I recently read some study claiming women should date men who are a little more attractive than them because it makes for a healthy relationship and I'm starting to believe this is some truth to it, (mostly based on my own experiences)

I have dated one guy who I perceived as a little more attractive than me, and he gave me great compliments and made me feel beautiful. We broke up but he tried to get me back twice. On the contrary, I've dated maybe 2 guys that could be considered a little below my league.. One of these guys told me I was the most beautiful girl he had ever been with, but he also randomly would tell me something I wore was ugly, or just make random passive aggressive insults. Anotber guy would compliment other women he knew, or just random celebrities, but he rarely complimented me. When I asked him why he did this, he said "I like to make people feel good".. But it made no sense because he was not telling these women these compliments- he was just saying them to me. Odd too because I saw some of the women he conplimented (coworkers, old friends) and they were not as good looking as he described. I think he basically lied about these women's looks to make me feel threatened. He was also constantly worried I would cheat on him.

So long story short- with the two men I perceived as a little below my league.. I didn't feel very beautiful. With tbe guy out of my league, I felt sexy as hell.

So, is this like.. A thing? Do men actually treat women better when they're either in their league or below it, because they're comfortable with these women and don't feel threatened by them? I also had a friend who I perceived as more beautiful than her boyfriend, and the dude jokingly called her a pig, even though she was thin, and he was on the chubby side. I don't know.. I'm starting to believe this theory is true in some cases. You would think a man would treat an "out of his league" woman better, but I think it makes a lot of men insecure that they'll leave or cheat, so they end up treating them worse because they're "on edge" around said woman.
