Until you've actually gone through enough of life to know what it is you want, how to actually UNDERSTAND AND READ women for what they are, then and only then are you ready to make an educated decision about whether or not you should take a woman on board.
Marriage is not a terrible concept historically, as it is the foundation of the nuclear family, which was beneficial to society as a whole. As well as MOST men. Historically - that is the key word. You're talking about thousands of years of patriarchal societies and the majority of masculine men... so what?
I'm talking about RIGHT NOW, about our society that is NOT a patriarchy anymore, and we're talking about men who are NOT masculine.
Now for marriage to work (I define work as "thrive" not "survive". Yeah plenty of people say they are "happily married" but if you look at it deeply, they are miserable and trapped and rationalizing), you have to be many things. You need strong frame - the type of frame that I honestly don't see 90% of the men in society being hard enough to ever have.
You need to be an upwards spiral. You need to be on a life / career trajectory where you'll be doing better every year. Many guys are not.
You need to higher SMV than her and other guys she'll be around. So to marry a 7 and keep her in line, you need to be an 8.
Most guys are not 8s. Not by a longshot.
You need to be sufficiently sexually experienced to understand how women work, and how to objectively evaluate RMV to ensure you're actually getting the deal you thought you're getting. I personally think you don't really know anything about women until you've dated / plated / fucked at least 20+, 30+ women. Most guys are sub 10.
When you are ready, go get married, who gives a fuck. But before that, it's a terrible idea in our society. Getting married as a young 24 year old who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground (aka most 24 year olds, myself included) is a terrible idea.
TRP is so against marriage because we are speaking to most men. Men who have not peaked in value.
That's my last point too. It's stupid to think about marriage if you have not peaked in value. Like that dumb motherfucker on here who married a average girl (6.5 -7) when he was a broke student in med school, and then he's miserable because he's surrounded by all these prettier, smarter crawling all over him because he's a young fit surgeon. He negotiated the deal while his current value was low.
So many guys, soooo many guys are looking to negotiate the biggest deal of their life (marriage) when their value is low. I'm not saying never get married, I'm saying if you must, get your value to it's peak. Get close at least. Then you get the best woman you can get.
TRP to me is about helping men get to that peak. Once you get to that peak, you are a man. You can do whatever the fuck you want. You want to marry, quit your job and become a rapper, get into the cuckold fetish, travel the world, do meth, etc, go right ahead. I might think you're an idiot, but you're a man, the only thing you need to do is pursue your mission in life. End of story.

Because men and women peak at different times, men usually get married at their absolute lowest point while women get married at their absolute highest point. When you are young, you are more or less dealing with women in their prime who have a shitload of options. More options than they realize.
At 35, most men are usually much closer to a peak and most women have long since peaked.

What about those of us who outkicked our coverage by a longshot and married our college sweethearts?
[–]Endorsed ContributorThotwrecker2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, I see two options. You can either fight or run.
Either you can transform her into a good wife through positive dominance, leadership, variety / unpredictability, and sexual polarity. It may not be doable depending on how beta she sees you, but if she still respects you, you can do it. Once respect is gone, however, then I see it being too much of an uphill battle.
If the "positive leadership and positive dominance" doesn't work, then you need to use dread game. Get ripped. Hit on other chicks. Have hot female friends and coworkers, make it clear if she's not pushing herself to be the hottest, fittest, best wife can be for you, your attention will be elsewhere.
For dread game to work though, she must feel that you are genuinely OK with option B.
Option B is you get a divorce.

I'm an 8 maybe even closer to 9, and I'll tell you that it's hard to hold them down anyway. You can get away with a lot more slacking, but by no means is it easy. If you don't have your RP fundamentals in line, you'll fail all the same. Something crossed my mind the other day. We talk a lot about BP men, and how they are not real men, how they're secretly unhappy, and how usually the women run the relationship. I've met quite a bit of different women, all kinds of women. Some more alpha female than not. With enough time, and masculinity they almost all concede and give you the power. But, I've also met a lot of BP guys that seem to be really happy in their marriage, and their wives seem to be happy as well. Do you think its possible some men just cannot lead the relationship, and some women just don't want to be led?
[–]Endorsed ContributorThotwrecker2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think there is merit to an idea that you just need to find your complement in a yin yang sense. IE most guys are a composite of masculine and feminine - no one is 100 / 0 masculine to feminine, except like Mike Tyson.
So if I'm 80 masculine / 20 feminine, my ideal mate is 80 feminine / 20 masculine.
So for guys who are 60/40, they can feasibly find a 40/60 and be happy that way. Their relationship will not have the raw sexuality / magnetic attraction that comes with a more polarized relationship, but they can be "compatible".
The problem with that theory, however, is these relationships are basically waiting to fail. These men are masculine enough that they are functional as a beta bucks - and they might be funny, sweet, and charming enough that she actually does enjoy his company - but not masculine enough to make her stop harboring fantasies of being led by a real man.
Most women who seem masculine or balanced f/m or "want to lead" or whatever, deep down still crave submission to a true leader. They have just created this armor and persona due to feeling that they cannot find that kind of alpha male to lead them.
These happy BP relationships you see, sure they might be happy. But it's all a house of cards. She's faithful UNTIL that other alpha comes around. Until he loses his job and goes through some real shit. Until she just can't negotiate herself into feeling attracted to him, and sex tapers off, and they wind up in counseling and posting on reddit that "our relationship is perfect in everyway except this."
So there IS certainly truth to the idea that you can make a marriage work with a healthy mix of masculine/feminine traits, with shared leadership and two individuals sharing the "alpha" position. It can work. But in my mind, you need a very rare type of girl to make it work, you need some luck, you have to give up on a satisfying, sexually charged relationship, and so on. It's too prone to failure.
The more you put the "masculine" into the hands of the female, the more you share in your duties like leadership, direction-setting, dominance, creating sexual polarity, and so on... the more you hand over the fate of your relationship to lady fortune. If you are in control and in charge, then the relationship succeeds or fails by your hand. It's on you, and that's the only way I want it to be, I don't ever want to leave something important to me up to the whims of a woman, even if I think she's a smart, good person.
Some men on the other hand prefer to leave it in her hands or share the load, so that when problems come up, they do not have to feel responsible. They fear knowing that the fate of their relationship and their family is in their hands alone, and this makes them defer leadership to her. Obviously I think this is a cancerous mentality that invites ruin into your life, but if one is a beta, a true blue beta that won't consider changing, then I understand how he might figure "well, that's better than nothing, the alternative is no relationship or no family, so sign me up."
[–]projectself3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
no one is 100 / 0 masculine to feminine, except like Mike Tyson.
Read his biography.. he is just as unhappy as everyone else. His mother was a crack whore who threw him into the streets, his father was a pimp who ignored him until he was a millionaire. He has spent his entire life trying to get external validation. Yes, he absolutely excelled at boxing, under Cus's lead.. the only family he knew.. and when Cus died, under King who used and exploited him. Go back and watch what Robin Givens and her Mom did to him. and he just sat there and took it. He had no frame outside the ring.
This is not to knock the great Tyson, whom I respect greatly. It is to reiterate the concept that every man has a weight to carry, and none of us get it correct in all facets of life.
[–]Wel1080 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That makes perfect sense, and I agree with all that. I have friends that are single and very alpha, at least on the outside. They have sex with tons of married women that are married to beta guys. Outside the sex, those women are perfectly happy and will continue to stay in that relationship. Something tells me that a lot of these beta men might have a hint of what's going on, but refuse to even look into it. There's no way your woman cheats on you that often and you haven't the slightest clue, i just can't see it.
Which leads me to my next point, some people are just OK with that.

