Daughter and daddy relationships are always special, but that comes later. Just be the best possible dad you can be, make great memories, make your own traditions, go shopping with them and don't always say yes bc they melt your hard away.

You are their first love, show them what a good man is and talk about your feelings (not your feelings about your ex).

That's completely normal at her age brother. Just make sure you make her life as magical as possible when you are with her and you'll be fine. Also, be the one who teaches her the milestones in life like riding a bike, swimming, reading, and at her age even potty training. I taught my daughter to use the potty in one day by following her around and annoying her every five minutes with, "Do you have to go potty? Do you have to go potty? C'mon let's go potty!!" After a few hours of that and she said, "Okay! I got it!" And that was that. Never had to change a diaper again. I love those memories.

Be a good Dad when you have her. She needs that in her life. When very young most kids prefer Mom. But over time you'll be the one who pushes her, shows her discipline, sets the bar for the guys she considers. If you stay close enough, she'll rely on you to help weed out the jokers from good men. Dads have a significant and far undervalued role in their kids lives. Look at the stats, having an active Dad is a hide benefit in terms of her likelihood to all sorts of negative things like teen pregnancy, drugs, and more.

You do not control your ex. You have some control over your daughter.

You have 100% control over yourself and the life you build with your daughter.

Fight in court for more, or even equal, time with your child.

Then...build memories!

Find things and activities that are exclusively " Daddy - daughter events."

As she gets older, learn her interests and indulge them. Also include her in your interests, but only of she shares them. I was lucky enough to have a daughter who loved football and even played on a woman's team.

I took lots of pics as my kids grew. We have loads of memories that are exclusively "Dad Memories."

Do this for your little girl and you will have a place in her heart all your own

At that age it’s natural she’ll be close with Mom. Make your time with her great, that doesn’t mean extravagance, but quality time. Whatever are her interests make them your interests. Never put down her interests, if she likes Peppa Pig you like Peppa Pig and you sit and watch with her. Do this and the relationship will expand.

My daughter enjoys being with me for days and days but my son misses his mom the very first night.. kids are kids and they are all different... Just be a fun loving dad and I think as she grows older she will be more into hanging with you... I build the blanket fort things with her.. bought a kit to make a house type frame.... We walk to restaurants just to get fries or something... She is 5... I think at 2.5 like yours she needed her mom more... Give it time... Don't get discouraged... French fries... Blanket forts... Girly stuff... A present now and then... All good..

Dad to two daughters here, 8 and 10. Echoing other comments, the relationship does change over time and who they prefer today is not who they will prefer tomorrow necessarily. Trust that your little girl needs you to be a strong, steady, active presence in her life, even if she may not always show it. I admit that sometimes I share your fears but then their little hugs and laughs and yelling “Daddy!” make the bad feelings melt away.

Just be her dad. Children have different needs of their mother than they do for their father.

My daughters are adults now, and their mother and I first got separated when they were preteens and teens. So they’ve had about half their life with their parents together and half with them apart.

When my daughters need someone to talk about a health problem or relationship advice, they go to their mom, even though they have a strained relationship at times. When they need financial or general life advice, they come to me. Sometimes they go to their mother with a problem they are having and I find out about it because she will come to me to see if I have a solution. That used to bother and confuse me. But honestly now I’m just glad they have some kind of relationship with us both.

Just be the best dad you know how and be prepared to forgive yourself for your many many failures to come. It’s a journey man.

It's hard my daughter has always been DADDYS girl it drove my ex nuts, she'd constantly blame me like I can alienate a 2 year old it's because I was a stay at home dad until she was 18 months old, now this summer she's with mom more because she doesn't work in the summer, so now lately I'll get a few I want mommy when she's upset it's hard really fucking hard but usually she knows what she's doing because she'll cry she wants mommy then I'll give in and she'll smile and say I'm your princess, she's only 2.5 she's gonna be a handful when she's older.

This changes over time. At that age my daughter wanted mom. A few years later she wanted dad. She went back and forth over the years, but I was always there for her regardless. Today she is a grown woman and we have a great relationship. Hang in there and continue to be a good father. It will all work out.

Make the most out of the time you do get with her. As long as you are present and doing the best you can for her, she will grow up loving and cherishing your relationship more and more.

This stuff ebbs and flows and with her being as young as she is I think it's natural for her to have a preference for mom. Do the best you can to make the most of the time you have with her, plan fun activities and be PRESENT and active with things she likes to do. Work to get to 50% if that's what you aspire to, kids always benefit from both parents being attentive and active in their lives, she will grow to enjoy her time with you more in time. Just know it's a different kind of love they receive from each parent and it's not a competition of who they like better, though it can absolutely be hurtful to hear they're missing the other when they're with you. Be understanding and supportive of what they're feeling and she will appreciate and confide in you more in time as that trust develops.
