I have a friend who had one child with a woman who went and got married with 2 more children, willingly underworked and relied on both her husband and child support financially. The courts took almost half his income because of this, didn’t give a shit that she wasn’t doing her part and relying on someone else’s income, which made the support order higher because they will only go off what she willingly makes. But yet I am hearing the courts will go and “impute income” if the man wants to underwork. Such BS

I have a friend whose wife left him while pregnant with their third child. She remarried within a year and they both have really good jobs. My friend’s underwater on his home, driving a broken down car, and his ex will continue to collect child support for another 15 years.

You can, however, petition the court to reduce your child support amount if she now has an increase in household income on her end.

Alimony disappears when the spouse remarries, but child support goes until the child reaches 18.

Your ex partner being able to afford it all if you lose your job and stopped paying doesn’t give you a free pass. It’s fair you pay part of what it takes to raise your child.

Still, the moment they married he didn’t take paternal responsibility off your hands. You’re still the father, he isn’t.

From what I can tell in the link you posted which shows (a very brief and short summary of the laws) it seems to me that, if you want parental rights then it follows that you must also oblige with parental obligations; if you do not want the obligations then you must also revoke your rights.

Assuming that this works both ways in respect to gender, it sounds quite fair to me, unless I misinterpreted something.

Since they married, she benefits from their combined income. A reductio ad absurdum argument could go like this: say she was purely a stay-at-home mom and her husband a billionaire, then she would still indirectly get paid from her husband's salary, even if she wasn't earning anything on paper. It would not be fair if she wasn't liable to pay child support if hypothetically the child lived with you, so following that we have to take into account the combined income.

This doesn't absolve you of your responsibility. Instead this would mean that their combined income should be taken into account when determining how much child support you should have to pay. Only that would be fair, and any rational mind should be able to see that.
