I often wonder what made men/dating change so much over the last few decades. My parents never had to deal with this. Is it online dating and the belief that people are disposable? Is it increased access to hardcore porn leaving men the impression that we are just commodities? Is it poor parenting? Is it a perfect storm of everything? I'm in a decent relationship now but still follow these forums because of a really bad one I was in a few years ago that mentally broke me. It's shocking that so many other women have gone or are going through exactly what I did, as though it's completely normal. We deserve better than this shit.

AMEN. It does not get better. I once fell into the trap of thinking that he and I were "special" somehow. I could list 30 reasons why our situation was different and the rules didn't apply to us. Yes, we were special. And yes, in many ways the devil is in the details. But, no, we weren't so special that the rules didn't apply. Neither are you. Get out now because it WILL ONLY GET WORSE.

This was the sign I needed today. Like a clown, I went back to my ex and he was doing the same old shit again within the first month of “re-kindling” things. It doesn’t hurt as much this time around but I definitely needed a good kick to realize. Shame on me.

This is so true! Although I will say I have seen a change in behavior (minor things though) from considerate guys! If he cares he’ll be willing to stop doing minor thing that bothers you while he’s around you. I have no idea if this would hold up long term though, since things with these guys didn’t work out for other reasons!
