A perfect example of a career path where men milk women out of money is nursing.

Nurses in my state make a solid $60-80k a year after graduation, and can easily make $80-110k with experience if they work in a high paying environment and even more if they work a lot of overtime or go back to school.

This is the perfect recipe for finding a man who uses you for your money.

First off, nursing is often not prestigious enough to attract top high value providers. The days of the young at nurse meeting a handsome provider surgeon while working at the icu, securing her future as an upper middle class SAHM died like 25 years ago. That handsome surgeon? He wants a female doctor, maybe an internist or something. He’s not going to provide for a SAHM. He has like $300k in student loans to pay off. Lastly, a lot of doctors are from cultures that expect their sons to marry women from equally prestigious careers and/ or get arranged marriages.

Secondly, nursing doesn’t pay enough to raise a family in an comfortable middle class environment. It makes enough money for a family to not starve, but you won’t be making enough money to buy a house and pay for your kids’ college on that one income alone. So you can’t say “oh but she makes enough money to support the whole family, so it’s ok” the way you would with a female doctor pulling $200k+ a year.

Third, nursing work sucks. It’s dirty. It’s very very very stressful and busy. In the hospital, you’re on your feet for 12+ hours a day dealing with shit charting systems, families who may be upset, doctors who are pompous and rude, protocols that can be confusing, no breaks, holding your pee in, wiping poop, taking orders, etc. In the nursing home you’re balancing a deadly caseload and putting your license on the line. In psych/ jail/ ER you’re at constant risk for being assaulted. AND YOURE EXHAUSTING YOURSELF AND DESTROYING YOUR BODY MUCH OF THE TIME BY WORKING NIGHTS. And weekends.

Combine all those things and you become a magnet for low value men who see that you’re a nurse and with baited breath wait for you to maintain a relationship with them where your $100k a a year ass is supporting their $50k a year ass.

You get into a situation where you can’t get out. You can’t step down into a specialty with less stress but less money because your husband and kids depend on you financially. You can’t switch to days because your husband and kids needs the $2 more an hour and you have to watch the kids in the day anyways. You can’t go part time because you’re the breadwinner. You can’t switch careers because everyone depends on you.

Oh and at the same time “you only work 3 days a week so you should do all the housework”.

99% of men who marry nurses wouldn’t marry them if they were pursuing their dreams in a lower paying but more pleasant career. Why? Because they want their wives for the money.
