So basically this is the “video games cause mass shootings “ argument for porn.

[–]i_reckon_not 64 points65 points66 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's also the "dungeons and dragons causes satanism and suicide" for porn.

[–]nonrequested 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'd always doubted the true nature of the halflings lol

[–]Ashenox 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Friend plays halfling Monk. Made me giggle.

[–]shit-zen-giggles 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, no. It's the satanic abuse in daycares that causes all of this.

[–]Deathstrike3000-2 points 7 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Video games barely has any bad influence on people. I'm against porn too but they most certainly don't care about porn contributing to sex crimes, which it actually does.

[–]Brusanan 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Porn reduces sex crimes.

[–]Standard_Rules_Apply 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anecdotal?

[–]KDulius 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All evidence has shown that free access to porn, even the hardcore bdsm stuff reduces sex crimes

[–][deleted] 72 points73 points74 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

But the fastest growing group of porn watchers is women.

[–]Mackowatosc53 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

its not the same to them ;) female porn is holy, its just male porn thats bad.

[–]altruisticnarcissist 31 points32 points33 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Prime example. Celeb fakes have been around for years, there was just a "major scandal" last year with that DeepFakes shit, but when women make celeb fake porn of men it's "art" and "empowering".

[–]nisutapasion 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The problem with deepfake is that they are getting very good at faking videos.

In the future distinguishing between a real and fake video will be imposible for most people.

Imagine a world where, with just a few fotos of someone you can fabricate videos of them doing what ever you want.

In the other hand, any leaked video can be brushed off by saying it's fake.

[–]Ashenox 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'd honestly have to say we're already at that point. People were already pumping out hard to distinguish content two years ago. We just haven't had any thing pop up big enough where it would become prevalent in the public eye.

It does certainly make Video "Evidence" much less reliable.

[–]nisutapasion 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the future video evidence will require to be analyzed by software to attest it authenticity.

[–]_pseudodragon 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and I thought the female version of porn was romance novels

[–]Ramah-s92 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

+ they are statistically more prone to watch brutal porn

[–]rsaralaya 47 points48 points49 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What about instagram and facebook? Both cause depression.

But that’s okay though.

[–]Ashenox 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Iiving my best life = I'm broken and depressed but I need y'all to think I've got my shit together.

[–]goodmod 34 points35 points36 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I think I remember a study that was done some years ago (possibly in the Netherlands?) which showed that when the availability of porn increased, the number of rapes decreased.

It would be good if we could find that study and use it to campaign against this proposal.

[–]GunOfSod26 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes the study followed the effects of the introduction of easily available pornography into an Eastern European country, and it found the rate of sexual abuse and rape plummeted.

[–]goodmod 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It would be very useful to have that right now - and to copy it before it mysteriously vanishes.

Would you be able to find it, please? I'll look for it too.

Suggesting that women don't watch porn...

Know of plenty of women who confess to watching it! Will it be banned because it's harmful to women? Probably not.

It's like the whole dildos vs male masturbation aid bullshit. Dildos and female masturbation aids are healthy and acceptable, but male equivalents are deemed dirty or weird. Fucking double standards man.

[–]nisutapasion 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fucking double standards

Literally

[–]Wisemanner 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So, one male murderer means ALL males should be prevented from accessing porn? This move should be seen for what it is - another attempt to reduce men's rights. The Women's Committee (to give it it's correct name) will not stop here. It will continue to try to reduce the freedom of male citizens. You can be certain no moves will be made to reduce female freedoms. If male politicians give in to this, they are even stupider than I thought.

[–]Philip8000 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, as a card-carrying member of the Patriarchy, it's time to watch more porn!

I am sure this is a lot of it. The average age of a young person losing their virginity has gone way up.

There are lots or reports stating that young people do not have sex nearly as much as an older generation.

STD's have fallen. teenage pregnancy is virtually non existent now.

There are lots of reports of boys not pursuing girls any more. Boys are not asking girls to go on dates. All the evidence points to this as well.

There are lots of reports of women and girls killing themselves because they cannot find a long term partner.

I do believe that porn has radically changed the dating game in favour of boys.

[–]Ashenox 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It absolutely has switched things in our favor. Decisions about women and involving women can be made with a calm clear head because I can get my sexual desires out of the way. I'm not bogged down thinking about the sex and can focus on who she is as a person.

It's seriously helped me avoid some horrible relationships that I would have ended up in because the sex was good.

[–]furchfur[S] 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely correct. I talked to a stripper a few years back about this. In the UK nearly

all the strip clubs have closed. She says that guys just do not go to strip clubs because of online porn which of course is free.

I suspect this is the same with prostitution as well. Demand is not as great as it use to be.