Marriage 1.0 was before the Child Support Laws.
The Child Support Laws came into existence in 1950.
This destroyed the masculine-to-feminine polarity in marriage because now a woman can at any time choose to Divorce Rape a man and not lose Access to resources.
"Men desire Freedom, Women desire Access."
...it's the Access to resources after a divorce that violates the Natural Laws and gives women the incentive to break the marriage.
Alpha simply means a man has a masculine polarity. Alpha can be seen as having both Frame (one's internal Freedom) and Game. (which is the Liberty to act on your own best interests)
Marriage 2.0 is simply a bad contract because on top of the Child Support Laws (which are truly dark) they add another layer of Alimony.
Masculine men do wish to operate within:
"Men love women, women love children, children love puppies."
...but you cannot be naive about it.

I WANT to be the head of a family and i want my kids to have a mom and dad raise them.
Legally you are not the head of a family. You are there on your wife's whim. One call to the police "... I feel scared" and you're out. And by "out" I mean "no longer welcome in your own home", you'll naturally have to pay alimony and child support.
I am curious, why is TRP so against marriage and raising a family?
Marriage is clearly a dumb fucking idea for men. It pays a woman to be with you, then pays her to leave. No wonder it's so popular with them.
In terms of family - most here would like a viable option to have a family, but we recognise that legally everything is stacked against us. And that includes women themselves. When she's got kids, you'll find you are bottom of the list of her priorities, reduced to nothing more than provider and disciplinarian. And as I say - only allowed to stick around on her say-so. And she knows it. And she will use this against you. The happy guys you see married? They all live under threatpoint. Their wives are free to go into periodic emotional meltdown, knowing the man doesn't have the realistic option to leave.
The guys I know who are married are staying married to keep their children. That's right - every day of their lives is spent with someone they don't want to be with in exchange for contact with the children that they do.
If these men had a realistic option of keeping their kids and leaving, the women would behave MUCH better.
But are there any other guys in here who are wanting to get married and raise a family?
Married - hell no. Never going to happen.
Family - legally and socially everything is against men here, and I'd dearly love to see that changed. Not going to happen any time soon sadly.

Great insight - I think OP and other men, including myself TBH, have this fantasy of being the "patriarch". The man of the house, the head of the family, the Godfather, the Don. It's a fantasy, it doesn't exist anymore. A lot of us who came from cultures where this is a thing (Latin cultures, Asian cultures, etc) have this fantasy of being the head of the family and a positive, dominant captain of own ecosystem.
But it's never really your ecosystem if you can lose it because she decides she "loves you, but isn't IN love with you."
It's like if you're the CEO, a fat load of good that does you if the board can vote you off, and the board happens to be one woman.
TRP is about the destruction of BP fantasies that govern men, and this "head of the family" patriarch fantasy is sadly just that - a fantasy that exists only in foreign lands and past times.

CEO is a job, just like husband. Except when you get fired as CEO you typically still own part of the company. When you get fired as husband you still have to keep paying.
this "head of the family" patriarch fantasy
Yeah. A few generations ago it was backed by laws and a social structure that discouraged female cheating and men didn't marry branch swinging women - 'Divorcee' and 'Widow' used to be a point of shame. Now it's just another of life's steps for women.
No fault divorce was added. Alimony wasn't removed. Bingo - instant payout for women reclaiming their freedom and destroying the family in the process.
I don't trust the states of Western governments not to change the marriage laws even further yet again. They could even invalidate all prenups.
Marriage... fuck that. If I'm making that kind of sacrifice I want legal protection, not to get legally fucked over on her whim.

