I thought the entire point was rape is when you say no. But people assume men are strong enough to fight a woman off. However 1 we shouldn't have to. 2 that's not always the case which people then mock. And 3. If we did it'd leave signs of struggle on the female which they'd probably use to acids us of attacking them.

Often, I think, this attitude comes from people who assume that a real-life sexual encounter between a boy and a grown woman will somehow be exactly like the sexual fantasies they had when they were the age of the child in question.

All a person should need to do to overcome this bias, is to stop and think for even a second. Sexual fantasies are nothing like reality, otherwise we'd see a lot of women who have rape fantasies purposefully trying to get "raped". We don't.

When I meet someone with this attitude, I ask them to try a little thought experiment:

"Ok, for a moment, stop imagining a horny 12-year-old boy being seduced by his sexy teacher, in exactly the way he imagines he would like to be seduced. Instead, imagine an older woman whom he doesn't find attractive but who has power over him (teacher, child minder, babysitter, relative) manipulating him into having a sexual relationship. Then imagine that person tells the child she is pregnant and will tell his parents or teachers that he raped her - and that he will go to prison and have to pay child support - if he doesn't continue the relationship. This is (or should be) nonsense. If they were found out then she would be the one in trouble, not him. But he's too young to know that and he's terrified that his parents will be angry and disown him and then the police will come and he'll go to jail as a rapist. His abuser could even tell him some stories about what happens to rapists in prison, just to frighten him some more. Still sound like fun?"

I would disabuse them by pointing out their obvious sexism, by replacing "26 year old woman" with "26 year old man." If a gay 11 year old engaged in sex, "consensually," with a 26 year old man, these people would be quick to call that man a sick and perverted pedophile. Not once have I ever seen anyone condone the gay version of this phenomenon. Indeed, recent events like a police officer having sex with a 17 year old boy - who was on Grindr, actively looking for sex, agreed over text to a sexual encounter, lied about his age, and in other states would be considered legal - are vilified to the extreme. Actually, Milo would be the exception to this statement. And the (rightful) backlash he received is just another validation of my point. (I know this sub is generally Milo-friendly, but he's a disgusting human being, and a poor choice of ally. It's very simple. You exchange the sexual predator from woman to man, and the bias becomes obvious. It's obvious that it has nothing to do with the mindset or culpability of a young teen, but the apologist and sympathizer culture that favors women. Double win for likely showcasing their not-too-subtle homophobic attitudes, as well. Not surprising that an ideology that demonizes men and glorifies women, extends to men who romantically idolize other men.

They say that you must be gay if you didn't like it, as though it's an insult. What if you were/are gay? Would they then consider it sexual abuse? Or are gay teens molested by women simply being helped to turn straight, away from their morally reprehensible intrinsic attraction - that the woman isn't a molester, but a savior? Because gay teens can't be victims, already guilty of the crime of liking "the wrong sex," unless of course their abuser is a man? Those are the implications of their arguments. And it is absolutely disgusting. This is why I involve myself with men's rights as a gay man. The overlap between hatred and apathy towards men has a clear and inherent overlap with homophobia, and one often underwrites the other. I find their questioning of your sexual orientation as a scare tactic ultimatum, to force you into either admitting to being gay or accepting that you liked your abuse, positively abhorrent.

But the fact that, even at age 11, the "man up" culture is being applied is repugnant. That anyone would call a child a "weak-kneed pansy" for the simple fact of being a child is absurd, but for being an intimidated rape victim is even worse. Is it no wonder they would be scared, given this societal attitude of "if you admit to rape, you're a little bitch, or gay." Maybe that's why it often goes unreported, not because most "like it."

And even if they did like it, as the other commenter stated they assumed they would, is there no consideration for the context? That an 11 year old, despite wanting sex, isn't psychologically ready for a sexual relationship. Did that commenter not consider their own mental state as a child, and realize that while they may have enjoyed the sex itself, they would likely confuse sex with love and romance, and believe that they were deeply in love with the woman who abused them? And when that woman eventually left, because her victim aged out of her pedophillic attraction, would he not consider the psychological ramifications - the tendency for these victims to face severe depression and suicidal ideation? That's why children are legally unable to consent, despite being "willing" victims - they may want the sex, but aren't prepared for the psychological consequences. I mean they literally are incapable, their brains haven't fully developed yet. That doesn't even take into consideration the other consequences of sex, like reproduction. 11 year old children are just starting their sexual reproduction education at the end of that year. Which, by the way, their parent has to consent to. These people are really arguing that a child that needs his mother to sign off for him to learn about the scientific anatomy of a woman, is capable of consenting, on his own, to having an up close, interactive encounter with that anatomy? That they need their father to sign off to learn about the act of reproduction, but can actually perform that act of their own accord? That a child who is about to learn about condoms and sexual protection and birth control is capable of making those sexual decisions before they've even learned them?!?

Everything about this makes me extremely angry.

One needs to draw a distinction between statutory rape and rape of a minor.

Statutory rape is only rape under law. That's why it's called "statutory". The minor consents, but we legally treat it as rape, because we have decided, as a society, by majority opinion, that we think that they will be psychologically harmed by this thing even if they consented to it, and therefore we wish to deter adults from it.

Literal rape is a different beast. It's just plain rape, whether the victim is 5 or 15 or 50.

So, I will accept, indeed I will argue, that many teenage boys do consent, and do want it. So do many teenage girls.

But we ain't talking about that. We are talking about people being forced or coerced into sex, and even people who like sex very much aren't very likely to go for that.

So we can debate what the penalty for statutory rape ought to be, and whether we ought always to ignore the consent of a minor. (I protected, and to this day protect, the identity of a woman who touched me at quite a young age. I was into it then, and I do not retract that decision to this day.)

But anyone who says that young boys ought to consent to sex whether they want to or not... is clearly not worth taking seriously.

I had to face this sort of discrimination for a very long time, even by a trauma therapist who I eventually had to stop seeing because she couldn't believe that men could be assaulted sexually.

It's truly sad how little male abuse victims come out and tell people about their abuse, because telling about it to people who understand is liberating.

I hope one day that double standards like these die.

I'm in this category, i was 14 hooking up with a 26 year old. I thought i was going to have to get a job to provide for her, i didnt realize she was crazy, ofc she is, shes hooking up with a minor. It warped me and it changed how i developed. Minors are minors for a reason. It changed how i feel about sex and love and it was very traumatic. I didn't know the impact of it till years later. I can completely relate with guys being messed up after, they may be hot but theyre crazy and most minors dont know that because they lack life experience and comparable points of reference and comparison. It makes me mad when people downplay abuse just because its happening to a man.

I am truly surprised to see comments here saying this is in part feminism's fault.

I know it is often reddit's boogeyman but most "Mainstream" feminists are absolutely against rape of boys. I find it highly unlikely that a person that fights to end the idea that your sex makes you weak, and that homosexual is a synonym of pathetic that that would support this comment.

Feminists want to end the idea that boys should be strong and provide and that girls are weak and pretty. With that in mind it wouldn't shame men for beeing abused!
