My wife wants to file for divorce. We've just grown apart and I'm coming to terms with it. I know I'll be fine. We're both being civil towards each other and still living together with our kids. As far as splitting everything we're going to split the 401k down the middle. The issue is our house. We have approximately $300k equity in it. I don't want to sell it and neither does she. I want my kids to live with her in it. They deserve that. Problem is she can either give me that amount in the 401k or we can create an agreement that she stays in the house and after our youngest graduates the house gets sold and we then distribute the equity. I'm ok with that, I just wasn't sure if anyone had done something similar. It seems like the only way to make it all happen without it getting ugly. She doesn't want to deplete the 401k on her side and I agree it's not fair to her. Any guidance would be appreciated.