For fuck's sake, you can raise a family without the magical piece of paper and ceremony. All those two things actually accomplish in the here and now that matters is ceding your ability to walk away (without severe financial damage) from a woman that is no longer bringing her part to the table. And that magical piece of paper does not enforce her bringing her part to the table anymore either. It has become an unequivocal liability for the majority of men.
How it happened 30, 50, or 5000 years ago does not matter today. We don't live then. We live now.
And if a particular woman wants to hold out for a ring before popping a baby out for you? Next. There are other women- ones that won't require you put your neck in a noose. Plus, you are male. One advantage men get is they retain their reproductive potential far longer than women do. That is significant negotiating power most men abdicate thoughtlessly in their thirst.
The only reason a modern man should marry is when the woman would lose far more in the divorce than he would, such as political ties, social status, she has more assets, etc. Or at least more than she would gain by violating the marriage contract. Outside of those edge cases it is a disadvantageous contract for men at best.
[–]mikeburnfire3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are correct that being a head of household is masculine, and nobody can fault you for wanting to be a father. However, there are some serious problems with modern marriage that most men never consider until it's too late.
Here is a brief excerpt from IllimitableMen's article called, "THE CHOICE". I encourage you to read the entire thing, as it respectfully details the benefits and risks involved in modern marriage.
From the moment [a man] has said “I do”, a looming sword of Damocles stalks him, scrutinizing his every action. Too many mistakes and the sword falls, divorce will be initiated, and financial and emotional chaos is wrought. Now of course there is an imbecilic, ignorant argument to be made that “not all women are like that“, and indeed this is true, not all women will whimsically detonate the divorce bomb. And yet a wise man in his prudence must ask himself “is my woman like that?” and then follow up this question with “if my woman is not like that, is it likely she could become like that?” in which case the resounding answer is “easily”. If too much comfort is indulged, if too much is neglected or too much left to chance – the ruination of marital union is all but a certainty. A marriage is like a car hanging off a cliff, it requires the man driving to accelerate now and again to ensure the car does not tilt and fall into the ocean below. Like courting, in marriage the burden of performance is man’s to bear. If man fails as a husband or is perceived to have failed, easily he loses everything; if his woman is an abysmal failure of a wife on the other hand, she gets a pay day and a fresh chance. In today’s society a woman’s marriage risk is minimal, and of course, this comes at the expense of man’s being astronomical. Women do not fear marriage because they have not a single reason to, men do because they have every reason to.

Because of no fault divorce and a "You Go Gurrll" culture that promotes open hypergamy, getting married these days is like walking through a mine field. Sure, it's not guaranteed that you'll step on a mine and get blown up, but there's at least a 50-50 chance you will. Do you want to take that chance?
[–]1Entropy-76 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
TRP is against marriage because in the USA there is a 43% divorce rate and there are enough horror stories that it seems like a bad idea (sort of like if you read enough stories about plane crashes then flying seems like a bad idea).
The theory is that if you are paying money for a woman just to play house with you, then you are her bitch. On the other hand, if she will have sex with you without you paying anything, then she is your bitch. Being a provider is fine but it sets you up to get cucked. So unless you are both "alpha" and a provider, getting married is a bad prospect: the potential is there for her to cheat on you and then if you divorce her she takes your kids and your money.
There are a number of risk factors associated with divorce. You can't necessarily lower the risk by consciously avoiding those factors but you can assess your situation going in. In many cases the risk going in is less than 10% for the right couple.
I want to get married and have kids but the window on that is closing as I age (I'm one of the only people in my family who is not divorced because I never got married). On the other hand, I live in China and while it is uncommon for a severely younger woman to marry and older Caucasian, in a country of 1.3 billion there are enough takers that it might be possible to find one in the next year.
I'm not sure what you define as "older intellectual women". My current dating range is between 27 and 34. And being intellectual is no inoculation against administering shit tests or wanting to be dominated.

Men from the 50s and back had better reasons to marry.
But of course there will be masculine men, bad ass alpha guys who will still marry. For a lot of men though, marrying will be one of the worst decisions in their life, therefore the blanket advice "never marry". Dont take it too literally.

so all the men through time who have gotten married and raised a family, they all have been the bitch?
For most of this time, their wives didn't have daddy government subsidizing divorce.
TRP isn't against marriage, we simply understand the risks better than most people and want others to understand them as well.

The Red Pill is in the context of 3rd wave feminism and the attitudes and laws that have arisen from it. There may be certain RP "truths" that have applied across the ages, but there was a patriarchy in place to keep many of the negative feminine traits in check.
You still haven't defined "intellectual", and it has only a little to do with being smart.
In any event, as I mentioned, I'm actually on your side: I want a family. Spending my 20's in a series of LTRs that didn't pan out and then working as a divorce lawyer, it is a rough ride.
[–]TheRedStoic2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Well, first off, check married redpill (I'm pretty sure you have). MRP is TRP on hard mode, and they'll be willing to help you before you enter a legal contract.
Secondly, trp is primarily based (to my knowledge) in the U.S. Which has an awful legal system in place to give all benefits to the woman in case of divorce, at zero risk. (rewards trading up or out of commitment).
Thirdly, TRP itself is a praxeology, not a philosophy. People have philosophies about trp. One of the most common types of ideology about trp involves a simple cost benefit analysis and risk assessment for any contract. (managing value).
Now this risk assessment, logically so, leads towards "don't get married". This is a general rule, with the beautiful thing about generalities being that there are outliers. The sad thing being that, if you think you're an outlier, you're probably not.
Fourth, the misconception of AWALT is rife among this community. All women are like that refers to potentiality, not inexorability. All women can succumb to pure hypergamous instincts under the right circumstances, much like saying that everyone has a price. (that price may never be found for some people, that is not the same as saying they are exempt from the rule) this also adds to the common disdain for marriage.
Fifth, ignore most of the responses in this thread, they're saturated with conflation, mistakes, bias, and projection. I'm presuming (giving benefit of doubt) that you'd prefer actionable information above a, here's why your wrong and I'm right dialog. (after scrolling down again you too make these easy butthurt mistakes, no hard feelings, most people suck at objective argument)
All in all it's in your best interest to do what aligns with your goals, but also to own the outcomes. If you want to get married, make yourself the absolute best available in her eyes, then keep improving from there, with the acceptance that random chance could still fuck you hard.
It's really your own question of risk vs reward, though this is rarely accurately performed when it comes to two peoples inclinations because people are not constants, they change. Even Moreso for you I would venture to say, since objectivity is key on such an assessment, and you seem to be anything but objective. In fact, I'd say you're every bit as sample biased as any poster in anger phase telling you marriage is irredeemable, impossible, and universally evil, you're just behind the opposing podium. (this is not bad, nor am I attacking you.)
Now I'm not attempting to insult, far from it, but what it really comes down to is this :
TLDR, evidence labels current western marriage as a major risk with minor to no gains which couldn't be achieved without the legal label. Do what you want, and accept the consequences.

TRP isn't against marriage. TRP forums of omegas fantasizing about life are against marriage.
Alpha Bucks will have a goal of marriage.
If you want it, talk to a divorce lawyer tomorrow and ask what you should do beforehand. Own your house free and clear. Have your business paying dividends. Create a living trust. Build your retirement plan by 30. Have only business debt, not personal. Hide your income from everyone. Live frugally. Spend enthusiastically in private.
In your 30s, after your financial house is settled, find a younger woman who wants marriage. She won't likely be in a sorority at a college.

