Ok so there’s a bit of misinformation in this post. YES get the vaccine! But that only protects you from the strains of HPV that cause cancer. You can still have cell changes even if you’ve been vaccinated, there are 100+ strains of HPV and regardless of the vaccine you can still get genital warts which are very common. I dislike posts like this because they do not go in-depth and spread misinformation, get the vaccine but HPV can still get around, men are the main spreaders and yes they have no test for them.

EDIT: You can always have HPV even if it doesn’t read in your cell changes when you have your test. It could be that your body is suppressing it.

***Edit: if you are going to post about STIs please be very careful and research it before posting anecdotes! Posts like this just demonise the women who unfortunately got it - at no fault of their own!!

Edit: also getting Pap smear every year is totally unnecessary, do not feel pressure to get it every year **unless your doctor recommends because of abnormal cells and your scheduled check-ups. Even if you do get it, there is nothing they can do, the doctor just makes you wait another year and they make you take the test again to see if your cells have gone back to normal.

PSA: I always pop into these threads to quickly mention that HPV can come from any membrane to membrane contact, so not just PIV / anal / oral sex, but also french kissing. When I was diagnosed with a ton of cancer causing strains (I was never vaccinated because my parents didn't believe in the vaccine), I asked my doctor how I could have gotten it because I wasn't sexually active for years - all I did was make out with strangers a lot in clubs. She said that was likely the cause and that most women don't realize you can get it just from activities like that. And, since it is so common, we should just assume all men carry it. Additionally, it can transfer even with the use of condoms.

Men don't get vaccinated for a disease that affecte their wifes, gilfriend, daughter and theyre so casual about it. France its recommended for girls but not for boys...

I mean at least it should make them think about how unbothered men are with women and their bodies health. We know this disease exist and everyone can carry it regardless if you have symptomes, out of consideration for others you should get vaccinated.

Its like having asymptomatic HIV and not doing something about it.

This reminds me of the show Girls on HBO. I believe it was the first episode the main character told the guy to put a condom on before having sex, but he only pretended to put it on and threw it over his shoulder. She ended up getting HPV. Point is guys do shit like this all the time and there other diseases besides HPV you can catch. Please just don’t even have sex with them until you’ve vetted them hard for a long time

Given that a lot of scrotes don't even wash their limp dicks between hookups or affairs, it's safe to say that men may be the hpv superspreaders.

I got my son vaccinated the week he hit the minimum age, which I think at the time was 11. Maybe 13? Either way, I insisted.

When my vaginal swab came back positive for two types of HPV I booked in a course of vaccinations. I turn 27 next month and I just got my first dose. I've only had PIV sex with 3 guys so hopefully its not too late.. Even if you're sexually active get the vaccine anyway cos chances are you won't catch all the strains and the vaccine will protect you from the others

I'm so frustrated by the HPV vaccine. It came out when I was about 16 and not sexually active yet. I asked my dr about it and she dismissed me and said it wasn't that useful and she didn't recommend it. My mom and I didn't know better, so we accepted it.

Years later, my gynos were appalled I hadn't got it, and now I've (a) almost certainly been exposed, and (b) am over the age recommendation.

This is beside the point, but it just makes me so angry at that doctor. I have to live with a higher risk of cancer because one doctor decided she didn't want to research a new vaccine.

Why do women even have so much heterosexual sex when it odds are stacked against us and we don’t even finish 8 out of 10 times? I know social conditioning and patriarchy but I’m still baffled at how many women continue to do it even after they realize it just sucks. Very strange phenomenon 🤷🏾‍♀️

As many other women have noted re: vaccination and pap smear advice, we do not all live in the United States of America, and vaccination approaches and pap smear advice varies.

Education is awesome for all of us, but assuming that advice given in one country is best practice, or that poor practice is one country is widespread, can be misleading.

Generally the US tends to have pretty woeful public healthcare approaches, especially for women, whereas many other countries are more liberal, supportive of women and enshrining their healthcare in practice and legislation.
