This week, I'm scheduling 2 hours to have a serious discussion with my current wife about her decision to divorce & destroy our family (we have 2 small kids & she had multiple affairs). I'm in businessman mode & will be removing emotion from this discussion, as hard as that will be - it's necessary. She has totally checked out & is not interested in being a mother, but will likely get 50% custody anyways.

Here's the question: am I asking the right questions (see below) & what bases still need to be covered?

  1. Have my old-school lawyer call her lawyer to see if she has filed for divorce yet or if she truly plans to continue with mediation as scheduled.

  2. Put together a 'Proposal Agreement' as a blueprint for our separation agreement including: finances, custody & online co-parenting classes.

  3. Build a 'Statement of Common Purpose' (mission statement) containing questions like: "What do we want our kids' divorce story to be?" & "How do we want to treat one another and speak to one another?" & "We would like to achieve the following goals:"

  4. Register for Catholic Health's online co-parenting classes.

  5. Give her a copy of Mom's house, Dad's house.

  6. Discuss a shared calendar account (new Google calendar) that we both keep on our phones for custody purposes.

  7. Burn our wedding vows with a roofing torch. Just kidding about that one :)

Once again, thank you gentlemen. I'm doing better than I was a few weeks ago, but this is still the hardest thing I've ever had to do & part of me still loves her - or maybe just the dream of what we had.