I have posted about this before. Look up "Sexual (reproductive) strategy"
I have two kids. They live with me full time, I managed to avoid divorce rape. You are correct, nearly everyone on this site is anti marriage. I am anti marriage, it is a mistake.
Read my post on how to find a girl and have kids. I have my concerns about some aspects of your post though. You mention:
"But a lot of this stuff may not work on older intellectual women. Especially if you want to find one to be the mother of your kids."
WTF. Women are women and you should not even consider an LTR or children with an older woman. I am 44, trust me, older women are just older, uglier, more damaged, have more baggage and expect more from a man than younger women. Intelligence is something you are born with, it does not come with age, that is wisdom.
So you need to adjust your attitude and expectations. If you want to have kids with a woman you may consider the phillipines or colombia. You have a better chance of finding a woman with traditional values.
Read my post, never think about older women ever again, start hiding your money, research trusts to shift ownership of your assets. Research family law. Do not get married.

Do you mean all the stuff written in TRP Network is valid for modern Western societies? There are traditional-minded families and girls raised by them, here in Turkey. One of them negotiated me in the bed, naked, for marriage. She seemed not to complete her college education, seeking resources for future.
In this modern times, where internet and media has raped every single home, I cannot be sure for innocence of any woman.

I said to consider those options. Your chances of finding a woman from those countries, with traditional views on family is much higher. Otherwise you have to risk it. Read my earlier post on that if you really want kids.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Go for a girl who is at least 6 years younger than you. Definitely not older than 25. You need to be with them for at least two years IMO and a woman who does not have children before 28-29 goes crazy.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I am going to bring up a contrary point to your never older than 25. At 25 she still has a ton of leverage and you are making a deal with someone who will likely morph into someone who you can't stand. Your advise to not marry a 35 year old hag would be good if women didn't age, but they do, marrying a 25 year old may result in you being married to a 35 year old hag given enough time.
The vast majority of women are ticking time bombs. What men say they don't want to end up with may be exactly what they end up with by the time women are in their mid 30s. I feel that if you are going to get married you should find a chick who is over 30 and maybe even over 35. The thing is. You should be way over that age. By then she likely is unable to hold down her fuse together and either went nuts, or she isn't so much of a time bomb.
Likewise. If you are married for 8 years and she gets bored, she is now 43. Dread game on a 43 year old woman is very different than a 30 year old woman. If she hangs on until she is 50 she pretty much knows that divorce will end her up in a fucking bad position.
Marry a 25 year old and she could easily have 10 years of leverage left.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
If you want to have kids and you date a 35 year old she is going to be desperate to have kids. You need time to get to know her. By the time she has kids, even if she managed to fall pregnant naturally, she is far more likely to have complications, high risk of down syndrome, difficult pregnancy. Plus then you are stuck with a kid and a woman pushing 40. What if you want a second kid. Trust me by the time she has pushed out two kids and is over 40 you are not going to want to fuck her ever again. You have created a living hell for yourself. This advice is for any guy over 30 - only consider a woman for an LTR who is at least 5 years younger than you. If you are ovet 40, make sure she is 10 years younger than you. I have dated women over 40. They are horrible, flabby, entitled, angry, botox bandits.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You could be 45 when she is 33. You can marry a 25 year old and in 15 years she will still be a 40 year old who you never want to fuck again. If anything I think betting on a the outcome of a 35 year old would be much better than betting on the outcome of a 25 year old.

Dude, stop lashing out at fellow TRPer's. It's not cool at this point, lots of us have a thick enough skin to deal with petty idiotic bullshit you are tossing so what is the point to keep doing it nonstop? You trying to make yourself feel better? Over-compensating for being a punching bag as a kid? Stick to the topic, we don't need keyboard warriors like you going around pretending to be tough and tossing names when people are trying to have a real discussion. Let the downvotes roll, that's about all the cucks can do to me.
Alpha Bucks will have a goal of marriage
Personal preference, you are falsely applying what you think to everyone. Many talk of surrogate mothers or just not bothering with kids, each to his own.
Now there is decent advice. If you left your post at just that bit I quoted last then I would agree with it. Marriage is not beneficial to men nowadays for many reasons but if you still want to go through with it there are ways to protect yourself better. TRP isn't against marriage, the cost-benefit analysis just shows it's heavily skewed against men anymore in many ways beyond just financial burdens.

Or you could find a younger woman that wants kids, but convince her against marriage.
It's a safer bet. And besides: you don't need marriage.

Read what I said. Reddit TRP has a rule: sexual strategy only.
TRP as a whole outside of this subreddit is not sexual strategy solely.
Athol Kay is TRP and pro-marriage. With warnings attached. There are other pro-marriage red pill writers who write from a faith perspective and warn dudes that marriage is a big risk but a valued one in many aspects. Pretty sure Vox is also pro TRP and pro marriage.
I've been among the TRP communities for almost thirty years now. 1987 I found my first seduction community online, as a young teen. 1989 I found my first UUnet-based seduction community discussing TRP truths from the 60s and 70s TRP authors.
Nothing new is here. Nothing. Other than omegas with zero net assets who think marriage is the great evil, instead of looking in the mirror.

Most people here are against marriage because of how much power the woman has over the man in the modern model of marriage.
It's opportunity cost.

