Men who go for much younger women are emotionally stunted, so you won’t be getting the supposedly more mature behavior anyway. The more mature older men simply won’t go for a much younger woman, at least definitely not for a serious relationship. A HVM won’t use his sex as an excuse to be immature.

I’d say approx within 5 years of age is the best bet, given you’re over 30. For younger women, within 2 years seems best. Statistically these are the happiest, most lasting marriages too. Big age differences actually aren’t that common and aren’t typically successful.

As someone who vehemently was against dating younger men (it took a lot of women and decades to convince me to give them a chance—in fact, I was so militant that I even didn’t like the idea of dating a guy who was a year younger than me), as someone in her mid 30s, no I am not attracted to older men. They look old enough to be my father and so many of them lie about their age pretending that they are younger than me when it’s obvious they look so fucking old.

For the sake of logistics, I prefer a man my age or older but I’m definitely not holding my breath. A lot of them are pathetic, misogynistic, are man children, and are obviously not wanted by the women their age for a good reason. Interestingly with the men in their 20s who I have met, several of them were more empathetic towards women, are open to veganism (I’m not vegan but I used to be and animal rights is still important to me), and are not as homophobic.

I also began meeting these guys not having any clue that they were younger than me. I look very young for my age so it’s not like I’m thirsty and specifically looking—they flock to me. And I still am not on the lookout for them.

There's some research that women are actually happier with younger guys and more miserable with older ones. I think society really underestimates it's role in shaping human behavior and norms. It's like it molds human beings very carefully, during our most plastic and impressionable years, in it's image and then calls it human nature. Patriarchy is a fucking master of illusion. It makes the unnatural seem natural. It can make people appear to be whatever it wants. Basically, whatever men want can appear to be human nature. And men REALLY want younger women to like them. So even when something isn't true, people will stay quiet about it because it has the impression of being a social norm. And nobody wants to be the first to break out of that. In this case, most women are not actually into older men like fucking Clooney. But we just stay silent about it. And then there are the "everyone is beautiful!" kind of women who will just say dad bods and receeding hairlines are sexy to not hurt their feelings. But men take that as meaning they're still fuckable so the myth gets to stay alive longer.

George Clooney is not an attractive older man anymore. There was a time where you could say yeah he's got a nice face, but that stopped being true decades ago. People just keep regurgitating it because they heard others say it.

And I can think a man has a nice face but not have him be my type. Which, older men are not. Oldest I'll go is 8 years. After that it just gets creepy.

I’m for age appropriate dating. It’s always the best bet for a healthy relationship dynamic.

That said, there are some older men I’m attracted to. There’s a huge ‘but’ though. The only older men I’m attracted to are (seemingly) HVM like Obama or Stephen Colbert. It has nothing to do with their looks and everything with their vibe.

The same reason why I’m not attracted to a (seemingly) LVM like Dominic Sherwood who I think is objectively hot, but gives off an extreme fuckboi vibe. I might be wrong about him, this is purely my gut feeling, but it’s still how I feel.

Edit: just read the article and they only come up with arguments that have nothing to do with age and everything with character. My boyfriend in university treated me 100 times better than my 18 year older ‘rich and stable’ boyfriend I had later in my twenties.

Curious about the age range for a 57yo such as myself. I prefer men my age or older. Have an interested 48yo HVM man that has professed extreme interest in me, but the age gap kinda bothers me. At my/our age, the difference is technically not that big a deal, I don't believe...perhaps even moreso considering he exhibits many HVM traits. But yet the age diff just seems kinda too much and wrong for me (completely irrespective of him personally). You can tell I'm not a cougar, zero interest in the young-uns...but I'm wondering if perhaps I should reconsider entertaining dating men down to say 47? (in addition to the same age or older that I prefer). Thoughts?
