My STBXW will be filing for divorce. I'm not sure when though- she doesn't know either. She is studying for a health certification that is taking a significant amount of her time. I have already spoken to a lawyer -- last fall. Had a free consultation. I liked him.
The question is when do I lock him in with the retainer fee? The issue is if I put it on my credit card (3k) i'm going to have to start making the monthly payments immediately. So, the longer I could hold off the better for that reason as it could be a few months before she files.

I would love to sync up with him just to update but is there any reason for that until I'm served with the divorce papers?
Do law firms allow you to make a 1 time appointment? That could be an option. But I have doubts that will be acceptable.

What do you think? Should I wait until I'm served?