[–]triact8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How?
It's like fighting barehand (man's strength) vs. a gun (modern divorce). No matter how skilled and how strong of a man you are, you can give the gun to a kid (many modern women) and that kid can still pull the trigger and kill even the strongest man.
Trp advocating against marriage is just telling everyone that marriage is like putting a gun against your head with the trigger being controlled by the whim of a woman.
[–]ogrejr2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes. That is the point. And getting married gives woman said power. It gives the average man scarcity mentality, makes him concede more and more and more to try and get his woman to be satisfed, and ends with a broken man getting marriage raped by the legal system.
Marriage is a scam. Start a family if you want, but entering into the legal marriage contract is objectively a bad deal.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Getting married gives men the ultimate scarcity mentality. The act of leaving will cost you dearly. You basically select just one woman. If she turns into a piece of shit you are stuck with a piece of shit, and if she leaves you are fucked. If you leave you are fucked.
Women change throughout their lives. I am in my early 30s and most of the women I have known since they were teenagers change drastically every few years. Some of them retained most of their personality but the vast majority of them are constantly taking different shapes (not just older and fatter).
I feel sorry as fuck for a friend of mine who married a bitch when he was 26 and she was 22. He is now 33 and she is 29. On the plus side, she still looks good and gave him two daughters, on the downside she is now an insufferable cunt. Her personality became more controlling, she became greedier (when I first met her she was 17 or 18 and seemed more like a hippy chick). There is no way a guy in his position today would marry a woman like her now if they just met.
The woman you marry when she was 25 may be completely different when she is 31, and she may have an unrecognizably different personality when she is 40. You could be with a 40 year old woman who will be a complete bitch for the rest of your life.

I'm against marriage 2.0 because I understand psychology...and math.
N.B. My primary college girlfriend, wherever she is now, turned 49 this past week. If I'd married her, I'd be married to a 49 year old, and I would, theoretically, have one woman deciding, on any given day, whether I was having sex or not.1
Instead, I am plating 20-26 year old girls. They believe everything I tell them, look great naked, never bitch about anything, and are never too tired for fun. So what have I given up? Marriage? Yes, and good riddance. Children? No, assuming I ever want them. Three of my plates speak openly about wanting to bear my children. The others either don't want kids - yet, that is, I've seen such girls get 'Baby Rabies' as they near the Wall - or have hinted at it/just assumed it.
So given the choice between a stable of young, willing hotties and marriage to a post-Wall chick, even assuming she stayed cool, why would a man ever choose Option B?
1 In fairness to her, back in the day we were, quite literally, fucking morning, noon and night, and I don't recall her ever turning me down. But that was at age 20-21. Now, who knows?

It's underwhelming to see how deluded some red pillers are.
The man of the family leads. The same way leaders of Nations do. The man sets the example, not by using words, but by actions. When he assumes the leading role he is the role model of his family.
When the man is weak, the woman will find a different, strong man and will absord his ideals. His children will also subconsciously search elsewhere for role models. When the man is strong then his woman (plate, wife) and children will absorb his own ideals.
What I'm saying here is that you can't expect your wife to like you much if you are an asshole. As a matter of fact, she is most likely infected by your (and her exes') assholeness and as soon as she's done with you and the tingles are gone, she'll divorce rape you. On the other hand if her experiences were mostly with quality men, then you'll have nothing to be afraid of. Even if ending up divorced, she'll find it too humiliating to ask for unexcused sums of money. Too bad those women are rare... and men ourselves are mostly to blame.
What's worse is that a person's character is mostly whole around his mid 20s, making it extremely taxing to set one back on track. Add to that the immense amount of sexual predators that say and do anything to get laid... no wonder most women end up broken.

So women have no agency and aren't responsible for their actions?

A woman fucks over a man? Not her fault; probably her last boyfriend was an asshole who fucked her over.

People, all people, are guided to become as they are. When people are mistreated by those supposed to guide them, they break. It's that simple, like it or not.
Those plates that "believe everything you say"? How their characters evolve is directly affected by what you say and whether is true or not. The fact that they believe you should already giveaway that.

Those plates that "believe everything you say"?
Oh, if that's your issue, then don't worry; first, I was being less literal than I think you imagine, and second, I am a benevolent dictator. I also come pretty straight with my messages. Two of them know about each other - and are cool with it - and I don't take the "exclusivity pledge" ever. When my most recent plate asked if I was 'seeing other girls' I said, "of course I'm seeing other girls" - this was before we started fucking, when she should have had zero expectation of exclusivity - and the subject has not been brought up again.
Also, as an older guy who has relationships with younger partners, I try to observe the "Campsite Rule" and leave her better than I found her.1 My ex-plates, most of whom I am on good terms with - some have vanished into the mists but with no lasting acrimony that I am aware of - will ask me for advice, etc., about life, etc., which I will happily provide.
The folks who seem most butthurt about how I live my life tend to be older women who think they are "entitled" to provisioning by a man of their age cohort, and younger guys who can't pull, both of which fall into the 'Not My Problem' category. /shrug
1 There is a corresponding "Tea & Sympathy Rule", but I think that's more important for older women and/or gay guys.

You have understood nothing, this isn't about the philosophy being against marriage or anything like that. It's taking an informed look at how marriage in general plays out. The risks involved, the obligations and responsibilities and weighting them against the payout.
And the simple truth is, marriage is an INSANELY rotten deal for men nowadays. There's a reason 70-80% of men aren't getting married anymore. Because it's a game immensely stacked at them which is still made worse by the day.
Most of the laws usually read "for mother and child", this includes laws where they outlawed paternity tests around here on threat of incarceration. Laws where they try to rope you in for alimony simply for having lived with the women in question, because man increasingly refuse to marry. This is very much an ongoing process with them constantly coming up with new ways to screw the husband over. Meanwhile anything men would have derived from a marriage has been abolished long since i.e actually securing a permanent partner for child rearing, as women can't just walk away regardless at any point but are rewarded and encouraged to do so.

There is a separate subreddit specifically for married men that still subscribe to TRP ideas (different moderators), it's not in the sidebar so it's not part of the "TRP network"
I've found good ideas and advice from visiting there.
There is nothing wrong with desiring to be a head of household. I'm 33, I make 150k a year, I'm dating a very feminine and submissive 20 year old woman who I'm currently evaluating to see if she'd be a good mother and wife (all signs point towards yes). I've slept with 150ish women.
I've never taken the easy route through life. Knowing, eyes wide open, that marriage is TRP on hard mode has only encourages me to further look into it.
And yes, back in my blue pill days, where I was dating women at the wall, and single mothers, I was not prepared to get married. When I first found TRP I thought I would never get married. Now, I realize that it is the ultimate way to challenge myself. My frame can not, and will not ever falter. Ever. And I'm ok with that.
[–]antariusz6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
It does. Of the 150ish women I slept with, less than a handful were worthy of a long-term relationship.
If you haven't experienced just how bad most women are, I don't think you are able to properly judge what makes for a "good woman"
I'd say that any man that has slept with less than 20 women should not even be considering any kind of relationship with any woman at all, let alone marriage.