[–]BernieSandersgirl101 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What happens if women look at porn under this new law? Will they put their money where their mouths are and apply it to women too or is this going to be yet another anti male law?! Just wondering.

[–]MayaMordle 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this sounds ridiculously wrong. cigarettes are the leading cause of death. porn is just a little bit gross sometimes.

[–]mikesteane 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This true if, and only if, the comparison is between watching porn and watching cigarettes.

[–]lostapwbm 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The MPs insisted ‘public places must be made safe for all women and girls’ as they called for a ban on viewing adult material on mobile phones on buses.

Just out of morbid curiosity, is there anything that CAN'T be justified by 'women and girls'?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you put the feminist spin on it, I can't think of a single thing. Had a girl I go to high school with make a piece about a decade ago when she got her journalism degree and she was on a relatively well-known radio broadcast talking about how "Fracking is harming women." I shit you not.

[–]KDulius 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

no..

even curtailing women and girls freedom.

No really, that's the justification behind the burkha and not allowing women to drive; to protect them from rapey rapey men

[–]Goddamnedengineer 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Same as prostitution. Women want to be the ONLY resource for men so they can still be needed. They want to rely on that pussy power instead of merits of men. #equality.

[–]Ashenox 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It really comes down the the marriage dynamic. Men had to get married to have sex reliably and safely, and the quality of masterbation was super low due to lack of available resources. With the introduction of porn to society Men can sexually please themselves more effectively and the addition of super high quality sex dolls further pushes men away from the Marriage Dynamic.

If men can get sex or sexual pleasure anywhere and when ever, then women who wish to just be a house wife now have a harder time. They need to find a man who isn't confident in his own ability to please himself or can't easily access sexual services or toys.

Edit: forgot to mention love cause love does happen.

The entire fight Feminist have with porn is the same Religious people do. They want the family dynamic so women can keep their gender roles. Although for them they do this while espousing a desire to change and break from the norms.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45942447

The most disturbing thing in the BBC article is this list:

Next steps The report outlined seven key recommendations to tackle street harassment:

Force train and bus operators to take tougher action against sexual harassment and block the viewing of pornography on public transport

Ban all non-consensual sharing of intimate images

Publish a new "Violence Against Women and Girls" strategy

Create a public campaign to change attitudes

Take an evidence-based approach to addressing the harms of pornography, along the lines of road safety or anti-smoking campaigns

Tougher laws to ensure pub landlords take action on sexual harassment - and make local authorities consult women's groups before licensing strip clubs

Make it a legal obligation for universities to have policies outlawing sexual harassment

[–]Clemicus 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don’t understand all of the comments here. I have loved watching porn since I was 13. I’m 42 now. It’s never ruined any relationship I’ve been in. The only downside was that a couple girlfriends got really pissed when they knew I was watching it. But that’s on them and their insecurity. I’m in a great relationship now. My girlfriend and I BOTH watch porn. Just not together. It’s never an issue because we know it’s just an aid for our biological desires if the other one isn’t around. I KNOW I would’ve cheated if I didn’t have it. There have been times I was tempted, went home and just took care of it with some good ol fashion video satisfaction.

I think porn is one of the greatest things ever given to our society. Before that, only sultans, kings, and perhaps queens have ever been privy to so much nakedness. That is never lost on me.

If people get addicted, it’s a symptom of something else. Just like ALL addictions. People can get addicted to licking fences. A good deal of people are just messed up in this world and NEWS FLASH!, that will never end no matter how PC you try and make it. So, for the majority of us that like porn (and yes, it’s female and male majority) leave porn alone. It’s a wonderful thing bestowed upon us.

If you REALLY want to see men get off the streets and protest feminism, take away the porn. They won’t say it’s about that, but men will finally see the mobilized backlash they’ve been desperately wanting! Hahahaha!

[–]Ogg66 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I have never been a watcher, it does the opposite to me finding it a real turn off, but the wife watches it and I'm fine with that. I have never bought into this attitude of it all being harmful, if there is an addiction the likelihood is another underlying problem. It does seem to me though as with the arguments about sex robots and other things that some of those raging about these things are scared to lose what control they have over men with them getting or having alternatives to them.

[–]FuckYouNaziModRetard 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In my opinion something being harmful shouldn't be a trigger to instantly ban it. Restricting personal freedom should be the last possible choice, after multiple different ways were tried.

Especially for a country that praises itself over freedom.

[–]Ogg66 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't help but agree, the only things that you should not be allowed to do are things that seriously impact on others.

