I’ve been trying to understand why FDS insists women don’t pay for dates and this post reminded that our (people’s time) is expensive so I can see the appeal in that.

Exactly this. There’s all the stuff about women earning less, and doing more, etc. That’s true and fine but my reasons for not going 50/50 on dates are 1) I’m attracted to generosity and 2) because I’m looking for a relationship. I tell him this openly and honestly from the beginning. Now, some men say that they’re looking for a relationship when they’re really just looking to hook up. I can cOmMuNiCaTe what I want but hook up artists have learned to lie and say whatever is most likely to get them their goal. How then, can I know if a man is truly interested in knowing and being with me? If he invests.
If I make my time scarce and expensive it naturally weeds out the ones I don’t want and men who find value in me will see the cost and effort as no problem at all. Win/win

I really like this comment. If you are confident in your vetting skills, there should be no fear of telling men you're looking for a relationship. A HVM will be glad you're on the same page and a LVM - despite talking a good game - will bounce when several months have passed and his wallet is empty and his dick still dry.
