Also, my favorite response to compliments is; “thank you, I love it/me, too! 😊” if I want to be confident but sweet, and “I know, right?” If I want to be a bitch, or “thank you, I know!!” If I want them to be on the fence about if I am sweet or a bitch 👍🤣🤣

He was probably expecting her to start demeaning herself and say something along the lines of "oh I'm really not..." and so on so that he could start assuring her that, yes, he believed her to be beautiful/smart/funny and therefore she was. Because he's the highest authority on earth and if he thinks that, then it is the truth. Poor girls need to be reminded of their value constantly or they'll forget...

Ironically, never once have I encountered a man who could take a compliment well. Despite all the posts I see on Reddit from men complaining that women don't compliment them enough, yada yada.

Personally I don’t regularly say thank you in response to a complement (words), usually only to thoughtful actions or to convey appreciation in order to reward a desired behaviour.

Compliments can be cheap talk and rarely genuine when given by strangers - I will generally reply with something along the lines of ‘that’s lovely of you to say’ or ‘I agree, I love [subject of compliment] too!’