[–]Soups-Mcgee 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The argument against them is as laughable as the ‘real dolls’ themselves. I’ve never tried one, but I imagine it would get old after the novelty wore off. The dolls are exciting a man calling a woman a ‘dead fish’ in bed. They don’t move, for God’s sake. I can’t see this being a thing for a very long time. Plus, the doll can’t go get ice cream with you, after.

Instagram is worse than porn but nobody’s gonna touch it because women.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I went to a concert a few months ago, and no lie, there was a woman standing in front of me who was looking at instagram throughout the whole thing. It's not even like she was a teenager, either, she was in her mid-thirties. And in the last few months, I've seen two women fall over because they tried to board a train while engrossed in whatever was going on on their smartphone. I've even seen people, men and women, try to cross the road during a red light because they're too busy looking at their phones. I'm pretty sure that they weren't looking at porn on their phones, though.

I do agree porn is bad though, it warps our expectations of sex life, how much sex we have to attain, and what "good" bodies look like. It also paints unrealistic expectations, and can be very addictive and create a loop of self-hate among addicts.

[–]Wisemanner 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's done none of those things to me. Although< I will admit that the bodies are much better than the ones you come across in the street.

[–]NecroHexr -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It depends on the person. A weak minded, immature preteen is probably more susceptible than a wizened, older dude.

[–]ALTSuzzxingcoh 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's like when people get addicted to video games (because they are THAT good nowadays) or men that bulk at the gym because they idolize some ripped actor in a superhero movie. So what? If you're that easily influencable, you need to deal with it, because the modern world shouldn't cater to weak-willed victims that ruin it for the rest of us - and yes, with stuff like OP's, you ARE ruining our fun. Not reflecting reality and display an idealized, fake, romanticised version of it is the point of the majority of entertainment media. It's always been. Plus you don't need to watch the hollywood-budget fake-tits botox school girl skirt stuff.

[–]NecroHexr -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So, basically you're saying for us to stop helping disablwd or mentally ill folks.

ffs

[–]SpikeC51 -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're down voted but you're right. I don't agree with legally enforcing a ban on porn, but porn is causing erectile dysfunction at a younger age in more and more men. That sucks for us.

[–]Doing_It_In_The_Butt 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it's fatter and less put together women tbh. I know when I leave the UK on holiday to eastern Europe I suddenly do not seem to have any problems at all, drunk, sober, shy, confident.

What?!

[–]Free_kittens2468 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Porn is harmful, and is addicting in the same way gambling is. It is never good in excess, but it nowhere near as bad as cigarettes, and has no valid excuses to be banned. Unlike gambling it's free, and moderation is key.

[–]Free_kittens2468 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would also like to add on there is absolutely no evidence for the idea that porn makes people want to rape, or harass others.

If you're an actual man and use your brain instead of your dick you won't need proof. It's a pretty straight forward idea it's pretty fucking obvious why it's bad. Just like promiscuity is.

Well, it should be easy to explain then. Answer the question.

So do you subscribe to postmodernism or does whatever that is just 'come' naturally?

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I have no idea what the postmodern stance is and what it is that you think "comes naturally". If anything I'm a traditionalist.

They have a very different philosophy to men's rights. They want to bring about change in a dramatic total dissingagement approach.

Oh it wasn't hard to figure out, don't worry.

None of this is true, actually. Where did you get this from? I never criticized him for not providing evidence. Nice strawman though.

Addicts can have successful lives and say they're happy and have a nice family. Means nothing. We know addiction is bad.

the second is from the above post, obviously.

do you not see the contradiction in telling someone you don't need to give them proof of something and then when someone provides anecdotal evidence of something, you say they need better proof.

No I don't. I say that his anecdotal situation doesn't matter. He's probably lying regardless. It's also not like it ruins you as soon as you watch one video. You're missing the point and you're not even arguing the topic at hand while deflecting with ad hominem.

Have a good day.

He's probably lying regardless.

Since you seem to be all read-up on your latin logical fallacy names, perhaps you are also aware of the principle of charity? This is the idea that you should not attribute irrationality, logical fallacies, or falsehoods to someones statement when a logical, rational interpretation exists.

It would be conducive to profitable discussion for you to practice that principle here.

[+]EnochTowel -12 points-11 points-10 points 7 years ago* (18 children) | Copy Link

Damn this sub is misfiring on this one. Porn is pretty much an untramelled social evil. The fact that we as a society let our (often vulnerable amd impoversished) 18 yr old daughters get sucked into that hell is one of the Western worlds greatest failings. Take responsibility for the society you want to create. If you wouldn't want it for your own daughter don't accept it for anyone else's, that's how a society should be.

At some point "it's not hurting anyone!1 freedom bro!!111" is not a good enough excuse and you have to ask if we want a kinder, more moral and more productive society, and understand that "do whatever the fuck you want" is not conducive to that.