You're not refuting anything, you're screaming and throwing a tantrum. In a way you're in an early stage of leaving TBP mentality. You're currently full of anger, frustration and animosity and you need someone to vent it on. So you came here and took the most obvious target, men who aren't like you and get all the things you don't, who for the most part are actually happy with themselves and made their peace.
And no, hearing with how many women he slept, while you're either married to a harpie making your life living hell each day, as you try to tell yourself that "you're the leader of the nation" and such "have to step back and take responsibility" as they walk all over you and ignore your sacrifices or worse as you're completely alone hurt you. It hurt you a lot, didn't it? Because the opposite mentality, the one that you've been told doesn't work, makes people unhappy and will women hate you is nothing like you've been told. And now you're sitting there, in the ruins of your life as your life long dogma and convictions are crumbling all around you, miserable and angry.

Ones experience with women is not completely irrelevant. You make the worst interpretations of the posts you are responding to, and you act like you have nothing to learn from anyone. Why are you even seeking advice from this community? Because you seem to have it all figured out.
Go marry with someone of your 'intellectual woman' and go show the world that NAWALT, and that you are smarter than the rest of us.
Could you mind explaining how exactly seduction and sex is not intellectual?
Because by all of my personal experiences, many second-hand experiences, recounting historical figures and their experiences (think Cleopatra using sex to eliminate political enemies) and the many books that I've read, seduction and sex seem to be highly intellectual.
I'm curious to hear why you find this not to be the case?

To lay that many women and not get majorly fucked over is pretty impressive. Being able to distinguish which ones are worth an LTR chance shows that he gets to know the women on a deeper level.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Who said he didn't "get fucked over"?
The advice about not getting into any type of relationship until you've slept with 20 different girls is ridiculous. There is a lot to be learned by regularly talking with the same woman. You get more experience with a variety of tests and you get better at sex. You actually learn how to handle a relationship and can understand the pros and cons through experience. To claim that you can't even spin a plate until you've slept with 20 girls is just a flex for how easily he apparently was to pick up women, fast enough that 20 was pre relationship.

You have a 13 year age gap. She is a child compared to you, what the hell could you have in common besides sex. You'll have to date her another 5, hell maybe 8 years to even get a hint of what she will be like as a long term partner much less a wife and mother.
[–]1-TheOutsid3r-7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
At 20 she's a full fledged adult. This entire "she's a child compared to you" being thrown at man who date adult women whom are considerably younger than themselves is basically just gobbling up the defense mechanisms of older women who try to shame guys into staying with them due to age similarities. Obviously nothing of the likes exists if a woman acts this way.
Also, at 28 since you pretend that's how long he'd had to wait for her to manifest her "mother qualities" she isn't getting into the age where she'd start being a mother, it's where she's hitting the last stretch before phasing out.
[–]bokehnikon6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
At 20 she's a full fledged adult
Yes, other variations include "She's such a babbbbyyyyy!!!" At age 18, (in today's military) even a female can make the decision on her own to enlist and die on a battlefield, let alone date a man of her choice.
[–]1-TheOutsid3r-2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
It's basically just a hollow attempt at justifying several things at once, ranging from why girls shouldn't own up to their decisions, to why man shouldn't dare girls of certain ages (but go for the old hags instead), giving them a way to patronize younger girls and so on and on.
[–]saml01-4 points-3 points-2 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I am definitely not saying they shouldnt own up to their decisions. If a 20 year old chick wants to date a 33 year old guy thats on her. But if a guy is looking for wife material he is looking in the wrong place. Unless, he is prepared to spend the next maybe 5 years or more raising her to be the person he needs.
[–]1-TheOutsid3r-4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
How in the world does the correlation of "old = wife material" come to be? You earlier put the time "he'd need to invest" at around 8 years. At which time she'd be 28 at the least and would already be crossing over in the late phase where births and such are confirmed.
You're trying to tell people that somehow "older is better" when in most cases this just means they rode the cock carousel for longer and now are looking for some moron to settle down and provide for them at least till the tingles hit them again. Completely ignoring how many of them have already passed their most fertile and safe years when it comes to birth and such.

[–]antariusz0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yea, lol, I agree, let's agree as guys not to date any woman that is younger than the age of 28, clearly only 30 year old women would make appropriate mothers. Any woman that is in her 20s is far too immature to raise children.
[–]bokehnikon4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
You'll have to date her another 5, hell maybe 8 years to even get a hint of what she will be like as a long term partner much less a wife and mother.
I'd say personality and life experiences are what makes a woman a good mother.
A good mother is: (1) one who knows the logistical/physical aspects of taking care of children. This can be learned. (2) is nurturing, kind, patient, a good role model and teacher.
Now, (2) is highly dependent on personality and experience.
A person's core personality pretty is much well formed by age 18. You don't have to know someone for years to understand their personality.
Experience is the wild card. If a woman spends her early 20s partying, CCing and getting pumped and dumped, she will become jaded, bitter and cynical. Hence, that's why men instinctively prefer younger women (besides the fact they're prettier). Less probability she's damaged goods.
So many past generations married young and had good marriages. There's no need to "wait until she's 28."
[–]saml011 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Women in past generations were raised differently, it was a different time. I'm not saying its impossible to find a 20yr old that meets the criteria you outlined, the problem is more often then not, they don't meet it.
[–]bokehnikon2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Then, according to your previous postings, time and experience will mature the 20yr old into a good wife-mother candidate? The empirical evidence says otherwise.

