Wife has asked for separation. She asked if I’d be open to it, with what I think would be the hope that we find reconnection. It was her therapists idea. I told her I’m not for it, but I cannot stop her from making that choice. She said her therapist recommended a 6-9 month separation. We have two kids 5 and 2.

I have lots of issues with this. One, we’ve had issues but worked on them and I had made strides in working on what she wanted. I by no means have been perfect, but steps were taken. No infidelity, drug/alcohol issues, physical/mental/emotional abuse or anything like that. My biggest issue is let’s say this time apart works for her and she decides to reconcile. How do I ever welcome that decision after the wound she’s left on me and the damage this will likely cause my children (my oldest is who I’m most worried about; he’s old enough to notice his parents are together and he’s by far the most sensitive).

I honestly don’t know if she goes through with it if I could forgive her or ever trust her again.

My whole family has passed away except my brother, so my wife and kids are quite literally my whole world. I don’t know how to go forward. I don’t know if I can forgive her for doing something that will knowingly hurt our children like this.
