I think male humans are “more attractive” then females I mean they tend to have better physique and muscle definition. (Of course we take into account what is attractive in males is not necessarily attractive in females). I think women artificially make themselves look more attractive to get access to the resources men have in a lot of species males don’t invest at all in child rearing so females don’t have to compete at all to attract them but in humans that’s not the case women who attract quality men who provide and help with the kids have more surviving offspring.

Once again, purple pill does not understand causation versus correlation. Men didn't conspire together to hold women to a beauty standard, evolution did that.

Men are biologically programmed to pursue attractive women for various reasons but mainly related to child-bearing (The question, 'What makes someone attractive?' has been answered by science many times). The women who were most attractive had their choice of the most optimal male partners and were able to bear children with their traits, who were also attractive, all but guaranteeing their survival as well. Ugly women either did not reproduce or had to settle for less than optimal male partners which risked the likelihood of their survival and the survival of their children.

Men did not hold women to a beauty standard at all. Women desired to be beautiful on their own, because if they didn't it reduced their chances of success and survival. Men were also held to a beauty standard, but this standard was multi-factorial and also included status and other things.

This pursuit of beauty generally worked out for the human race (it is why we are still here and doing quite well for ourselves) as it prioritized the survival of attractive (see: healthy) people over the ugly, unhealthy, or incapable of providing for themselves.

Because women didn't have anything that men needed. So women marketed themselves as being pretty to look at and men fell for it.

The David is literally standing there naked? Ancient Greek sculpture was just as fascinated by what-it-took-to-be male beauty, if not more so, as with female beauty. The men in Greek sculpture are all Adonis types and very naked.

I would say that the standards of beauty for men and women are different, but in art history I wouldn't say it is worse for either. They're just held to different ideals.

I would argue that in the age of mass media and the reproduction of reality through the lens of a camera the woman's body has become the standard of beauty and location of discussions about human sexuality. But this is a recent phenomenon, where women's bodies are used as the space on which our cultural struggle with sexual expression is being fought. Religions insisting women cover up to libertines insist women leave nothing to the imagination.

The same reason "rugged" is a good look for a dude, and not for a woman. Pursuing financial/career success requires lots of time and effort. Putting effort into looking good detracts reduces the amount available for other pursuits. Thus, a "beautiful" man has always been viewed with some level of distrust. (obv this is just my opinion. No data to back this one up)

Because women aren't capable for fighting or physical work at the same level as men. So women were valued for the only important thing they did better than men: making children. And obviously the more attractive the kid will be = better. So women were judged on that. Men were judged for other things.

The "beauty" of the peacock tail, lion mane, walrus fangs, etc... is an advertisement for physical fitness.

Men are "beautiful" too when they display; 1. Height 2. Intelligence 3. Charm 4. Etc...

Because women are not visual and don't find men physically attractive. They find men's bank accounts and status attractive, which is why the patriarchy exists in the first place. The patriarchy exists on account of women being wired by biology to be prostitutes.

Because for most of history men had all the power. Women mostly either got power from being born into it or marrying into it. In the case of marrying into it, beauty is what could help women move above their class and up in the world.

Men mostly got their power from money or through force.

Women had to appeal to men, men had to appeal to other men.

Its not like today. Men at the top of the male hierachy got the best pussy, today a man has to appeal to women. Women arent given to men by their fathers or stolen during war anymore.

Because the simultaneous existence of very unequal status among men and socially mandated monogamy meant that women did not want to get monogamously paired with a low status male. Appearing attractive to high status men would be the best way for women to attempt to avoid this fate.

Because men are the more physical gender. When you're in a logging camp or marching through some swamp in an army or whatever beauty means very little.

A small group of the leasure class did makeup and wigs and shit but they didn't have to get dirty and it was also a symbol of that.

This follows through all of human history. The Ancient Egyptians put men in their heiroglyphs as darker than women because they spent more time outside working and that was the cultural norm. Even when they normalized makeup culturally there is a difference between that and changing what gender has to get sweaty and dirty and bloody.

Comparing humans to peacocks or any other animal is retarded. Human's children have a 10+ year dependency period, peacocks don't. This means human females need more than just genes for the males, hence they appeal to be attractive.

You'll note that the less women need men to raise their children, the more women select for hyper attractive men.

Google Tutankhamun's coffin, and you might notice weird things, such as eyeliner, braided beard, intricate necklace (I'm sure those things had their own name, but I'm a lazy ass to google), elaborate head garment, and bracelets.

Google traditional Eastern European / Orthodox Christian dress, and you'll notice a woman's hair fully covered, long, fully leg-covering dresses, and long sleeves.

Finally, if we're talking primates, you might notice that it's much easier to tell female orangutan apart than, say, female dog, since primates have developed (almost) non-shrinking breasts.

Also, if you listen to other people who throw around statements like "for most of human history", they'll tell you that "for most of human history" the vast majority of men were filthy rapey savages, and woman had no say in what to wear and how to present herself.

Women are attracted to personality traits the most, while men are primarily attracted to looks.

Ofcourse, that's not all that takes to make a relationship happen. Men need a woman to have a personality aswell, same as women wanting attractive men.

But men don't necessarily pull a girl in with looks, but personality.

And women will most easily pull a man in with great looks.

The only species I’m aware of where the male is more colorful is the peacock. But it’s an irrelevant point because we have no idea what other species find “beautiful.”

I think it’s true that men’s motivation for oppressing women was to control them or more accurately to control access to and supply of sex.

The anger that permeates that manosphere is just a reaction to the realization that thanks to equality men are now being regarded and treated as women always have been. Valued for appearance, passed over if theyre unattractive, treated better if they are attractive. Someone down thread said “women are guaranteed to pass on their genes.” That totally ignores the “old maid/spinster” dynamic where unattractive women from poor families who couldn’t buy their daughter into a better family never married and were regarded as social undesirables.

Personally I don’t understand why people spend so much time over analyzing this stuff. It’s not going to help in you today’s environment so why devote so much mental space to looking for scientific resining to justify one’s low social status?