what the hell could you have in common besides sex
Fundamentally, it's about attraction, not having things "in common." You could have a million things in common (school, hometown, ethnicity, favorite foods, etc.) with a girl but if she doesn't feel the "tingles" then it's "Let's just be friends, we have so much in common!" A Chad comes along and he has nothing in common with her but it's straight to the sack with him.
[–]saml010 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Did you not read he is looking for wife material?
Is attraction not a common trait between two people?
School? the guy is 33 and she is 20. What school do they have in common? hometown, ethnicity, favorite foods are the things two kids look for in each other when they want to have a good time. Even then, you dont need these things in common because opposites attract too. So at its core, these are not things that a grown adult looks for when planning a long term relationship, marriage and kids with someone else.
[–]bokehnikon2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Even then, you dont need these things in common because opposites attract
Then why are you asking "What could you have in common besides sex?" I guess we're both agreeing it's about attraction that matters, not common traits or lack of common traits. Hence, if a 22 year old female is attracted to a 35 year male old so be it.
[–]1StoicCrane2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
TRP is just a toolset to reap sexual benefits as a male in a feminized society. Marriage might be discouraged because of legal inequities but if the desire is present no reason to dissuade others against it as long as they're aware of the potential consequences.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Also, invest into gambling. Gamble a modest sum away and join gamblers anonymous. Make sure there's a record of that. If she starts cheating you liquidate everything, hide the cash in a friend's safe and just say you relapsed when you found out. Move out of the country (assuming it's the USA or one of the European matriarchies) and when the kids visit you keep them. (this statement is for entertainment purposes only, hiding your assets is illegal in an increasing number of countries worldwide)
And don't own the house, it's better to rent. That way you don't lose a massive chunk of your property when she gets the house.

Marriage is too big a risk.
In a relationship a man offers commitment in return for sex. A women offers sex in return for commitment. In a relationship a man's power comes from the ability to leave, a woman's power comes from withholding sex.
Getting married removes your ability to leave as it costs you half your assets and more. This screws the power balans in her favour. Because of this a marriage requires constant work and a good amount of luck. That is why TRP advises people to not get married, it's gambling with your life at terrible odds.
Now if someone has the life goal of starting a traditional family maybe the gamble is worth it. In that case he has to get his game and specifically LTR game on point (practice) and became a strong, high value man who has his life in order. That will help reduce the risk of a failed marriage a bit. From there its a question of screening for a decent woman. I'd say you need to go through at least 10 decently long LTRs for experience and do some research on what to look for in girls.
BTW. All that work can be undone by a little bit of complacency, some bad luck and the pool boy walking in at the right moment. Your call.

A lot of butthurt guys never left the anger phase and are against the idea of entering a contract with a woman where she can legally tale half your shit. Any guy who says they're cool with marriage generally gets downvoted to hell so since it gets ignored most guys don't bring it up. Eventually I'll get married but the girl I marry will have checked off all the boxes and met my criteria. Just be smart about it instead of hopping into a marriage like just about every guy who gets fucked over. I know plenty of alpha guys who marry and live awesome lives. I also know beta chumps who get cheated on and are miserable.

I am not so sure why TRP pill acts like men who want to get married are just beta's. It makes me feel like I am part of a forum full of teens and guys in college. I also thought it was dumb to get married when i was young.
To be clear, getting married (at least in western society*) is not Beta (in the sense that natural Alphas also sometimes get married). Rather, getting married is Bluepill (in the sense that it means you fail to comprehend how the world REALLY works, aka Redpill).
But I am a man now, I WANT to be the head of a family and i want my kids to have a mom and dad raise them. I think being the leader of a family is a very masculine thing to do.
I too feel that being the head-of-family is indeed a masculine thing to do. The problem is that getting married is the FASTEST way to lose head-of-family status.
In western society*, once you're married, your wife can divorce you, take the family home, take half your paycheque for alimony, take sole custody of all your children, take the remaining half of your paycheque as child support (so total 3/4 your paycheque), and if she feels like it, throw in charges of domestic abuse for good measure. In practical terms, she has NOTHING to lose from a divorce. For her, its almost like pressing a button, and then you disappear from her life, but her lifestyle remains unchanged, and your money keeps flowing in.
Even if you cohabit without marriage (i.e. no alimony, and you keep the family home if it is solely in your name), if you have children, she can still sue for sole custody of the children and take 1/3 your paycheque for child support. So its still fairly dangerous, but less dangerous than marriage.
And because she wields this kind of power over you, she can use the THREAT of divorce (or the threat of taking the children away if you cohabit), to seize head-of-family status for herself. And of course, once you've lost head-of-family status, she has even LESS respect for you, to the extent that even if you do everything she says, she may divorce you anyway, just because "you're not the man you were, when she married you". Rare is the woman who will not be corrupted by this near absolute power, so rare that we call them "unicorns".
In some (though not all) circumstances, a redpill man can keep the wife reasonable, by pretending that he isn't afraid to walk away.
That is a misconception. TRP has nothing against marriage in and of itself. Rather, TRP is against marriage in western society* due to divorce rape laws. This is sometimes called Marriage 1.0 vs Marriage 2.0.
As for raising a family, opinions here are divided. Some here think that children aren't worth the trouble. Others (including me) aspire to have them someday, although perhaps, not within a marriage. See here: http://illimitablemen.com/2016/01/22/the-choice/
*Obviously, if you live in a society that does not have western-style divorce rape laws, then this does not apply to you... yet. However keep in mind that the rest of the world tends to want to emulate the west, so even if your society does not currently have divorce rape laws, it could well wind up with them someday.
[–]1Entropy-75 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I live in China. The divorce rate topped 4% a year and that is considered a national crisis. However, in Shanghai, the divorce rate is 35% because the women are more westernized.
[–]1Jax777890 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I have pondered over that some months ago and found an answer. As per Rollo Tomassi the reason not to marry is that it offers you nothing that you do not already have in an LTR.

If you want to be truly redpill, ignore the boyish preprogrammed responses you'll get from a bunch of forum goers looking for advice on the next lay. Raising a family with a woman without the contractual bounds of marriage is possible and can be as stable as any other married relationship. Marriage is not a requirement for a strong ltr.
Know if your goal is to have kids, in the US it matters not that you are technically single. You have a legal fiduciary responsibility that is court enforceable as a parent. The only bullet you dodge is equitable asset split and alimony.
No one's writing books about being alpha AF while raising a family. Your goals will conflict if you maintain hot lays are as important as siring children. Women's bodies temporarily change and hormonal influence continues on while breastfeeding.
Just be sure you have your shit together, are ready for the commitment before you leap. And when you do remember always your kids are most important. Also don't get lazy with the self improvement as a parent. Even children will shit test you from a relatively early age.

