One of the biggest mistakes made before World War II was not taking threats of genocide seriously. In Hitler's Mein Kampf he spelled out his ideas that he regarded Jews as subhuman and that it would be justifiable to have them all murdered. Later, when Hitler was actually running for office, people dismissed his radical ideas from his book, claiming that they were hyperbole and that when Hitler had to share power in Germany's then-Democratic system, he would calm down. We all know he didn't.

A feminist manifesto advocating the murder of all but 10% of men exists. It's known as The SCUM Manifesto. Its author actually did attempt to murder a man. Feminists like to dismiss this document as a parody or a type of dark humor, but they can never explain why then did its author actually attempt to murder a man? Given that the hate from this manifesto actually exists, and its author actually did attempt violence, we should indeed take seriously the fact that so many feminists go around saying "kill all men." They claim they're joking, and some of them might be, but I believe that shows what's really in their hearts. It shows their genuine hatred for men that they could use such a thing as a slogan and think that genocide is somehow funny. I believe the more extreme among the feminists would do more than harbor hatred in their hearts and joke about genocide. Some would actually become violent, like the author of SCUM did.

If I ever see a feminist "joking" by saying "kill all men," I know to be prepared to defend myself if necessary. I will first defend myself with words. If someone actually thinks that kind of hate speech is funny, she'll get an ear full from me about what a hateful, bigoted, and disgusting human being that she is. And if she ever does actually come after me with violence, I will defend my life with whatever force is necessary to save it.

Let's talk about how feminists is responsibility to many men's and children's death by invisibilizing male victims and female perpetrators and by fighting against talks about male issues . Would they be ok if we said:

Because 1 out of 5 women is the victim of rape or attempted rape. #rapeallwomen is taking an actual, real thing that women fear and experience on a daily basis and making it into some fucked, ominous joke. Men generally don’t fear being killed by women. Women generally fear being raped by men.

Because men aren't the majority victims of every category of violent crime or anything (it's thought that if prisoners are included, then men could be the majority victims of rape too)...

These people are completely divorced from reality. Their views have no foundation and are just self-referencing/circular bull. Saying that women are more afraid when men are the majority victims and that justifies womens' bad behavior just means you value feelings (feelings that have no connection to fact) more than actual facts and you excuse bad behavior with said feelings.

Nah. Sexist jokes against men and women can both be funny given a good set up and punch line (and a good sense of humor. Gotta know who you're talking to.) Similarly rape jokes are the same. (Jim Jeffries has a pretty good bit about the rape joke topic exactly.)

The difference about the #killallmen is that it's widely used as a replacement for "fuck men" or "men are garbage." (Sure there's funny ones where it's a hyperbole statement. My fiance cracks those sometimes and they're genuinely funny.) No nonsexist/edgy man has ever said "#RapeAllWomen" Even in a hyperbolic way because we know the result of that joke is obvious to anyone that can read that statement.

I said that that phrase was not productive in the fight for equality. My friend said i shouldn't get offended because it didn't literally mean to kill all men, but when I asked her what it actually meant, she just went "oh whatever, I don't even care about this any more."

#killallmen is sort of a thought-terminating cliche, exactly like "yes all men", "defund the police" and "black lives matter". Beyond virtue signalling, it's not meant to mean anything; its purpose is to shut down the conversation and cause you to be ostracized if you also don't chant it. Trying to talk about it is supposed to make you feel bad and outcast. It's literally a Maoist propaganda technique.

#killallmen, and the fact that dissenting makes you a misogynist or whatever, should more than anything demonstrate that women are in fact privileged over men, and feminism isn't a "fringe" concern anymore. Imagine replacing "men" in #killallmen with women, or any race (except maybe 'white').

These are forwarded as meaningful slogans, but actually it doesn't mean anything substantive at all, as you found out when you asked her what it means if it's not meant to be taken literally. It's like no one can agree what "defund the police" means/meant, (although it was totally literal at the outset) and how if you say you disagree with something BLM says, people can go "does that mean you don't believe black lives matter?!".

Most people don't use these cynically -- they just like to shout it because they're mad and self-righteous, they want to feel powerful as a part of an angry mob, and they want to hurt your feelings if you don't agree. But the people who create these slogans often know exactly what they're doing in creating them and shaping the discourse in such a way that there can be no good faith conversation around them.

When men make rape jokes, feminists and indeed the joking men themselves may not realize that they are joking about something which happens to both sexes. The post over on the AskFeminists sub writes as if rape jokes are fundamentally and inherently male humor at the expense of the female, when it's most likely really just a coping mechanism to deal with an unpleasant thought. The feminists just interpret it as punching down comedy.

"Kill all men" is explicitly gendered, however, and I think that the assertion that women are automatically the underclass here falters on a few levels depending on how one defines the underclass. Is it the class a fraction of a percent of which are billionaires and heads of state (men), with more than a handful of the other sex right there with them? Is it the class who form the vast majority of the homeless (men)? Is it the class the species is biologically hardwired to protect and comfort for the sake of population continuity (women)? These are only a few of the possible perspectives.

It's a nice defense to hide behind, but, MRA critics will point out that all they (MRAs) ever do is attack and put down feminism, making them no "better" than those they "claim" to be. They make this accusation as if there's no overlap, link or correlation between feminism and misandry, when in fact punishing, abusing, mistreating, hating and discriminating against men and boys is a big part of what feminism's always been about. ALWAYS. Not about equality in the first wave, not in the second, and definitely not in the third or fourth. When MRAs cannot talk about their issues because feminists protest them, call their words hate speech and pull the fire alarm in the building holding their meetings, they leave precious little room to speak out on men's issues WITHOUT mentioning or criticizing feminism.
