I think men like this were primed into “good old days” thinking because of their egos.

“Surely I can’t be the problem, the modern woman is to blame.”

The “history” that they think they know is more often than not, about as deep and accurate as a collection of tropes from fictional media. Or writings by creepy and verbose white supremacists. Or war power fantasy. Maybe they know what a specific WWII tank is called but they don’t know how that war affected civilians or why fascism absolutely should be opposed. Maybe they think “back in the day” they’d be some noble who’d get invited to fancy parties because more people were racist then. Stuff like that.

This mythological “history” becomes escapism for them. A hope that the progressives are wrong because throughout all of human history before now, everyone was an unlikable chud, just like them. That’s the natural state of things. /s

In conclusion, I think these people were bigoted and socially inept first, idealized the past, where women were submissive virgins or whatever and conglomerated online. Being insufferable and weird together on weird pretentious facebook pages with names like “Politically Incorrect Gentlemen’s Club”. A hop and a skip away from just being comfortable with the bigotry out in the open.

History and politics are some of the most popular interests with all men and women. Socially awkward men aren’t more into these things, you just notice it more because they are socially awkwardZ

I think they are just as far intersted in that as it suits their already established beliefs. Usually, not a lot of depth, I think.

I know plenty of people through going into higher education that like history and politics and are not extremists.

I do not know many redpilled guys. I have contact with some that have that tendency, but usually I think I help them touch grass and take what they say with humour.

history focuses on men (on purpose), glamorizes the past...to be fair I think there must have been less loneliness in the past because it was and easier for 'men' to find purpose because...well, eating and having a house was way less assured than it is today? Less existentialism over all, I would say.

I think in general they really do start to believe that they would have been leaders back in the “good old days” because their lives are not quite what they thought they would be. The truth is more bleak, most would be peasants, workers, mines, or early death in war.

I have no data to back this up, so it's just the vibe I get. In my experience it seems that the 'history' and 'politics' they love and dig into is written by men for men. It's often nationalistic, romanticize and glorify war, empire, power, violent subjugation. After all, history is written by the "winners" - and a lot of history has been written down in a society where men's perspective was the "objective" perspective.

There is lots of queer history, lot of minority history, lot of women's history that these guys usually aren't interested in, and might even deny exists.

Fascists and nationalists actively use cherry picked history in their propaganda. Calling back to "powerful, glorious" ancestors, making the nation great again, is very common. So if history buffs only engage with state sanctioned history, the step into fascist propaganda is quite small.

Additionally with politics. The socially awkward, hostile men who're into 'politics' seem to often be into 'politics' as a way to gain power and control. They view 'politics' as a battlefield, and their rhetorical skills as a weapon. Additionally, they have grown up in a patriarchal society, so the politics they absorb is often politics that not only reproduce the patriarchal status quo, but sometimes push for a reenforcement of the patriarchal structures that they themselves profit from (without the necessarily being conscious of that being the case, because they believe their view point is objective and unbiased, and everyone else are subjective, self-serving and unable to objectively asses the situation).

So, history, politics and men who favor male privilige is connected.

I'm socially awkward and interested in the social sciences. It's a way to understand the world, which might not otherwise make sense to me. I'm also not right wing or rp. I'm self-identified left wing, pretty liberal, and dorky.

I think men in general like history and/ or politics. And sports. I don't think it's necessarily just socially awkward dudes.
