you're so right. you have to get really get into the history of specific kingdoms to find the women who led. a lot of times, women governed through their husbands who were the 'official rulers'

Is it easy to read? When I read cheesy and romantic stuff I just want to have it trickle gently and easily into my brain. But I'm worried this book might be written in an "old" way, that makes it harder to read, given that english is not my native language.

Everyone knows Vivaldi but most don't know the troupe of women (mostly abandoned as babies to orphanages) whose virtuosity with musical instruments let him do his composition.
Oh, and they helped run the orphanages they grew up in at the same time.
Even when they were famous for pushing the boundaries of music during their day, some men took offence with them playing instruments that were thought to be unfeminine - there's always going to be some scrote unhappy with you!

You know what argument I keep hearing from uneducated boys when women bring up women's achievements or joke about men being useless and we can live without them? They say, "Your phone is created by a man. Your computer is created by a man. Wifi is created by a man." So on and so forth. I'm a pretty nerd! 😂 Seriously though, dang, that's sad you went through that! I'm part geek so I'm not fully immersed in the culture. My sister is a bit more than I am, but maybe not on enough of a level to have experienced this. I thought that would have been a friendlier place! I also found out recently that nerdcons are huge places for polyamory or where it's discussed a lot or something? That was bizarre to find out!
Hope you find an awesome tribe of fellows nerds who aren't mean girls! Ps--not into Final Fantasy, although from everything I've seen via my sister it looks REALLY cool!, but I do love Star Wars and rocks! 🤩🥰🌞

Honestly, I don't really care about star wars, but all the nerdrage made me watch the new "trilogy" and apart from making very little sense to someone who doesn't know every little detail, and having some shitty pacing, it was a pretty okay-ish typical big-budget explosiony sci-fi movie.

the new movies are great. diverse cast and very kid-friendly which i like. it's a cool universe bc there's no rape or sexual assault as a plot line. the only problematic stuff is from the early movies - too few women characters, slave leia (disturbing) and Leia kissing her brother (even though they didn't know they were siblings at the time).
otherwise, there's no sexual assault/rape, no coercion, no blood, no toxic masculinity, no racist stereotypes. i also appreciate how they have women and poc rulers. i avoided star wars forever bc i hate star wars fans, but once i watched it i couldn't believe it was such a chill series. Mandalorian is even better.

Oh my goodness, what's wrong with Star Wars fans? 😬 I love those first movies! Princess Leia was such a badass! I love that there wasn't gross behavior or sexual assault in that.
The worship of the slave outfit is totally disturbing though. The whole purpose of that was to humiliate her & show how much of an ass Jabba the Hut was, as also evidenced by the slave girl at the beginning of that movie. The second she resisted him he dumped her to her death. My sis and I were little girls when that came out and even then we knew that was wrong, but when you're little it's confusing. I think Princess Leia not being sexualized at any other time, because she refused to be, made up for that. She was feisty and strong and still feminine, but classy & spunky. I don't know, I'm glad we had that character when we were girls. It helped a lot with some of the other crap we were bombarded with. 👑

YES! And she had no problem snapping back at and sticking it to whoever she needed to! 👏👏👏 The first Star Wars movie ever came out when I was 3 years old and it was the first movie I saw in a theater. I don't know if I was three or four when I saw it because movies were in the theater a lot longer than that but I wanted to be Princess Leia so bad when I grew up! 🤩🥰💥 She is one of the best role models ever, and I love the consistency with her amazing character through her whole story arc just like you said! 🥰🤗🙌👸

Um that’s interesting because like, it’s dripping with toxic masculinity and various other things like genocide and murder.
It just doesn’t actively condone these, in fact it’s pretty much the story of why these are bad.
Anakin is literally a failure of the class structure, interplanetary war, and Jedi militarized system. Now we know where dictators can come from.
Kylo Ren is so unbelievably many flavors of toxic masculinity writ a bit more subtly, yet healthier than either his father or grandfather in that arena (still very, very unhealthy).
Poe is a deconstruction of the cocky attractive pilot who just does whatever he wants and it gets accolades and saves the day.
These are rare, especially in anything labeled fantasy/scifi.

If anyone wants to read a memoir about a protein biochemist, read I Died for Beauty: Dorothy Wrinch and the Cultures of Science.
She was predicting biological structures, and Linus Pauling was a big scrote at the time. He was so greedy to solve protein secondary structures and later the DNA helix that he purposefully trashed Dorothy Wrinch’s competing work. Her contributions to fundamental principles in biochemistry are underappreciated to this day.