[–]mikesteane 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Porn is pretty much an untramelled social evil.

It reduces the incidence of sexual assault. It stimulates the economy, especially in hard times. And it pisses off born again Christians. Three great benefits right there for you, bro.

[–]Wisemanner 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also, it pisses off feminists. That alone, is a good enough reason.

[–]Wisemanner 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

B/S. If no one else is harmed, then people should be allowed to do "whatever they fucking want!". Because, what's next to be banned, just because someone or other doesn't like it?

Porn is great because it allows sexual gratification without some female's permission. (Which is why, along with sex dolls, feminist want to ban it. They have less power over men because of it)

[–]Wisemanner 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (13 children) | Copy Link

I disagree. I think we each have to take responsibility for the society we're apart of. We need to accept the fact that it's not okay to be a 35 year old watching porn in your mom's basement and it's not okay that such a predatory and degenerate industry exists.

[–]duhhhh 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it's not okay to be a 35 year old watching porn in your mom's basement

So we need to fix divorce laws then. Either the man gets access to sex with the ex, or he doesn't need to pay her so he can afford his own place. /s

[–]skellious 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

it's not okay to be a 35 year old watching porn in your mom's basement

why not? What is inherently wrong with that?

[+]EnochTowel -8 points-7 points-6 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Because we each have a responsibility to contribute to and better the society we live in. That is if we want our society to be as healthy and productive as it can be.

[–]skellious 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And what if I've got terrible depression and don't want to help society?

[–]EnochTowel -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then you can't fulfil your responsibility as member society (which is fine, some people cant) but that doesn't mean you have to drag everyone else down with you. The fact you're relying on society to support you and not contributing is even more of a reason for you to want to better our society and eliminate a social evil.

[–]skellious 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Be that as it may (and not forgetting that it is possible to contribute to society from your PC quite well these days) I don't feel you've satisfactorily justified pornography as a social evil.

[–]EnochTowel -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm just giving my opinion bro. The research out there on how porn rewires your brain and the effect I've seen it have on people is enough to convince me.

[–]Wisemanner 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Please let individuals decide what is okay.

[–]EnochTowel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not how you build a society. If you're part of a society, you have responsibilities, like it or not.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are plenty of financially successful people working jobs that don't benefit society, if not actively making things worse for everybody but themselves. Why pick on the harmless guy wanking to porn?

[–]duhhhh 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Thats why we should buy more porn. Porn lead to development/improvement of movable type printing press technology in the 1400s. Porn lead to the popularity and improvement of home film video cameras and then digital video (Beta, VHS, Laserdisk, DVD) players in homes. Porn has lead to improved picture and video compression and higher bandwidth internet backbones. My life is better because of porn.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm a 35 year old who watches porn in a shitty apartment. How is that any different? As for porn being a "predatory and degenerate" industry, there are people in that line of work would no doubt tell you to butt out, as they're earing a good living from adult movies that as saved them from the monotony a of 9 to 5 job. Are you really gonna tell grown adults that their occupation is morally wrong?

[–]imbecile -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem is not porn, the problem is economic inequality facilitated by capitalism. Because most wealth and resources are controlled by few people, there isn't enough for everyone else, and this forces most people into doing things for money they usually wouldn't do.

You know, things like destroying the environment, or screwing others out of money, neglecting your family, become henchmen and enforcers etc.

Doing porn or prostitution is actually one of the less objectionable things you can do in this context.

[–]SSFW3925 -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So women showing skin on the street (porn) are as harmful to men’s health as cigarettes? In other words what’s the difference between showing skin on the street or showing skin on the internet?

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Tbh porn has a lot of issues mostly with trafficking, drug abuse, and porn addiction absolutely melting peoples brains and turning them into cumbrains but in healthy amounts it's fine.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Trafficking? Either I'm watching the wrong porn, or these "actresses" are good at hiding their real accents. And how does drug abuse come into it? As for turning people into "cumbrains" could that not happen to a guy who sees prostitutes on the regular?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not so much in mainstream American porn but trafficking is definitely a thing. Drug use is rampant in the porn industry, Lexington Steele did a bit about it. Drug use is rampant in any high-profit industry like Hollywood.

Read any comments section on a porn site. Half the comments seem braindead.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Porn's great IMO and lotsa women make $$$ outta porn/prostitution. Sex is a commodity and I have no issue with women selling it for $$$.

While I'm against trafficking and stuff, I reckon having a wank is far healthier than people trying to legalise drugs and stuff. If we lived in a world where men could smoke bongs until they forget about their sexual urges but couldn't watch porn, it'd be serious fucked IMO (no pun there).
