To me it comes from a Dao saying: What IS gives the quality. What IS NOT gives the quantity".

Examples: a pipe or a house. The walls, what is, gives the qualities of the construction (durability, flexibility and so on). The quantity, how much value it gives you, come from what is not, from the absence, from the hole.

I apply this in my relationships. When I am with them I bring the values. I am strong, happy, supportive and sarcastic, flirting and outpouring energy.

When I am not there, the hamster is running, the pussy is itching, her chatting with girlfriends puts me in favourable light. I am missed, desired or, as the female brain puts it, loved.

That's it. Get a life, your own life. Lift hard. Get a valuable hobby. Improve yourself outside the house. Give her a chance to miss you. (And try being less of a fag)

This should have started and been established long before LTR.

If you haven't started and maintained a good frame from the get go, it's gonna be a hard slog back.

Basically, it comes down to running shit.

You are busy running your life well and she happens to live with you while you do that. If you're having to compromise who you are to live with her, that's a miserable life.

Maintaining initial frame is critical. Nothing major should change when you start living together.

Obviously there will be adjustments and figuring things out (on both your sides) but you should never give up on the things you really care about. It's about respecting and encouraging each other to be an autonomous and independent individual on their own path. If you are in an LTR, ideally those paths are similar.

Figuring out your household routine is an important negotiation - ideally she has the same level of household care as you, as a rule of thumb men do men's chores. To keep things fair, you need to talk about the things you like and dislike to do and divide the work, assuming you are both working. If she's not working and you are then all that household shit falls on her.

You spend a certain number of hours with her. She gets a certain allotment of your time - this is the time you WANT to give her.

You do the hobbies/leisure you care about as normal, focus on your goals, etc and most importantly maintain your freedom as an individual.

The only reason she is with you is because you allow her to tag along on your journey. Hopefully, she shares the same life goals, etc.

She needs her space and you need yours. She needs her life and you need yours.

This way the time you do share together is important.

Generally, my rule of thumb is she gets me all to herself 3 nights a week. She knows my schedule and I know hers so she can work around that. It's not "Friday" is our night, if I have stuff or she does it adjusts. I couldn't live with a girl who always needed me around.

Sexual compatibility is important, that's a topic on it's own but if you aren't sexually compatible, again going to be another tough one to overcome. Everyone I know in marriages with happy, healthy sex lives said the same thing, they are highly attracted to each other and share similar sex drives. Kinda boils down to that.

If you have incompatible lifestyle orientations that is going to be a problem. ie..

You like hanging out with the guys 3 nights a week and she has no friends or social life outside you and yours?
You are focused on your career and work 10-12 hour days. She has a mickey mouse part time job and no other ambitions?
You need alone time to decompress. She always wants to be together when you're at home.

TLDR: Don't get into an LTR unless there is a high degree of compatibility and in other news water is wet.
