I feel like you will respond no matter what we say here. If you respond you are disrespectful to yourself. That’s nice he apologized. But apology without things changing means nothing. The only person who can give you closure is yourself. Just because he texts these things, which is lazy btw...doesn’t mean jack shit. Delete the message, block him and enjoy your new life.

If he was a good boyfriend you wouldn’t have broken up with him, and he wouldn’t need to apologize to you and beg you for forgiveness. He’s the exact same guy, the difference is he misses you now so he’s being all apologetic. Get back with him and you will probably have the exact same relationship and same behavior patterns repeat themselves. Unless he’s changed as a person. But 4 months is not enough to change as a person. More like 5 years.

Don't answer. Don't tell him all the things you hated that he did, he'll break them down, deny most of them, minimize the ones he can't deny, and ignore the rest so you forget about everything and forgive him. Why after all these months? I'll tell you why, he exhausted all his "possibilities" and since he didn't have any more luck with other girls he came back to you because he thinks you're easy to access.

If you mean getting some sort of emotional care package from an apology and going over the shit again that makes the hurt and anger that you felt at the time disappear and then you become some sort of friends and he gets to be a nice guy instead of an asshole ex- why?

I wouldn’t consider it cheating, but I absolutely would NOT reply. If you reply, your ex wins. He gets to sink into his validation that you still care. Even if you wrote a nasty message, it means you still care. The opposite of love is apathy. That’s all he deserves - your unspoken reply of apathy. Enjoy your new relationship and focus on that. It’s your future! The ex is your past :)

I don’t ever respond to an ex when I’m in a relationship or even just the talking phase with someone else lol. My first ex always tries to get in touch with me and sometimes I respond (because of boredom, but it’s the wrong thing to do) and a lot of the times I just ignore. However, when I am in a relationship with someone else, messages from my ex are COMPLETELY IGNORED and I tell my current that my ex is texting me. You should have no desire to respond to texts from your ex while you’re in a relationship with someone else.

Most feel differently, but my experience over the last few years, has led me to believe that closure is total bullshit. There was something super freeing in this attitude for me and I'd whole heartedly recommend it. Do not spend a single other minute of your one precious life on that guy.
