This is a type of thinking I've noticed in myself and some other people here. Basically for the longest time I've been seeking the 'truth' on how relationships and attraction works. However whenever I'm confronted with the answers they make me feel worse about myself and make me feel like shutting down

I feel this happens whenever I find certain 'truths'. I can't handle them so in response I go into denial and delusion. These help me feel better about myself and feel reassuring, whereas the 'truth' seems scary and makes me feel worse

Because of this I've had to ask what does knowing the truth actually add to my life? What value does it have? And the answer is usually that it makes me feel worse, it reminds me I have no control and makes me feel like giving up, which isn't a good thing, it takes away from my life. Embracing the delusions gives me a sense of control and makes me feel more at ease than the truth does, it adds and alleviates my life. People normally assume that knowledge and obtaining it is a good thing, but is it good if that knowledge hurts?

I read a comment recently about 'seeking your own truth' and I found that very interesting because it blurs the lines of 'truth'. It devalues it in a way by not making it so black-and-white

And from what I've seen most people have delusions or choose to ignore or reject certain parts of reality. It's a surprisingly common practice. I must have seen thousands of people spouting contradicting truths, which ones are right? We each make of reality what we want
