiration".

I don't need to be empowered by showing less buff dudes, I don't need empowerment by forcing my own image on popular media forms. I imagine that many dudes feel the same, couple this with the fact that women prefer those hot bods and we see a continued incentive for keeping the status quo on men.

The primary reason it is not an equality based message is that capitalism likes to sell dreams.

Fine let them sell dreams then, good for them giving the people what they want. It beats having a bunch of nosy people deciding what the people OUGHT to want.

it's a fair point. i'm sure there are also men who would benefit from the same body diversity in advertising. it admittedly sucks that that issue is mainly focused on women.

I find this off-putting too, and while I don't consider myself RP I am bothered by this "I shouldn't change, society must change to find me attractive" mindset most often shared by both feminists and neckbeards alike. That's one area where RP knows what they're doing- they change to fit society.

That said, I don't think it's such a big deal for a plus-size model to be in SI, considering there are still plenty of people who find her attractive, and of course it's nice to have some diversity. But back to the main point: I have noticed that within "fat acceptance", there tends to be an emphasis on the fat girl/fit guy pairing which is extremely hypocritical. If being fat is sexy and fine and there's nothing wrong with it- why is the emphasis on finding a FIT boyfriend and not a fat one? It's the equivalent of neckbeards saying they only want thin women, but getting all upset when those same women don't want to date a fat guy with a giant neck-beard. You have to be willing to date your physical equivalent.

It's not fair, but it's a good way to make money. I've seen the reverse when companies are trying to sell things to males. Pretty much every ax commercial is an average guy putting on their fragrance and then being surrounded by model-types. Also, this woman is still extremely beautiful, so it wouldn't be unrealistic for her to be able to snag some hot dude.

WHY must we always go to polar extremes? We went from having models who are very very skinny...to models who are very very big.

Why NOT have an in-between? Like maybe a size 6? NO we go from size 0 to size 16.

And Just have to say...Hannah Davis (as always) was stunning. yeah she dipped low, but hey, that's what sells.

Bog standard feminist double standard. It is okay for a woman to do this questionable thing, but if men do it suddenly it becomes unacceptable. In this case it's gaining weight/being overweight. After all if you did the research I guarantee you would find that fat guys have trouble getting slim girlfriends. Why is there no campaign putting them in ads with Victoria's Secret models?

Equality is never a straight, steady or predictable road. Too many variables, too many clashing personalities and viewpoints. And the issue of equality between men and women has a long history that spans longer than civilizations.

So I don't see anything problematic in this small half step. It's one more along the winding path.