Best advice: procreate with an already wealthy woman who wants the same things in life as you. The already wealthy part negates most of the bullshit laws against men. Only mostly though, you can still get screwed but not by much.
Then you take the risk and you pray. It's a one in a million type of situation.

I never said anything about being a beta.
The state will make you a beta if you get married. You're entering a partnership where failure actually helps your partner and destroys your life. Imagine paying all your extra cash every month for child support and living in an apartment while your old lady lives like a single person around your kids.
I've seen it time and time again.
Also, marriage never used to be so lopsided against men.
I can tell you're going to fuck this up just by your attitude. So I'm just going to say this again: Never. Get. Married.
What you need to remember is that while getting divorced is a raw deal for men, the chance of actually having it happen is much lower than reported. It's stated at around 30% for first time marriages and a whole lot of those are just plain idiots. You've got religious people getting married only so they can have sex, people getting married because they're pregnant, etc.
I'm not able to find the source right now but do some googling and you'll find a breakdown of risk factors for divorce. It's not hard to get the probability down into single digits.
Seriously, most people who get divorced do so because they don't even listen to the preacher. Every wedding I've been to the guy has said something along the lines of "this union is not to be entered into lightly, but with great thought and care." Too many people get married without really thinking it through and that's why so many get divorced.

I am against marriage but not against raising a family.
Marriage has been destroyed by the western feminist politicians.

TRP isn't about things "working on women" it's about becoming a better man by allowing yourself to have principles, goals, standards and enough knowledge to lead the life YOU want to lead.
Go get married and have kids if you want. Give me a few reasons why it won't be a disaster. Did you fix the mistakes you made during your last relationship? The one you got fat in? If not you may make them again.

If you choose to get married then choose carefully. Once you get divorced you may have to pay alimony or bare the stigma of divorce in society. A man may have also settled for an unsatisfying marriage and be unhappy.
[–]sprouu 1 points1 points1 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
There is no stigma in divorce.
More stigma being mid 40s and never married than being divorced.
[–]TruthOverLiez0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes there is stigma to divorce. It's a label on your profile that will filter out potential long term mates. Assuming everything is the same the person who isn't divorced will get more mates than someone who is

You're borderline moralizing with your post but it's understandable since it's some deep insecurity you have:
the philosophy says something is wrong with me, not it?
TRP's stance on marriage has nothing to do about "being a man" or "being alpha". It's about recognizing an extremely one-sided government enforced contract and becoming aware of the massive amount of brainwashing (media, social pressure) out to pressure guys to sign blindly. Your post here contains much of the usual rhetoric. "Don't you want kids? Being head of a family is masculine, blah blah blah".
It's a contract, with only risks, and no tangible upside. It's a stupid idea. If you want family, do so through community institutions and not the government.
Well, isn't the goal to be such an alpha that your girl is not going to want to leave you? Isn't half of being an alpha having the confidence to make a girl yours in a way that your practically own her?, to win her over to the point so she will never want to leave? That is my goal.
You misunderstand the entire concept of alpha. It does not mean you gain control of others. It does not mean you can seduce anyone you like anywhere, and own them forever. It means seeing that such control does not exist. It simply means having control of yourself. Thinking for yourself. It means never "winning" anybody over because they are not the prize.

getting married/raising a family
its not that synonymous anymore, getting MARRIED is for the system, while RAISING A FAMILY is for mans natures call, provided that one is mentally/financially capable to maintain it.
[–]theeverywhereman 1 points1 points1 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
You can get everything in life without the trouble of marriage so why would I?
[–]bokehnikon1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link
the same way humans have been doing it for thousands of years.
I think you're implying the nuclear family marriage has been around for thousands of years.
First, one point of TRP is that the traditional mores and rules of the past are GONE, thrown out of the window by the modern woman. So, what happened for "thousands of years" in traditional societies is irrelevant.
Actually, for thousands of years and most of history people lived in hunter-gatherer tribes. The whole tribe took care of kids and sex was less restricted (according to some studies). There was no contractual marriage.
After agriculture and civilization arose, powerful men would amass harems. Lesser powerful men might amass smaller harems. Famers and slaves would get one fugly wife.

Have you stopped to question why you might want to raise a family?
With 6+ billion people on this Earth, and plenty already doing so, maybe you can justify why you should? Why do you deserve to?
I can't justify the cost of procreating.
[–]Frigzy2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link
Unfortunately it is those who do not even consider justification in the first place who end up procreating.
That on itself might be a reason to father children who stand for something.

Don't marry a cunt. Find a woman from stable parents and as little baggage as possible at the age of 23-26.
Don't get married until you sow your seed over alot of women. Nothin sadder than an old man who never lived.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You can never win her over to the point where she doesn't want to leave. That's not how female nature works. They all leave. Its how they're programmed. The only way to keep a woman from cheating is being the most high value man in the world & keeping her attached to you at all times, 24/7 365. Otherwise she's gonna cheat.
TL;DR: all women cheat, all of them leave, enjoy the decline.
You need to do more reading. You're being downvoted for total lack of understanding and male hamstering.

Why do you have to be married to raise a family?
Can you and a women not coinhabit a dwelling while raising children without involving the state in a arbitrary ceremony?
[–]1Entropy-70 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
For one, it is statistically proven that cohabitation is much less stable than a legal marriage. For two, you are in a better legal position regarding your kids if you are married. For three - depending on the jurisdiction you are in - it may not matter if you are legally married or not: the state will be involved in it.
On the third point as a for instance, in the province of Manitoba there is basically no difference between legal marriage and "common law" marriage. If you shack up with a woman for two years and have kids, pretty much all the laws regarding married couples kick in, including alimony and property division.
[–]Apexk9-1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
There's always loopholes.
Plus in Canada it ain't as bad as the states
[–]1Entropy-70 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There are no loopholes are actually legal. A domestic contract (prenup or cohabitation agreement) can soften the blow but they are hard to draft and manage. If you spend equal time with your kids and you have equal incomes then if it all falls apart everything will get split 50/50 and there will be no support obligations other than to take care of your kids.
Hiding income or assets is illegal.
I don't know the specifics of the laws in the states but I have heard a lot more horror stories, although my understanding is that there is no common law marriage or palimony in NY.
[–]Apexk90 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The loophole is that you have to be in a relationship of some permanence.
